BIZNOTE: Best of Hands Brewery & Barrelhouse adds ‘pop-up beer garden’

Though it might not be the best of weather for outdoor enjoyment tonight, the sunshine will return to full strength – Saturday afternoon, says the forecast. Here’s a new outdoor option for the rest of the summer: Best of Hands Brewery & Barrelhouse (7500 35th SW; WSB sponsor) emailed with the photo you see above and the news that “we are now featuring a weekend pop-up beer garden at the brewery from Friday @ 5 PM – close on Sunday for as long as the weather holds. It is still 21+ throughout our premises.” They’re still hosting food trucks, too – find the calendar by scrolling down their homepage.

BIZNOTE: New covered patio at 2 Fingers Social

Thanks to a crowdfunding campaign and lots of hard work, 2 Fingers Social in South Delridge has a brand-new covered patio.

Not only is it shelter from the blazing late-in-the-day sun, but 2 Fingers (9211 Delridge Way SW) also notes it’ll allow them to stay healthier outside during the fall and winter.

REOPENING: Pho Aroma, Emerald Kitty Café

We’ve heardd from two more reopened West Seattle food/beverage businesses:

PHO AROMA: Today is the first day back in business for the Vietnamese restaurant at 5605 Delridge Way SW. They’re open noon 7 pm Mondays through Saturdays, closed Sundays.

EMERALD KITTY CAFE: Open for pick-up coffee at 3422 Harbor SW, Tuesdays-Saturdays 7:30 am-2 pm (closed from 11-11:30 for lunch break), closed Sundays and Mondays. And they remind us that “100% of proceeds go back to the pet rescue” (Emerald City).

Admiral Starbucks temporarily closed after employee tests positive for COVID-19

Multiple readers emailed today to ask why the recently remodeled Admiral Starbucks store had abruptly closed without explanation. We inquired with the corporate media team, and here’s the response from a spokesperson:

(W)we recently learned one of our partners at the store received a positive diagnosis for COVID-19 and is self-isolating at home for a period of time. Further to that, as soon as we learned of the diagnosis (on the same day), we quickly activated our protocols and closed the store to initiate a deep cleaning following all recommended guidelines from public health authorities.

It’s important for me to add that Starbucks takes seriously our responsibility to keep our partners and customers safe, and all partners who were deemed to have worked in close contact with this partner will be paid for the time they will miss during the recommended 14 days of self-isolation (from date of exposure). As far as re-opening, I don’t have an exact date but the store will resume operations next week.

FATHER’S DAY: Tasty ways to celebrate; got anything to add to the list?

Shop/drink/dine local for Father’s Day! We’ve been asked about local food/beverage opportunities for the big day this Sunday (June 21st). So far, we have three from the WSB inbox:

OUNCES (3809 Delridge Way SW): Barbecue & Beer noon-5 pm on Father’s Day – “local NWTXBBQ will be at Ounces smoking up some tasty central-Texas-style bbq, featuring their specialty mesquite dry-rub smoked brisket and other goodies!” More info here.

Also, all weekend (Friday-Sunday) at Ounces, you can support the Lafayette Elementary PTA via any purchase made at the taproom (mention Lafayette) or online (click the Lafayette checkbpx when purchasing at www.ouncestogo.com.)

ROOT-BEER FLOAT KITS: As previously mentioned, the Alki Elementary PTA is “supporting Husky Deli, The Beer Junction, and Safeway on Admiral as we sell pre-orders of DIY ROOT BEER FLOAT KITS for drive-thru pick-up at Husky Deli (4721 California SW) on Father’s Day, June 21st. JET CITY BEIGNET: “In addition to our regular Sunday pop-up on 6/21, we’ll be offering some fabulous and delicious Father’s Day beignet gift boxes that will include a maple bourbon sauce made by Green City Kitchens and add-on options of ice cream or sorbet from Seattle Sorbets and roca by Renee’s Roca. All of the items we are offering are made by small WS businesses. You can find the boxes and details here.”

BUSINESS UPDATES: 3 food/beverage notes

First, two reopenings:

And a followup:

REBELLYOUS NUGGETS AVAILABLE IN WEST SEATTLE: We noted last month that the “plant-based ‘chicken’ nuggets” startup in The Triangle was starting to sell retail, but at the time, no West Seattle outlet. That’s just changed – Rebellyous tells WSB that Wildwood Market in Fauntleroy (9214 45th Ave SW) is now carrying their nuggets.

RESTAURANTS/BEVERAGE BUSINESSES: Admiral Starbucks reopens post-remodel, and other updates

Thanks to Andy for the photo. OPEN FOR TAKE-OUT: More additions to our West Seattle list

It’s now been two months since the governor’s orders limited restaurants to take-out/delivery. Since the start, we’ve kept a long list of your West Seattle options – not just restaurants but also other businesses offering prepared-food and/or beverages. Two more additions to mention as the week begins; Tuxedos and Tennis Shoes, well-known for its catering, is now offering take-and-bake Family Meals, for pickup at The Hall at Fauntleroy or for delivery – order by noon Mondays for pickup/delivery on Wednesdays. BIZNOTE: What was The Shack is now The Spot

Another West Seattle food-and-beverage business has launched in defiance of the coronavirus crunch.

Philip Sudore has opened The Spot West Seattle at 2920 SW Avalon Way, where Shack Coffeehouse closed six months ago.

You might know him already for his music, with the band Mercy Parker. Eventually, he hopes you’ll know him for a restaurant with a full bar, once COVID-19 is past – a tapas-style menu with craft cocktails and craft beer. But for now, “We have an amazing, dynamic, and fun waffle menu, plus great coffee and espresso.” (Scroll down this page to see that menu.)

The coffee is from K&F Roasters out of Portland – the award-winning Café Jondo, an organic fair-trade blend of African and South American coffees.

Current hours at The Spot are 6:30 am-4 pm weekdays, 7 am-4 pm Saturdays, 8 am-4 pm Sundays. (Post-pandemic, they’ll have evening hours too.)

RESTAURANTS/BEVERAGE BUSINESSES: 2 more West Seattle reopenings. Plus, a change in cocktail rules

More updates to our ongoing list of West Seattle restaurants and beverage businesses open for your food/drink pickup and/or delivery needs: Two more coffee shops. This past Monday, C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) reopened, and today we heard from two more coffee shops – Olympia Coffee (3840 California SW) also reopened on Monday, we learned today, 7 am-5 pm daily. And we got word that Uptown Espresso in The Junction (California/Edmunds) plans to reopen next Monday (May 11th), with hours 8 am-3 pm.

Also, if your favorite restaurant has a full liquor license, you might soon be able to get a takeout pre-mixed cocktail with your food, if they choose to take advantage of this newly announced state rule change.

Updates for our list? westseattleblog@gmail.com or text 206-293-6302 – thank you!

REOPENING: C & P Coffee’s comeback

(WSB file photo)

After temporarily closing for a month, C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor) proprietors Cameron and Pete Moores have announced they’re reopening:

We are very excited to announce that we are opening our doors – well, windows – on Monday, May 4th. Our new hours of operation will be 8 am to 4pm.

We will be offering delicious espresso drinks and whole bean coffee from Lighthouse Roasters as well as to-go Beer and Wine selections (21 and older).

To reinforce social distancing, we are operating through the back window of the coffee shop, for take-away only. There is easy access in the alley between Juneau and Findlay streets.

While we were closed, we took some extra measures, and a lot of elbow grease, to improve our methods of operation to keep us all healthy and to ensure the safety of our friends and our employees.

We can’t wait to see all of our neighbors and friends over the coming weeks as we reconnect with our amazing community.

C & P is at 5612 California SW; its alley entrance is just south of Findlay.

RESTAURANTS/BEVERAGE BUSINESSES: Another West Seattle reopening; also – what are you doing for Mother’s Day?

Two notes as we continue updating our West Seattle (etc.) list of restaurants/beverage businesses:

ANOTHER REOPENING: The Bridge in Morgan Junction (6301 California SW) has reopened for takeout/delivery, 4 pm to 9 pm, Tuesdays through Saturdays.

WHAT’S UP FOR MOTHER’S DAY? The special day for moms is a week and a half away (Sunday, May 10th), and we’re getting questions about whether anyone’s planning a special menu. If your venue is – or if you’ve seen an announcement – please let us know (westseattleblog@gmail.com, text 206-293-6302, or in comments) – thank you!

OPEN: More updates for ongoing list of West Seattle (etc.) restaurant/beverage-businesses

We’ve been keeping a list of local restaurants and beverage businesses since the day after the governor’s March 15th order closed them all to dine-in/drink-in customers, and we’ve continued to update the list as we get word from the businesses and/or customers. The 140+ businesses on the list are mostly West Seattle, with a few in White Center and South Park (you might be going that way for the alternate bridge!). Two additions today – Ma’ono is reopening for takeout/delivery, and Uncle Eddie’s (in South Park, owned by West Seattleites) has just reopened too. Got any other update/changes/additions/etc.? westseattleblog@gmail.com is the best way to get them to us – thank you!

(P.S. The list is findable any time in two fixed spots on WSB – the “Spotlight Stories” box on most home-page displays, or the RESTAURANT LIST on the WSB menu across all devices.)

BIZ UPDATES: Viscon Cellars; Whisky Business, LLC

Two more business updates – both from the adult-beverage business. irst, from longtime WSB sponsor Viscon Cellars:

We are not open our regular hours due to our mandated inability to conduct tastings; however, we can sell bottles for home consumption.

All of our current wines are available to order on our website Visconcellars.com. Customers can place their orders and I will personally deliver..Within reason :)

Otherwise customers can have the wines shipped to them via UPS if they are outside of the Seattle area.

I am thankful to our community for coming together to support small business and helping us all learn and grow from this experience, which allows us to remain close, while we are apart.

I have spoken with many of my peers in the wine business and restaurants and even retailers that are thankful to live in this community where we can all lean on and support one another.

And a launch announcement – Whisky Business, LLC:

Hankering for something fun, interesting, and “adult” to do during quarantine? Local Certified Scotch Professional and West Seattle resident Christian Skoorsmith comes to the rescue. A perfect date-night with your quarantine partner, or even a fun solo diversion, you receive a flight of Scotch samples delivered to your door, and a group of “attendees” meets online for a professionally-led tasting: a couple hours of tasting notes, techniques, history, ecology, terroir, the whole gambit. Everything you need to deepen your enjoyment of Scotch, and taste like a professional.

Skoorsmith is the Chair of the Seattle Single-malt Society, and has been leading Scotch Tastings locally for more than a year. In the wake of Coronavirus closures and social distancing, he decided to extend the experience to a broader audience online, and pivoted his exclusive in-person events to virtual tastings. He offers a number of set “tours”: an introduction to Scotch (touring the major whisky regions of Scotland), leveling up your tasting game, a tour of specific regions: Islay, the Highlands, Speyside, and a tour of historic blends. Tastings typically last an hour and-a-half to two and-a-half hours, depending on the number of samples and the level of instruction/information desired.

Got a business update? westseattleblog@gmail.com – thanks!

Hungry? Thirsty? More updates to our list of West Seattle (etc.) restaurants and other food/beverage businesses with takeout and/or delivery

This is now the third week that we’ve been updating the original West Seattle (etc.) list of restaurants and other food/beverage businesses open for takeout and/or delivery. We just updated three more listings thanks to proprietors and readers, and added one. Tens of thousands of readers have used the list, so we appreciate your help in catching changes (anything from new hours to online ordering to reopenings and closures) – westseattleblog@gmail.com or text 206-293-6302 – thank you!

CLOSURE: C & P Coffee temporarily shutters, while opening ‘virtual tip jar’ for staff

(WSB file photo)

C & P Coffee Company (longtime WSB sponsor) has decided to close for now, almost two weeks after the governor’s order to close restaurants/beverage businesses aside from takeout/delivery. Co-proprietors Cameroon and Pete Moores sent us their announcement, which spotlights a way for the community to help their staff:

Dear Friends and Neighbors

It is with a heavy heart that we have decided to temporarily close the coffee house. We feel that it is the best way to support our community and keep our customers and employees safe.

We have established a Go-FundMe “Tip Jar” for our hard working baristas who are most affected by this.

Here is the link if you would like to contribute.
www.gofundme.com/f/c-amp-p-tip-jar

Please don’t hesitate to reach out through Facebook or e-mail: candpco@candpcoffee.com.

We will update the website with any additional news:
candpcoffee.com

We will miss you during our closure but know that we plan on opening up our doors as soon as possible. We will continue to be a community hub of arts, music and conversation. A place where neighbors can share a cup of coffee, support a cause, and a whole lot of joy and laughter.

Our doors may be closed for now but our hearts are open.

With so much love and gratitude,
Cam and Pete

If you are new – C & P Coffee has a unique backstory; two years ago, the property’s owners put it on the market as a potential redevelopment site; with community support, the Moores bought it, two years ago this month.

We are continuing to update the West Seattle restaurant/beverages list as changes come in.

RESTAURANT & BEVERAGE BUSINESSES: More updates for our West Seattle list

As noted when the governor issued the “stay home” order, food and beverage businesses CAN stay open for takeout and delivery – they’re considered “essential.” So we are continuing to update the West Seattle list (see it here) we launched eight days ago, right after the governor ordered an end to dine-in/sit-down service. Already this week, we’ve had a few more closures, and a reopening. Please help us keep this updated – whether you are a business owner/staffer or customer, if you have a change/addition, please email us at westseattleblog@gmail.com or text 206-293-6302 – thank you!

COFFEE: Starbucks goes drive-through only; here are the places nearest shuttered stores to get your walk-up coffee instead

That’s the sign on the door at the West Seattle Junction Starbucks, one of the stores now closed because the company’s gone (mostly) drive-through for at least a few weeks, as explained here. The only two drive-throughs in our area are Fauntleroy/Avalon and White Center (16th/100th). But there are other walkup coffee shops near most of the shuttered stores, such as:

HELP MAKE THE LIST: Restaurants, beverage places offering pickup/delivery

7:56 AM: Since last night’s announcement that food/beverage places have to close unless they can offer pickup/delivery, we’ve had lots of requests to publish a list of who in West Seattle will be doing that. We started checking websites and social-media channels for local establishments but that’s taking a lot of time and (understandably) not everyone has updated. So we’re asking for YOUR help – if you have a restaurant or coffee/beverage business, please send us your info – or if you’ve seen info, let us know! Email westseattleblog@gmail.com, text or call 206-293-6302, or comment below – thank you!

10:16 AM: Thanks for the help. We’re still building this and right after the governor/executive’s briefing (now set for 11 am), we’ll publish what we have, and keep adding to it.
