10:50 PM: A crash on the West Seattle low bridge right now is blocking eastbound traffic. Police have told dispatch that westbound is getting through. Nonetheless, it’s of extra note since the southbound 1st Avenue South Bridge is closed for overnight work (until 5 am). If you have to head this way soon, you might consider the South Park Bridge instead.
11:02 PM: After a short total closure, they’re reopening the low bridge to westbound traffic.

The next stage of work on the West Seattle Neighborhood Greenway has begun. Above is a crew that was out this morning on 42nd SW south of SW Edmunds, marking the future locations of speed humps. We went to check the area this morning after reader inquiries over the weekend about sets of no-parking signs placed at intervals along 42nd between Edmunds and Findlay (it’s been a while since construction notification was sent, and two months since our last update).
In addition to the speed humps on 42nd – which, signage indicates, are planned for the 4800, 5000, 5200, and 5400 blocks – work will finally be starting at 35th/Graham, where a new signal is planned as part of this phase. SDOT spokesperson Ethan Bergerson says that work “will not begin for another 2-3 weeks.”
BACKSTORY: Greenways are explained here. Here’s a map of the entire West Seattle Neighborhood Greenway route:
The greenway plan originally surfaced in tandem with Phase 2 of the 35th SW plan, almost five years ago. The “most promising route” was unveiled about a year later. An extension northward from The Junction to Admiral also has been discussed, but isn’t on the official map – we’re checking on its status. (Added: SDOT says design and planning are funded for that section, but not construction.)
ADDED 4 PM: Just received from SDOT (and just added to their project website), regarding the locations of all the speed humps that are part of Phase 2:
Approximate locations of speed humps (19 total) for West Seattle Greenway Phase 2

More sidewalk, repaving, and utility work is planned this week as the RapidRide H Line corridor preparation project continues on and near Delridge Way SW. The project team lists these as key points for the week ahead:
*Curbs and sidewalks continue to be installed throughout Zones A and B
*Demolition between SW Trenton St and SW Henderson St to begin next week, work will include roadway, sidewalk, and curb ramp upgrades

*Intersection demolition and restoration at SW Holden St and SW Kenyon St continues
The full bulletin for this week’s work is here.
Avoid 26th/106th for a while – deputies have the intersection blocked off until they clear a crash involving two vehicles, one on its side. No serious injuries.
8:17 PM: Thanks for the texted tip: Avoid California SW north of Fauntleroy Way for a while – two vehicles have collided. Only minor injuries, according to dispatch, and SFD has already closed out its involvement without sending a medic unit. We’re headed down the hill to check out the scene.
8:34 PM: The scene was already clearing as we arrived. Police confirmed no serious injuries. Traffic’s back to flowing through the area.
Thanks to Aaron for the tip. On Genesee Hill, SW Dakota is taped off just east of 55th SW [map] because of that pole. Police at the scene told us it was reported that a truck hit the pole and left the scene.

As we’ve been reporting, the southbound side of the state-owned 1st Avenue South Bridge has two overnight closures coming up this weekend, kicking off a week and a half of work. This Friday and Saturday night, that side of that bridge will be closed 9 pm-6 am, which is an hour beyond the usual open-to-all time for the city-owned West Seattle low bridge. So SDOT has just decided to add an extra hour of low-bridge access those nights – so Friday night into Saturday morning (March 5-6) and Saturday night into Sunday morning (March 6-7), the low bridge will be open to all 9 pm-6 am. No access change planned so far during the 1st Avenue South Bridge’s March 10-15 southbound lane closures, but SDOT has planned other support such as extra Seattle Response Team crews around the low bridge on those days.
6:12 AM: Good morning! Sunny forecast today, and temperatures that could reach the upper 50s.

2:10 PM: The photo is from Sam, who says those crews have just wrapped up their work for the day on Sylvan Way, two hours earlier than planned, so all lanes are now open.
