West Seattle, Washington
08 Sunday
10:06 PM: Police are arriving at the scene of a two-vehicle crash reported at California/Dakota, with at least two people hurt.
11:06 PM: Police have just reopened the street. We went to the scene after a report that one vehicle had ended up on the lawn of a church – First Lutheran Church of West Seattle (WSB sponsor) – is on the southwest corner – but all we could see was one vehicle on the sidewalk. We’re following up with SFD regarding the people who were hurt.
ADDED 9:45 AM MONDAY: SFD responded:
There were four patients, and all were in stable condition:
14-year-old-male, not transported to the hospital
15-year-old-female, not transported to the hospital
16-year-old-female, transported by AMR to HMC
17-year-old-male, transported by AMR to HMC
(AMR is the private ambulance service, usually indicates a less-serious injury/illness than would require transport by an SFD medic unit.)
11:21 AM: A reader citing family involvement says the boy listed as 14 is actually 15 and the girl listed as 15 is 16.
11:59 PM: Police were checking out simultaneously dispatched reports of crashes at Fauntleroy/39th and Fauntleroy/Avalon. First they reported the two were likely related; now they’ve told dispatch that a pole is down at Fauntleroy/Avalon and the signal lights are out. (No outage on the City Light map, though.) Meantime, radio exchanges also indicate a driver is being investigated for suspected DUI in the midst of all this. Avoid the area.
1:22 AM: Tried to get close enough to see the pole, but couldn’t. We can report, however, that traffic is getting through the area, and the only light affected is where Avalon and Fauntleroy meet – 35th/Avalon/bridge signals are working. If the pole in question has to be repaired/replaced, you may see city crews there later, though.
9:42 PM: SPD, SFD, and KCSO are all at the scene of what’s described as a “high-speed crash” blocking Olson Place near Arrowhead Gardens. At least two people are reported to be hurt, with possible serious injuries involved, according to what responders have told dispatch; the crash was described as a pickup truck driver hitting either a tree or pole. Westbound traffic is being diverted onto Myers Way.
9:59 PM: They’re calling for a tow truck and for an SDOT cleanup crew because of a “fluid spill” estimated at up to 200 feet long.
10:55 PM: An officer at the scene just told dispatch that the road will reopen as soon as SDOT picks up its cones. At least one person was taken to the hospital; we’ll follow up with SFD on the victims.
ADDED SUNDAY NIGHT: A short summary from police:
At 2125 hours, 911 received reports of a driver was driving faster than the speed limit at the 9200 block of Olson PL SW. The driver struck a tree and rail, causing back injury to the passenger. The driver was arrested for DUI, and the passenger was transported to HMC with non-life-threatening injuries. Olson PL SW was shut down for an hour and a half due to fluid spill. The incident was screened with TCIS, and they will do a follow up for possible further charges.
Also, we asked SFD about injuries; they tell us two teenage boys, one 17 and one 16, were taken to Harborview via private ambulance, both in stable condition at the time. We’ll have to follow up with police regarding whether one was the driver or both were passengers.
6:03 AM: Good morning! It’s Friday, December 26, 2025, and as a lone weekday between a holiday and a weekend, this should be a bit quieter.
WEATHER + SUNRISE/SUNSET
The forecast says more rain is expected, west wind in the morning, high in the mid-40s. Sunrise will be at 7:56 am; sunset at 4:23 pm.

#1: Truck with ~30 ft long boat on trailer is turned around wrong way but stationary on the West Seattle Eastbound to the right side of the shoulder at the WA99 exit. Emergency vehicles signaling to move around.
# 2: White Jeep off-road (at least the passenger side airbag went off) right after Admiral off-ramp from West Seattle Bridge Westbound. While emergency crews are onsite, the accident has closed the right lane, making a dangerous exit off of the West Seattle Bridge at Admiral.

Just sent by a reader, that photo of a spinout crash in the 5600 block of West Marginal Way SW. The reader said it’s important to remember how slippery it is out right now; they took the photo before emergency responders arrived but said 911 had been called. SFD is on the way after a report that at least one person might be hurt.
12:30 PM: Police have just been dispatched to another crash reported on the westbound West Seattle Bridge, this time described as near the Delridge offramp, someone spinning out and hitting the barrier. No word yet on injuries.
12:44 PM: The scene is reported to have cleared quickly.
8:00 AM: Thanks for the tips. A large law-enforcement response is blocking northbound Delridge Way near Orchard. Photojournalist Tim Durkan reports it is the end of a King County Sheriff’s Office pursuit that started with an armed carjacking in the White Center vicinity. He reports one person is in custody.
8:31 AM: Metro has finally just sent an alert saying the H Line is rerouted in the area. But our crew member checking out the scene says it appears close to clearing – a tow truck is on scene and more of the Burien PD/KCSO cars are leaving. Photo added above. (We’re following up with KCSO for further info on what started this.)
9:45 AM: A tree is down, blocking part of the 7500 block of 20th SW.
10:10 AM: SDOT is reported to be on scene to clear the tree.
