UPDATE: West Seattle low bridge reopens after ‘malfunctions’

6:56 PM: SDOT says “mechanical malfunctions” have closed the low bridge to all traffic, motorized and non-motorized.

7:43 PM: Still closed, and no progress report from SDOT.

9:15 PM: The live camera shows the bridge is open to surface traffic again.

Doesn’t look like it. I’ve been checking in on the live camera every few minutes and some riders have been waiting, with others riding up – SDOT really needs signage that can be used in circumstances like this to explain it’s a TFN closure….

I just rode back from the low bridge 45 minutes ago. Thankfully water taxi is running late for FIFA. Pathetic there was no information for stranded cyclists. I only found out because of the West Seattle Blog! Thanks for all you do.

There’s a loudspeaker on the pole next to the swing-gate. Lately it has been producing amplified buzzing static 24/7.

Thank you for posting this.  I was a biker and came to the blog and realized that it would likely be closed for awhile. I was able to tell some other bikers and we turned around and went to 1st avenue bridge.  If I didn’t see this, I probably would still be waiting there. Thank you!
