One of the newer West Seattle traditions that livens up late summer is about to begin! Tomorrow is the first day of the 2026 West Seattle Glass Float Hunt, with 100 glass floats like the one seen above hidden around the peninsula, indoors and outdoors, over the course of a week (August 7-14). It’s a collaboration between the West Seattle Chamber of Commerce and West Seattle Junction Association, with businesses sponsoring and participating, as well as city matching-funds support. As explained on the official website, if/when you find a float, it’s yours to keep – the only request is that you use its unique QR code to report you found it, so that can be noted on what will be an ongoing online list. And the official announcement notes a change:
This year, daily clues are taking a back seat. Clues will only be released if a float hasn’t been found, giving participants a chance to explore West Seattle, stop into and discover local businesses, as well as experience the neighborhoods that make this community so unique.
“The Glass Float Hunt has never just been about finding a glass float,” said Rachel Porter, Executive Director of the West Seattle Chamber. “It’s about supporting the small businesses that make West Seattle so distinct. We hope people will grab a coffee, browse a shop they’ve never walked into, stay to eat, and spend time supporting the businesses that invest in this community every day.”

6:48 PM: Driftwood Drive is playing classic hits of the past few decades as they open the final concert of the Admiral Neighborhood Association‘s Admiral Music in the Parks series.
Again this year, ANA rotated the shows – which were all at Hiawatha pre-pandemic/pre-renovations – between three lesser-used Admiral parks, and tonight it’s Hamilton Viewpoint (1120 California SW), with Elliott Bay and the downtown skyline as the backdrop behind the band.
Lots of room to dance, and as usual, lots of little kids are doing that, but grownups are welcome to dance too. Walk or roll here and you’ll find special attended free parking for your wheels (strollers too). Bring your yarn and needles for the knitting circle, or come borrow from the board-game library. And bring your own chair/mat/blanket. The show’s on until about 8 pm. It’s free thanks to donations (if you want to chip in, go here), volunteers (including the ANA board members who do the coordinating – Meagan Loftin and Dan Jacobs) – and community co-sponsors (including WSB).
8:03 PM: The concert is wrapping up; Driftwood Drive is playing an encore song right now. ANA says they counted 800 people here for the concert. They actually have one more live-music event this summer – the Admiral Block Party on August 22, with music the night before too – see the lineups here.
7:21 PM: We’re in the second hour of Band Jam, hosted by the Seattle Schools All-City Marching Band at Nino Cantu Southwest Athletic Complex.
After a drumline, color guard, brass band, and more, we’re currently seeing the first marching band of the night, from Kennedy Catholic High School in nearby Burien. This is free and fun, and currently going exactly to the schedule/lineup we obtained from ACB director Dr. Marcus Pimpleton (who played trombone with the Soul Jambalaya Brass Band a little while ago).
So c’mon down to 2801 SW Thistle. Food trucks!

10:24 PM: Arguably the highlight of the night was the first part of the All-City Band’s performance, which also featured the alumni band set up for this 75th-anniversary season – they’re in the foreground, yellow shirts:
The alums then left and the ACB performed for 15 more minutes, counting more shouted declarations at the very end, beyond the repeated “Who are we? All-City Band” – this included “What do we do? Entertain!” That, they do:
They were preceded by the official Sounders FC band Sound Wave. We just recorded two slices of their set, but as a whole it was intensely local, from Nirvana’s “Come” to the ’60s TV song “The Bluest Skies I’ve Ever Seen are in Seattle” and beyond.
They followed another pro-sports-team-affiliated group, the Seahawks’ Blue Thunder drumline, who at several points in their set led everyone in a round of “Sea! Hawks! Sea! Hawks!”
Up from Pierce County, the Sumner HS Marching Band is a frequent Band Jam participant:
The only band to march – well, more like stride – onto the field chanting PAR-TY, PAR-TY, was Neon Brass Party:
Both that band and the Kennedy Catholic HS Marching Band (mentioned above) had lots of pop songs in their sets.
As also mentioned above, the Soul Jambalaya Brass Band played, with musicians including ACB leader Dr. Marcus Pimpleton.

And it all began with the Rainbow City Color Guard – in our clip, you’ll see them perform to “How It’s Done” from the hit animated movie “K-Pop Demon Hunters”:
Some of those who performed tonight will be in Saturday night’s Seafair Torchlight Parade along the downtown waterfront. Band Jam started at NCSWAC in 2009; it eventually moved to Memorial Stadium, but the rebuild started last summer so Band Jam came back here. The rebuilt Memorial Stadium isn’t expected to open until fall of next year, so we might see Band Jam in West Seattle next year too.

6:41 PM: Big sound in a little park – that’s what’s happening now in the second free show in the three-concert Admiral Music in the Parks series. Michael Pearsall is performing tonight – to be joined by friends later in the evening – at California Place Park, the bigger-than-it-looks bus-stop park next to the former Admiral Church at California/Hill.
Grab your chair and come on down – this will continue until about 8 pm, brought to you by the Admiral Neighborhood Association.
There’s bike/stroller parking, a board-game library, knitting circle, and craft activity (making maracas) again this week too -here’s a look!

10:12 AM: Before hundreds of people ride, roll, march, and walk in the West Seattle Grand Parade, runners and walkers are on the route for the Float Dodger 5K, presented by West Seattle Runner (WSB sponsor) as a fundraiser for the West Seattle Food Bank. This year, more than 600 had registered as of a few minutes before the start on Hiawatha Playfield. This year, they took off in three waves – we recorded video of each wave’s start:

Sunday, July 12th, 2026 – 9:15 am to 1:00 pmMeet at Hamilton Viewpoint Park
1318 Palm Ave SWIt’s time again to ride from Seattle Street to Portland Street in West Seattle! Join us for our 14th annual riding of this event starting at Hamilton Viewpoint Park in West Seattle on a 10.2-mile route at a leisurely 10-12 mph pace! Register at the start. We invite and welcome everyone including people of all ages, languages, ethnicities, genders, races, and abilities. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
We will be riding from SW Seattle Street [North Admiral] to SW Portland Street [Gatewood], and back north to Summer Fest at the West Seattle Junction, for a fabulous finish-line party. After some time at the festival, participants can ride home independently, or ride with a leader back to Hamilton Viewpoint.
Our goal will be to stay together as a group. Be prepared for a moderately hilly route. There are a couple of hills that some may wish to walk up. We will regroup at the top of hills. We will stop along the way for restrooms/water at mile 2.7 at the Alaska Junction.
Check brakes and tires before leaving home. Arrive in time for 9:15 ride description and safety briefing. Must be present at the safety briefing to participate. Helmets required. No ear buds. Steady rain cancels. We will ride if there are just light showers.

The Blowout Heavies Brass Band is providing the soundtrack tonight at Highland Park Improvement Club‘s First Fridays gathering on the past-and-future HPIC site at 12th/Holden. We counted about 100 people having a great time, including everybody helping judge the 18 pies entered in the Bake-Off:
Flavors ranged from “plumberry” to chocolate pecan – right about now, they’re tallying votes and deciding who gets these:
Tonight’s First Fridays party had savory treats as well as sweet:
$7 got a plate in what was dubbed the “Bite of Southwest Seattle.” The party goes on until about 8:30 tonight:

That photo shows 150 or so of the walkers who joined in last year’s first-ever West Seattle Saunter. A few tipped us that the free mega-walk is returning this year, and organizer Holden has since sent us the announcement:

The walk is set to start at 8:45 am July 11, which is the second day of Summer Fest. It’s a spinoff of the Seattle Super Saunter (which happened on Memorial Day weekend).

The street party that’s under way right now on both sides of Roxbury, from the south block of Delridge Way southward on 16th to 100th, is called “Gather For Goals.” And while its centerpieces are four huge screens showing World Cup soccer matches, the “goals” it’s meant to celebrate are also those of the local community. That was the message of welcoming speakers who talked for a bit between two of the screens right before the Norway-France kickoff – King County Executive Girmay Zahilay, King County Local Services director Leon Richardson, Elliot Hills from White Center Pride, Chris Lampkin from County Councilmember Teresa Mosqueda‘s team, and King County Local Services’s Brent Champaco, all in our video:
White Center Pride is co-presenting this with King County. Even if you’re not that into soccer, it’s an opportunity to wander the street and check out businesses like Wolfpack Cellars (WSB sponsor), which has an outdoor canopy right next to one of the big screens:
If you have one or more kids in tow, detour into the Tim’s Tavern parking lot at 16th/98th – steps from two of the big screens – where you’ll find free bouncy houses. This is all on until 7 tonight, rain or shine (all we experienced while there was a bit of mist).

On this first weekday of summer, we’re checking in on some of the big West Seattle events ahead. That includes updates on the Admiral Neighborhood Association‘s concert series, Admiral Music in the Parks. We brought you the lineup announcement last month. But you’ll find more than music, as ANA’s Meagan Loftin explains in this update:
Less than a month until AMP: Admiral Music in the Parks returns for our first concert of the season!
In addition to a rockin’ music lineup, we’re happy to announce some returning and new offerings to amp up our concert series. Seattle Yarn is back this year hosting their weekly knitting circle at each concert and PCC Community Markets is also returning this year with snacks and information about the co-op. New this year, we’ll also have a board game library and a music-craft activity for kids next to the Admiral Neighborhood Association booth.
And if you’re planning to bike or stroll to the concerts, Alki Bike & Board is sponsoring a new valet-style attended bike and stroller corral at each park to make sustainable transportation an easier option for everyone. We’re excited for another great summer of concerts in the parks and we hope to see you there!

One month away from two big events on the same day – on Saturday, July 18. The West Seattle Grand Parade starts just before 11 am at California/Lander in the Admiral District and proceeds southbound on California all the way to SW Edmunds at the south end of The Junction. Before the parade, you can run or walk that route in the West Seattle Float Dodger 5K, which starts at 9:30 am (after a free “kids’ dash” at 8:45 am)mm.

The parade is presented by the West Seattle Rotary Foundation, and the 5K is organized by West Seattle Runner (both the Rotary and WSR are WSB sponsors) as a fundraiser for the West Seattle Food Bank. To run or walk in the 5K, register here; to watch the parade, just pick a spot along the route!
As we’ve noted previously, Washington State Ferries is celebrating its 75th anniversary all month, and this afternoon is the Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth route’s chance for a party. A DJ from C89.5 Radio – the dance-music FM station – is spinning for a dance party on the deck of M/V Kittitas.
DJ Johnny Monsoon is in the sun, providing the beats. Passengers are providing the party spirit:

We’re told they’re on board for the 4:30 westward sailing, not just 3:30 as previously announced, so if you’re getting on a Triangle Route in the next hour or so, you might just get to join the party. Swag too!
That’s the start of the first wave of the first event in today’s record-setting 10th annual Loop the ‘Lupe at Walt Hundley Playfield – the “Elite Wave” taking on the only obstacle-course 5K in Seattle city limits, with bonus obstacles. Loop the ‘Lupe, the only obstacle-course event in Seattle city limits (with three non-obstacle options too), is ready to roll Saturday, rain or shine! That’s the word this morning from Race Director Brian Callanan, who also tells WSB:
Loop the ‘Lupe is excited to kick off our event Saturday at Walt Hundley Playfield, and on-field registration starts at 10 a.m.! There’s still time to sign up online, and remember, discounts kick in when you register teams of four or more. We highly recommend picking up your packet at West Seattle Runner today from 4-6 p.m.
On race day, we’re expecting a bit of wet, cool weather … which is only going to make the mud even muddier and the whole course more fun and challenging! :) With 720+ racers ready to go, we’re close to breaking last year’s record of 770 participants, so please come and join us! We’ll have our BBQ and beer/cider garden (age 21+) open at 11 a.m., when the first race starts, and we’re hoping to bring you live music from West Seattle School of Rock (game-time decision, due to weather). Now that it’s the 4th of June, we have the chance to remind you that we’re exactly one month away from the peninsula’s biggest 4th of July event – the Kids’ Parade, again presented by the Admiral Neighborhood Association, 10 am start along a neighborhood route that starts at 44th/Sunset [map], heads west a bit, then south, then east to Hamilton Viewpoint, where sack races, games, and food/treat trucks/carts await. No entry forms or RSVPs or entry fees for the parade – just show up (on foot or on human-powered wheels) and you’re part of it! The ANA also is still welcoming sponsors to help cover the costs of running the parade and post-and parade celebration – you can sign up here.

The car show is open to all vehicles, motorcycles, and even buses/vans that you would like to show off!
The show takes place Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12 pm-3:30 pm (with vehicle check-in starting at 11 am) at the West Seattle High School Parking Lot.

One last quick reminder – the 2026 West Seattle 5K is tomorrow morning (Sunday, May 17)! Runners, walkers, and rollers will leave the start/finish line at 61st/Alki around 9:30 am, and head toward the turnaround point by Anchor/Luna Park on Duwamish Head. Alki and Harbor Avenues will be closed from approximately 8 am to 11 am for the race, which is organized by the West Seattle High School PTSA as a fundraiser to bring in $ for programs supporting WSHS students. You can still register here and be in the 5K tomorrow morning; even if you don’t want to, come down to the beach and cheer for everyone who does! The West Seattle 5K has been a springtime tradition since 2009, and WSB has been among the community co-sponsors every year. (We’ll just be roaming for coverage, but many other sponsors will have booths, so say hi to your supportive local businesses while you’re at Alki!) Weather looks dry but chilly. See you there!
The “no parking” signs are up for this year’s West Seattle 5K, now just three days away, 9:30 am Sunday (May 17) along Alki, starting and finishing at 61st SW. Alki and Harbor Avenues will be closed for a few hours as the runners, walkers, and rollers take over the waterfront streets (the closure usually runs approximately 8-11 am). Not only is it a chance to enjoy the scenery as you run/walk/roll with more than a thousand of your neighbors, it’s also a financial boost for the West Seattle High School PTSA‘s support of programs for students – that’s why they’ve been coordinating the West Seattle 5K for more than a decade and a half!
