9:40 PM: Thanks for the tips. We’re still pursuing details of this crash at 35th and Brandon, south of Camp Long, but we do know the traffic disruption was fairly short-lived – medic crews cleared quickly after being dispatched around 8:50 pm. A tow truck’s already there.

9:49 PM: We’re checking with SFD on the driver’s condition. Reviewing the radio archives, dispatch told officers the driver might have had a medical problem.

6 AM: SFD says the driver, a 40-year-old man, was in stable condition when taken to a hospital.

As noted here a week ago, SDOT plans to replace the curb ramps on the southeast corner of California/Alaska. They originally told us the work would start this coming week, but now we have word they’re not expecting to start until Monday, July 27. The work, which will require lane closures, is expected to take a week or less. After the initial announcement, we asked SDOT why the curb ramps are being replaced. Their reply: “Adding new pushbutton posts prompted an inspection of the area. We found that the existing curb ramps weren’t compliant with current ADA standards and are replacing them.” The new pushbutton posts were installed last fall.

10:31 PM: For the second time today, a tree is reported to have fallen across the southbound – uphill – lanes of the Highland Park Way hill. Police are on the scene now and telling dispatch they have to close the entire SB side of the hill. Dispatch says SDOT is not able to immediately respond, so this closure might last a while.

10:38 PM: Police say they’ve had to close one northound lane too because it’s a “big tree.”

11:31 PM: Thanks to Kay for the update in comments, pointing out this is actually across the downhill lanes despite what the original radio exchanges said. Also, above is a screenshot from one of the SDOT cameras nearby.

MIDNIGHT: They’re still working on it. And Kay also points out that this is blocking the pedestrian path too.

12:57 AM: Live camera shows all lanes of the street back open.

11:15 AM: As the thunderstorms continue, 911 dispatch has just sent police to check out a tree reported down across Highland Park Way near Holden, blocking southbound (uphill) lanes.

11:48 AM: The closest live camera shows traffic moving in both directions at the bottom of the hill.

1:04 PM: No further word on that, but we’re adding word of another potential traffic hazard, barriers knocked out of alignment on the West Seattle Bridge. We can’t find evidence of a crash response today, but police asked for SDOT response crews to reset the barriers, which are apparently jutting into the eastbound lanes.

The ongoing King County Wastewater Treatment District project to reduce overflows into the Duwamish River will require work “to learn about conditions below ground,” and part of it means work on and near West Marginal Way SW (areas shown on map above) starting this week, per this alert just circulated:

-Expect temporary lane closures with at least one lane open for vehicles. Crews will clean sites and reopen lanes once work is complete.

-Daytime work will start as early as (today) and continue for up to seven weeks. Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

-Crews will work for one night along West Marginal Way Southwest, between Southwest Spokane Street and Southwest Idaho Street. Work will start at 6 p.m. and end at 6 a.m. the next day.

-Work will take place on West Marginal Way Southwest between Chelan Avenue Southwest and Southwest Idaho Street. Crews may work at one to three sites at a time, for up to two days per site.

9:48 AM: As initially mentioned in our traffic roundup, emergency crews are at the scene of a crash on Admiral Way east of Schmitz Park. A bicyclist and vehicle driver are reported to have collided. A texter says Admiral is currently blocked both ways.

10 AM: We haven’t heard an update on the rider’s condition but the log indicates they’re being taken to the hospital, so we’ll add followup information from SFD when available.

10:22 AM: SFD’s Kaila Lafferty tells WSB that the rider is a man in his early 50s who was in stable condition when taken to the hospital.

The sixth and final FIFA World Cup match in Seattle is over – and that means the road-work pause on certain Seattle streets (as shown on this map) is too. Here’s the reminder from SDOT:

Beginning Tuesday, July 7, construction activity on many Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) projects will resume on many city streets and sidewalks following the temporary pause that helped keep Seattle moving during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

As projects restart, people traveling around Seattle should expect to see more work zones, lane shifts, and temporary traffic revisions in some areas. We encourage everyone to plan ahead, allow extra travel time where construction is underway, and travel carefully through active work zones.

WHAT TRAVELERS SHOULD KNOW:

As construction resumes, everyone can help keep Seattle moving safely by:

-Following posted signs, detours, and traffic control.
-Allowing extra travel time where construction is underway.
-Slowing down and watching for construction workers, as well as people walking, rolling, and biking near work zones.
-Planning ahead before heading out.

Drivers should also be aware that the first weekend after construction resumes coincides with Revive I-5 work, which is expected to increase traffic on nearby streets and detour routes.

Thank you to everyone who helped make Seattle’s first FIFA World Cup a success. The temporary construction pause helped keep people and goods moving during one of the busiest periods in the city’s history.

As projects resume, we appreciate your continued patience and care as crews work to deliver transportation improvements that will benefit Seattle for years to come.

One West Seattle project affected by the pause was the Morgan Junction EV-charging lot – while work has continued on the lot itself, the related dig on Fauntleroy Way had to be put on hold.
