LAPS WITH LOU: Starting just after 9 am on the field at Pathfinder K-8, retired PE teacher Lou Cutler is set to start his annual birthday run, one lap for every year of the age he’s about to turn – 68 this time. He is a longtime Make-A-Wish volunteer and his run is a fundraiser in which you can participate by donating here. You’re also welcome to show up and run, walk, or cheer! (1901 SW Genesee)

STAMP OUT HUNGER: Letter carriers’ annual door-to-door food drive is today. Put out a bag of nonperishable food by your mailbox (or wherever your mail is delivered) before you get going for the day.

CRANE REMOVAL: As previewed here a week ago, the tower crane at the Luna/PCC project is scheduled to be removed today, and that means an all-day street closure (as early as 4:30 am and as late as 8 pm) on California SW between SW Stevens and SW Lander.

Seattle art historian and curator Barbara Johns will present her book, The Hope of Another Spring, Takuichi Fujii, about the Japanese artist who lived in Seattle and was later incarcerated during World War II, first in the Puyallup state fairgrounds and then in a permanent camp in Minidoka, Idaho. During that time, Fujii documented his daily experiences in words and art. Johns has brought his works back into public view with the help of Fujii’s family members. Sandy Kita, the artist’s grandson, provides translations and an introduction to the diary.
