The 2026 FIFA World Cup’s Seattle leg will come to a close tomorrow with the USA v. Belgium match kicking off at 5 p.m. The two teams will be competing for a place in the quarterfinals – the USA’s first time in this position since 2002.
In light of the big day, the city will continue some of its previous game day traditions, but also plans additional street closures, fan zone operating times, and watch parties in anticipation of larger crowds tomorrow. Here’s what to know if you’re going to or through downtown, whether you have match tickets or not:
Fan celebrations will commence at Pier 58 tomorrow morning starting at 10:30 a.m. accompanied with DJs, fan activations, food, drinks, and more.
Fans are invited to participate in the USA “March to the Match” taking off from the pier around 3 p.m. SeattleFWC26 recommends that fans without tickets to the match itself remain at Pier 58, or will be directed to exit the march before the crowd reaches Seattle Stadium.
Some changes will be made to fan celebrations including the opening of the Pioneer Square Pedestrian Zone (map above) 30 minutes earlier, at 12:30 pm, and a new watch party in the Chinatown-International District dubbed “Kicking it in the CID.” The party will be hosted at Hing Hay Park, with doors opening at 4 p.m.
SDOT plans to close additional streets including portions of Alaskan Way beginning in the early afternoon and lasting through the duration of the march. (Details here.) Additionally, the northbound SR 99 exit to Dearborn Street and Alaskan Way will be closed until the march is out of the area. Generally, SeattleFWC26 recommends that for traveling downtown, drivers should consider taking the I-5 or SR 99 tunnel.
For West Seattle residents looking to get downtown, the West Seattle Water Taxi route will be providing additional service from 8:45 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Boats will depart from each dock – Seacrest here, Pier 50 downtown – every 20 minutes, but the King County Water Taxi advisory notes that if boats hit capacity, they will depart early.
If you’re not heading downtown but want to watch the match with other fans, we checked around for watch parties; Ounces already has one in the WSB West Seattle Event Calendar, and other venues planning watch parties include Admiral Pub (2306 California SW), West Wings (2329 California SW), The Westy (7908 35th SW), Beveridge Place Pub (6413 California SW), and The Bridge (California/Graham) will be showing the match. (Any place else? Let us know and we’ll add.)
1:48 PM: Thanks for the tips. Multiple SFD units and SPD are at a crash scene near Salty’s (1936 Harbor SW); no details of the crash yet but avoid the area for a while.

We’re just back from the “Gather For Goals” World Cup-watching street party in White Center and noticed that the southernmost block of Delridge Way SW is closed to motor vehicles too, though the soccer-showing big screens are all on 16th south of Roxbury (16th is closed all the way to 100th). So if you’re looking to head southbound toward Roxbury, do it north or south of Delridge. And if you’re on foot, do wander over to see the vendors who are on the South Delridge block, as well as local shops and restaurants. We’ll have a separate report on the start of Gather For Goals – which continues until 7 pm – shortly.
7:35 AM: Thanks for the tip and photo. A car-on-side crash at the curve on the westbound West Seattle Bridge.
7:49 AM: Most of the initially large response has been dismissed; we’ll be following up with SFD re: injuries. Obviously if you’re headed inbound any time soon, you’ll want to find another route, like the low bridge.
8:07 AM: Police will be closing the EB lanes too.
8:24 AM: Live camera shows that side open and traffic coming from the WB side too; SFD log shows their responders have all cleared.

WEATHER + SUNRISE/SUNSET
Also over for now, the summery heat (record high again Monday, 91). Summer officially arrives early Sunday, so this is technically still spring. Today’s forecast is for increasing clouds, high in the low 70s. Sunrise was at 5:11 am (earliest of the year, remaining there until June 23); sunset will be at 9:09 pm.

SPOTLIGHT TRAFFIC CAMERAS
The city cameras’ updating-framegrab feature is still not working; we’ve reported it, still no ETA for restoration. In the meantime, you can check live video for any SDOT camera via the SDOT map. State cameras are working and we do have one in the regular lineup:
1st Avenue South Bridge:

(We’ll return the regular camera lineup when the city cams are fully working again.)
See trouble on the bridges/streets/paths/water? Please text or call our hotline (when you can do it safely, and after you’ve reported to authorities if they’re not already on scene) – 206-293-6302. Thank you!
6:21 AM: Crash toward bottom of Highland Park Way hill, (update) just west of West Marginal. Live camera shows most lanes blocked, so avoid the hill. Police are on scene.
6:34 AM: That screenshot from one of the SDOT live feeds shows part of the scene. Police are calling for 3 tow trucks. No details on injuries yet but SFD was sent.
6:51 AM: Crash at California/102nd in Arbor Heights. Dispatcher says no one hurt “but it is blocking” at least part of that intersection.

After years of planning and anticipation, tomorrow’s the big day – Seattle’s first FIFA World Cup match, Belgium vs. Egypt at noon, with five more matches to follow here over the next three weeks. Whether you’re going to the game or just going to, or near, SODO and/or downtown, the map above shows some key things you need to know – particularly the area that’ll be closed off to motor-vehicle traffic. Some buses will be rerouted as a result – including West Seattle’s Route 21; go here to get reroute details. You can also read more about the pedestrian zone on this SDOT page, which says the street closures should start about four hours before the matches and end
The West Seattle Water Taxi‘s schedule will be affected too – a round trip will be added on World Cup match days during what otherwise is a two-hour gap in the WSWT schedule – a 10 am departure from downtown’s Pier 50 to Seacrest, and a 10:15 am departure from West Seattle.
We’ll be watching traffic/transportation closely through the day, with updates as (if) events warrant! If you see something your neighbors should know about, on the roads/path/water (or at the stadium!), we’re at 206-293-6302, text or voice, any time.
2:55 PM: Thanks for the tips (and thanks to Bill for the photo): That collision is blocking the heart of the 35th/Fauntleroy intersection at the southwest end of the West Seattle Bridge. Checking on injuries. Looking at the live camera, westbound traffic on Fauntleroy appears to be getting by, but not northbound traffic on 35th.
3:18 PM: One lane is now moving northbound on 35th, and one of the cars has been removed, while cleanup continues around the other one.
3:34 PM: The second car has been towed.
7:18 PM: SFD tells us two people were treated but neither had to go to the hospital – a 75-year-old woman and a 37-year-old woman.
