NEW COVID TESTING KIOSK: We reported last night on a Curative testing kiosk appearing at Don Armeni Boat Ramp (1222 Harbor SW) – do-it-yourself (but with someone there to give directions) mouth-swab tests. We’re told this morning that it opens today.

SOUND TRANSIT REALIGNMENT WORKSHOP: 1-4 pm, the board digs further into the realignment process – which is supposed to lead to a decision in July on how to “realign” the ST3 projects for which construction hasn’t begun yet, including the West Seattle light-rail extension. Tubby would be one of last year’s ‘pups,’ born in the summer so would be approximately 6 or 7 months old. ROAD CLOSURE: Sylvan Way is scheduled for closure 7:30 am-5 pm today and tomorrow while Seattle Public Utilities works on a drainage project. Metro Route 128 will be rerouted (info here). If you’re driving, the next direct route between 35th and Delridge is SW Holden.

JUNCTION PAID PARKING: This is the second day you’ll have to pay in what had been the four free West Seattle Junction lots (just south of SW Oregon off 44th and 42nd, on the southeast corner of 42nd and Alaska, and off 44th just north of Edmunds). You can use the new machines or pay by phone.

LOW BRIDGE TICKETING: This is the first weekend since the enforcement cameras were turned on for the Low Bridge, with $75 tickets for unauthorized low-bridge users between 5 am and 9 pm, 7 days a week – revisit the rules here.

After all these years asking questions for a living, we tend to be skeptical. So when a VISA card arrived in the postal mail today, from a non-government sender but claiming to be our federal “economic impact payment,” we had to do some research before we believed it. But yes, we learned via finding this news release, it’s for real.

We’re sharing this just in case we’re not the only ones who missed the news that the $600 “checks” might actually arrive as cards. If you get one, be sure you read the fine print that accompanies it – you’ll be charged, for example, if you withdraw the payment as cash in multiple installments (first withdrawal, the fee is waived).

YOUTH WRITING COMPETITION BEGINS: Today’s the first day the Southwest Seattle Historical Society will accept entries in its youth writing competition on “Women History Makers of the Duwamish Peninsula.” Background info is here; winners’ essays will be published here on WSB, in addition to other prizes/honors.

CITY COUNCIL RETURNS: Meetings resume today after the holiday break. The 9:30 am agenda is here, 2 pm agenda is here (including info on how to participate in that meeting’s public-comment period). Both will be streamed live via Seattle Channel (cable 21).

SCHOOL MEALS: 11:15 am-1:15 pm, Seattle Public Schools meal sites resume full operation post-winter break.
