Another reopening ahead in The Junction: The Alley, small bites and cocktails at 4509 California SW behind Be’s Restaurant, is reopening next Thursday (October 1st). Limited capacity, and masks required, 4 pm-10 pm weeknights, 3 pm-10 pm Saturdays and Sundays. The Alley will take reservations via email at info@thealleyws.com, but says walk-ins are OK too as space allows.
Two notes from the West Seattle food and beverage world:
COFFEE: C & P Coffee Company (5612 California SW; WSB sponsor) has just expanded its hours again – 7 am to 5 pm. Continue ordering via the back window; outdoor seating on both sides of the shop remains open.
SUSHI: Many have been asking when – if – Azuma Sushi in The Junction (4533 California SW) will reopen.
We haven’t had luck in reaching its longtime proprietors but Cathy did and sent us this report last night:
I just spoke with Jennifer – she and her husband Harry are the owners of Azuma Sushi. She says they both are doing well and Harry has had some well-deserved time off. They’ve been open for 20 years and he’s pretty much worked non-stop at the restaurant!
They are looking to re-open soon, probably only doing takeout while we are still in Phase 2. No set date on re-opening yet, but they are working on it.
She asked if I could contact the WSB and pass the word on so that their customers know that they are doing well and that they are looking forward to seeing everyone again soon!
Harry worked seven days a week until 2016!
Though it might not be the best of weather for outdoor enjoyment tonight, the sunshine will return to full strength – Saturday afternoon, says the forecast. Here’s a new outdoor option for the rest of the summer: Best of Hands Brewery & Barrelhouse (7500 35th SW; WSB sponsor) emailed with the photo you see above and the news that “we are now featuring a weekend pop-up beer garden at the brewery from Friday @ 5 PM – close on Sunday for as long as the weather holds. It is still 21+ throughout our premises.” They’re still hosting food trucks, too – find the calendar by scrolling down their homepage.
Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and lots of hard work, 2 Fingers Social in South Delridge has a brand-new covered patio.
Not only is it shelter from the blazing late-in-the-day sun, but 2 Fingers (9211 Delridge Way SW) also notes it’ll allow them to stay healthier outside during the fall and winter.
We’ve heardd from two more reopened West Seattle food/beverage businesses:
PHO AROMA: Today is the first day back in business for the Vietnamese restaurant at 5605 Delridge Way SW. They’re open noon 7 pm Mondays through Saturdays, closed Sundays.
EMERALD KITTY CAFE: Open for pick-up coffee at 3422 Harbor SW, Tuesdays-Saturdays 7:30 am-2 pm (closed from 11-11:30 for lunch break), closed Sundays and Mondays. And they remind us that “100% of proceeds go back to the pet rescue” (Emerald City).
Multiple readers emailed today to ask why the recently remodeled Admiral Starbucks store had abruptly closed without explanation. We inquired with the corporate media team, and here’s the response from a spokesperson:
(W)we recently learned one of our partners at the store received a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 and is self-isolating at home for a period of time. Further to that, as soon as we learned of the diagnosis (on the same day), we quickly activated our protocols and closed the store to initiate a deep cleaning following all recommended guidelines from public health authorities.
It’s important for me to add that Starbucks takes seriously our responsibility to keep our partners and customers safe, and all partners who were deemed to have worked in close contact with this partner will be paid for the time they will miss during the recommended 14 days of self-isolation (from date of exposure). As far as re-opening, I don’t have an exact date but the store will resume operations next week.
Shop/drink/dine local for Father’s Day! We’ve been asked about local food/beverage opportunities for the big day this Sunday (June 21st). So far, we have three from the WSB inbox:

REBELLYOUS NUGGETS AVAILABLE IN WEST SEATTLE: We noted last month that the “plant-based ‘chicken’ nuggets” startup in The Triangle was starting to sell retail, but at the time, no West Seattle outlet. That’s just changed – Rebellyous tells WSB that Wildwood Market in Fauntleroy (9214 45th Ave SW) is now carrying their nuggets.
Thanks to Andy for the photo. The latest standalone Starbucks store to reopen in the area is the Admiral shop (41st SW/Admiral Way), which has been remodeled during its closure. “We are remodeled and brand new!! We are excited to have customers come back and see the new store!!” says Sarah. … Other food/beverage changes: You can now get food from Easy Street Café 7 am-3 pm, 7 days a week … Falafel Salam has updated hours too … all those changes are on our ongoing West Seattle food/beverage list (thanks again to everyone who keeps sending word of updates, westseattleblog@gmail.com or text 206-293-6302).

MATADOR REOPENING … for takeout and delivery, starting this Wednesday (May 27th). Hours will be Sunday – Thursday 4 pm – 10 pm, Friday 4 pm – 11 pm, Saturday 2 pm – 11 pm. Another West Seattle food-and-beverage business has launched in defiance of the coronavirus crunch.
Philip Sudore has opened The Spot West Seattle at 2920 SW Avalon Way, where Shack Coffeehouse closed six months ago.
You might know him already for his music, with the band Mercy Parker. Eventually, he hopes you’ll know him for a restaurant with a full bar, once COVID-19 is past – a tapas-style menu with craft cocktails and craft beer. But for now, “We have an amazing, dynamic, and fun waffle menu, plus great coffee and espresso.” (Scroll down this page to see that menu.)
The coffee is from K&F Roasters out of Portland – the award-winning Café Jondo, an organic fair-trade blend of African and South American coffees.
Current hours at The Spot are 6:30 am-4 pm weekdays, 7 am-4 pm Saturdays, 8 am-4 pm Sundays. (Post-pandemic, they’ll have evening hours too.)
More updates to our ongoing list of West Seattle restaurants and beverage businesses open for your food/drink pickup and/or delivery needs: Two more coffee shops. This past Monday, C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) reopened, and today we heard from two more coffee shops – Olympia Coffee (3840 California SW) also reopened on Monday, we learned today, 7 am-5 pm daily. And we got word that Uptown Espresso in The Junction (California/Edmunds) plans to reopen next Monday (May 11th), with hours 8 am-3 pm.
Also, if your favorite restaurant has a full liquor license, you might soon be able to get a takeout pre-mixed cocktail with your food, if they choose to take advantage of this newly announced state rule change.

After temporarily closing for a month, C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) proprietors Cameron and Pete Moores have announced they’re reopening:
We are very excited to announce that we are opening our doors – well, windows – on Monday, May 4th. Our new hours of operation will be 8 am to 4pm.
We will be offering delicious espresso drinks and whole bean coffee from Lighthouse Roasters as well as to-go Beer and Wine selections (21 and older).
To reinforce social distancing, we are operating through the back window of the coffee shop, for take-away only. There is easy access in the alley between Juneau and Findlay streets.
While we were closed, we took some extra measures, and a lot of elbow grease, to improve our methods of operation to keep us all healthy and to ensure the safety of our friends and our employees.
We can’t wait to see all of our neighbors and friends over the coming weeks as we reconnect with our amazing community.

We’ve been keeping a list of local restaurants and beverage businesses since the day after the governor’s March 15th order closed them all to dine-in/drink-in customers, and we’ve continued to update the list as we get word from the businesses and/or customers. The 140+ businesses on the list are mostly West Seattle, with a few in White Center and South Park (you might be going that way for the alternate bridge!). Two additions today – Ma’ono is reopening for takeout/delivery, and Uncle Eddie’s (in South Park, owned by West Seattleites) has just reopened too. In the wake of Coronavirus closures and social distancing, he decided to extend the experience to a broader audience online, and pivoted his exclusive in-person events to virtual tastings. He offers a number of set “tours”: an introduction to Scotch (touring the major whisky regions of Scotland), leveling up your tasting game, a tour of specific regions: Islay, the Highlands, Speyside, and a tour of historic blends. Tastings typically last an hour and-a-half to two and-a-half hours, depending on the number of samples and the level of instruction/information desired.

If you are new – C & P Coffee has a unique backstory; two years ago, the property’s owners put it on the market as a potential redevelopment site; with community support, the Moores bought it, two years ago this month.

That’s the sign on the door at the West Seattle Junction Starbucks, one of the stores now closed because the company’s gone (mostly) drive-through for at least a few weeks, as explained here. The only two drive-throughs in our area are Fauntleroy/Avalon and White Center (16th/100th). But there are other walkup coffee shops near most of the shuttered stores, such as:

ALKI – Top Pot (next door), Ampersand (east)
ADMIRAL – Freshy’s (southwest), West Seattle Grounds (northwest)
