Quick update from SDOT on the Admiral Way Bridges work, one week after our previous update – spokesperson Mariam Ali messaged us this morning to say, “Just wanted to give you a heads up that we should be mostly done with this project by Labor Day.” Does that include Fairmount Avenue reopening beneath the bridge? She said yes. As our photo above shows, the original projection for that reopening was six months ago; SDOT says scope expansion, such as added painting, stretched out the timeline for the project.

5:01 PM: There’s no formal traffic alert about it yet but the low bridge is closed for surface traffic – bicycle traffic in particular is backing up – and a texter says it’s been closed for more than 20 minutes. We’re checking with SDOT.
5:09 PM: Just got this reply, “There is an issue and maintenance in the way. Don’t know ETA on reopening and what the issue is. It is stuck.” It was already set to be shut down all next weekend (starting at 7 am Saturday, August 23) for work to repair a part that SDOT explains “controls how fast the bridge opens.”
5:19 PM: The live camera shows the bicyclists are going around the bridge gates. Not an option for the motor-vehicle drivers, who are turning around to leave the bridge.
6:40 PM: Not fixed yet and no ETA from SDOT yet.
9:40 PM: Open again. We’ll follow up tomorrow on the cause.

Thanks to Cindi for the pic and tip. We don’t know how much longer they’ll be there, but a utility crew has blocked off the outside southbound lane of 35th just past Findlay and is working in a hole in the street. That’s several blocks north of where the street becomes one lane each way, so give yourself extra time if you’re heading that way.

1:34 PM: Thanks for the tip. Police and fire have responded to a crash at Highland Park Way and West Marginal Way, and are reporting that the scene has traffic blocked both ways. Avoid the area for a while. (We don’t know which leg of the intersection is affected – those shown on SDOT cameras appear to still be moving.)

Late summer is busy for road crews, trying to get work done before fall arrives. We’ve been including reminders in our daily traffic etc. roundups about White Center road work toward the end of this week. There’s more, according to this alert today from King County Road Services:
Overnight Lane Restrictions:
SW Roxbury St between 26th Ave SW & 15th Ave SW and 15th/16th Ave from Roxbury to SW 110th St
8/13 – White Center
Crews will reduce traffic to a single lane throughout the project limits on SW Roxbury St between 26th Ave SW and 15th Ave SW and on 15th/16th Ave from Roxbury to SW 110th St for crosswalk striping.
Work will take place overnight on Wed. Aug. 13, from 8 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on Thurs. Aug. 14. Striping is a moving operation – flaggers will direct traffic. Expect delays.
This is related to the ongoing curb-ramp work that county crews have been doing in the same area.

2:54 PM: Police are checking out another fallen tree – this one “blocking the whole roadway” in the 9400 block of 11th SW [map]. It reportedly has hit some utility lines too, though no outages are reported in the area yet.
Meantime, we don’t know if this is still an issue, but Karen messaged us to report what appeared to be a large tree limb blocking eastbound Barton west of 35th as of about an hour ago. We’re off to check on that.

1:40 PM: This has been going on a while but just hit our radar with a WSP tweet that the northbound I-5 ramp to the westbound West Seattle Bridge is still blocked and will be for a while because of that sideways truck. If you are south of here and have to head north, you’ll need to find an alternative.
2:22 PM: Thanks to John, who just sent that view of the attempt to right the sideways truck/trailer. WSDOT says it’s upright now but still needs to be towed.
3:05 PM UPDATE: Open again.
8:43 AM: Paul reports a crash at 40th/Oregon has closed the street and diverted traffic.
