To see who’s hosting artists, and who’s where, scroll through this month’s update on the official Art Walk website. For places staying open late and/or having artist receptions, hours will vary but most generally run until about 8 pm. Tonight also features two live performances for The Art of Music, 6-7:45 pm in The Junction and Admiral – here are the details on those. We’re headed out soon to make some stops and will add updates!

Even if you didn’t get out tonight, many businesses keep the art up throughout the month, so you can still see it – and in many cases, the artwork is for sale, too. Art Walk is always the second Thursday, so next one is September 15th.

Almost time for June’s West Seattle Art Walk – two nights away, on Thursday, June 9th. Here are six reasons not to stay home that night:

ART OF MUSIC X 2

The Art of Music is back! Two live performances this time, both 6 pm to 7:40 pm – Sue Quigley will be at KeyBank Plaza in the heart of The Junction (California/Alaska); Paul Gerard will be at West Seattle Grounds (2141 California SW) in North Admiral. Read about them here.

AWARD-WINNING ARTIST AT WEND

WEND at 3278 California SW is excited to showcase award-winning artist Deanne Belinoff this month, with a reception 5-8 pm on Art Walk night. The artist has been working professionally for more than 60 years and has pieces, according to WEND’s announcement, “in major public and private collections including Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the King County Public Art Collection.”

LILY’S SALVADOREAN RESTAURANT JOINS WS ART WALK

This is the first West Seattle Art Walk in which recently opened Lily’s Salvadorean Restaurant (2940 SW Avalon Way) is participating. 5-8 pm Thursday, the restaurant in Luna Park will host a reception for Izaya Colson, artist of the wall murals depicting Guazapa, El Salvador, where Lily grew up.

Bonus music at Fogue Gallery (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor) with guitarist Andrew Sherbrook, plus a reception for Alki artist Stacey Sterling.

ART FAIR/BAZAAR AT WINDERMERE

This month’s Art Walk features a multiple-artist bazaar 5:30 pm-8 pm at the Windermere office (4526 California SW) – jewelry, paintings, photographs, even soap!

Many more venues are participating on Art Walk night Thursday – with art and/or food/drink specials – you can see more highlights (and get full details on what we’ve mentioned above) on the Art Walk website.

From the northernmost stop on tonight’s West Seattle Art Walk:

Androu Morgan and Barbara Fugate are two of the artists whose works are featured in “Sky,” the display at Lake Washington Physical Therapy-West Seattle (1309 Harbor SW); LWPT co-owner Mark Bouma sent the photo. Barbara also curated “Sky,” described as “a collection of seven artists’ interpretation of the sky.” It’s an apt subject for LWPT, whose light-filled clinic is across the street from the shore of Elliott Bay, with a view of sky as well as sea. LWPT co-owner Laura Bouma tells us an upcoming exhibit at the clinic will focus on flowers.

Tomorrow night (Thursday, May 12th), you’re invited to get out to explore and enjoy local art, during the May edition of the West Seattle Art Walk. Above is this quarter’s list of venues – both those hosting art and those offering food/drink specials to people who are out and about on Art Walk night. One highlight: Lake Washington Physical Therapy (1309 Harbor Avenue SW; WSB sponsor) across from Don Armeni Boat Ramp is opening its doors for its quarterly Art Walk reception, spotlighting the group show “Sky” (previewed here) – stop in 7-8 pm to enjoy the art, and the view. And we talked with artist Pam Hemmerling at Viscon Cellars (5910 California SW; WSB sponsor):

She creates both portraits and abstracts, highly textured, both tactile and visual. Of her portraits, she told us, she likes to include the subjects as they really are, imperfections and all – she also enjoys creating a portrait that reveals something new as you look more closely. Also at Viscon, we talked with proprietor/winemaker Ben Viscon, who recently released a new Merlot, and is expecting to release a new Rose in about a month. His tasting room is open until 9 tonight.

That’s the list of participating venues for spring quarter – second Thursday every month. Some have art, some have specials, some have both! For those having artist receptions, hours vary – you can see the locations, times, and artists previewed here. Among the highlights:

This Thursday, we’ll still be a week and a half away from spring, but the weather should be good enough for you to plan on getting out for the West Seattle Art Walk!

That’s RobRoy Chalmers at Fogue Gallery (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor), where you can meet him at his reception during the Art Walk, 5 pm-8 pm. Fogue notes that his work has been shown worldwide – from Tokyo to Berlin to Boston and beyond. The gallery says he “brings dark implications hidden in whimsy and colorful imagery, fluid, sexy, dirty, messy, and always joyful. Featuring Charcoal, pastel and pencil on Rives BFK paper, mounted and custom framed.” Other Fogue Gallery artists will be there too – you’re invited to “sip champagne and enjoy the coming of spring!”

Venues are all over the peninsula – from North Admiral to South Delridge. In the latter, Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery (9441 Delridge Way SW) is featuring KAPOW!, “an artistic tribute to comics.” In The Junction, Jet City Labs (4546 California SW) is again featuring the Clay Cauldron collaboration pop-up. Those are just two of many. The official preview page for this month is still being updated, so check back before you go out exploring on Thursday night – times vary by venue.

5:26 PM: The February West Seattle Art Walk has begun, all over the peninsula!

We start at Click! Design That Fits (4540 California SW; WSB sponsor), where artist Erik Railton is on hand until 7 pm. Click proprietor John Smersh says, “Acrylic on canvas paintings, prints, and tote bags! 5:45 PM: During tonight’s Art Walk, if you’re in The Junction, you’re invited to the Galentine’s party at Lika Love/In The Heart:

4:23 PM: That’s artist Reeve Washburn at Click! – where the Jewelry Invitational and Small Works show is on until 7 pm. As Click! describes this year’s event:

This year’s annual Jewelry Invitational is a special one, for multiple reasons. For one thing, we’re expanding the scope to include other “Small Works,” not just wearable ones. What’s more, some of our featured jewelry is by Click! co-founder Frances Smersh. Made over the course of her 30-year career and pulled from the archives for a retrospective exhibition at her memorial this year, many pieces are available for the first time in decades.

His show is “Iconic Seattle: Various stylized impressionistic pieces of iconic Seattle locations and a few Van Gogh-inspired pieces.” The painting in our photo is “Moving Stillness.”

6:03 PM: If you favor animal art, go see Sonya Rupnick‘s work at Fogue Gallery (4130 California SW; WSB sponsor) “until late”:

She says of her work, “These paintings are little stories from a world where animals live a cozy, rural life, but one which is also sometimes unexpected and surprising. I try to portray them as living real, interesting lives, which we only see a portion of in each vignette. Each one has its own secret backstory.”
