5:29 AM: The crash scene is east of 99. Only crash on the SFD log was near the 4th Avenue exit just after 2 am,

5:39 AM: Police have just reopened the eastbound bridge. … According to archived police radio, SFD closed the entire bridge aroun 3:40 am for safety reasons – because “multiple vehicles” passing the scene pre-closure almost hit them.

7:09 AM: An SFD spokesperson just told us “there were no patients” at the scene. So we’re still trying to solve the mystery of why one fire unit was there for two hours.

7:33 AM: SFD spokesperson Kaila Lafferty elaborates, “It was a non-injury collision but the vehicle was not able to move. The crew was at the collision site until SPD was able to respond so they could hand the scene over. The crew ended up blocking lanes for safety due to the high rate of speed drivers kept passing the incident.”

In case you missed the mention in our traffic/weather roundup, the full schedule is out for the second wave of northbound 1st Avenue South Bridge repairs to cracked steel deck plates. Here’s WSDOT‘s announcement, which includes word of shuttles for bicycle riders and pedestrians:

Up to three lanes will close across the northbound SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge starting at 9 p.m. each night beginning as early as Monday, May 4, through Friday morning, May 8, to set up a work zone. All lanes will reopen across the bridge each morning by 5 a.m.

All northbound lanes across the SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge will close for bridge repairs:

-From 10 p.m. Friday, May 8, until 5 a.m. Monday, May 11.
-From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night Monday, May 11, until Friday morning, May 15 and Monday, May 18, until Friday morning, May 22.
-Additional night or weekend closures are possible depending on the pace of bridge repairs. …

What people can expect
Signed detours will guide northbound SR 509/SR 99 traffic around the bridge closure. Congestion is likely and people should use northbound Interstate 5 or other alternate routes during construction.

The First Avenue South Bridge Trail also will close during these times. Accessible shuttle vans operating from signed locations north and south of the bridge will carry pedestrians and cyclists around the work zone.

Maritime traffic under the First Avenue South Bridge will be restricted during construction. Vessels requiring the bridge to open must provide 24-hour notice and confirm their arrival two hours beforehand. These U.S. Coast Guard restrictions will remain in place through June 30, 2026.

Three-phase bridge repair strategy
WSDOT developed a three-phase repair plan after inspectors identified cracks in the steel grid bridge deck in February 2026.

WSDOT crews completed Phase 1 repairs in March 2026 during a five-day closure of the bridge. These initial repairs allowed all northbound lanes to reopen across the bridge at a temporary reduced speed limit.

Phase 2 repairs begin Friday night, May 8, and last roughly 30 days. Contractor crews working for WSDOT will replace nine 28-by-9-foot steel deck panels. Once complete, all northbound lanes across the SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge will reopen at normal speeds.

The emergency contract for Phase 2 repairs was awarded to C.A. Carey of Issaquah. The estimated cost is $1.3 million.

Phase 3 repairs will replace remaining steel grid deck plates on the northbound SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge. This work is in the design phase and is currently scheduled for the 2027 construction season.

8:15 PM: Motorcycle-involved crash reported at Fauntleroy and Raymond, partly blocking southbound.

8:26 PM: Police say the rider was not seriously hurt and the road should reopen shortly.

1:52 PM: Police have told dispatch that Delridge is currently blocked both ways at Henderson by the response for what was reported as a driver/scooter rider collision. The rider, described as in his mid-60s, was injured. No other details but avoid the area for a while.

2:01 PM: Short-lived closure – officers say Delridge is now open again both ways. We’ll check with SFD on the rider’s condition.

3:27 PM: SFD tells us the 64-year-old rider was taken to the hospital by AMR ambulance, in stable condition.

11 AM: A texter tells us 37th SW and SW 100th in Arbor Heights are blocked by the aftermath of a crash, and while SFD is there tending to a driver, police (who are having a busy morning, judging by radio exchanges) haven’t arrived yet. The texter says it’s reported to be a hit-run, with a driver running a stop sign and hitting another car. We don’t have a description.

11:45 AM: Our photographer got there just as the damaged vehicle was about to be towed so the road could reopen.

7:16 AM: That was the view from the West Seattle Bridge traffic cam a few minutes ago as the first riders in Cascade Bicycle Club’s Emerald City Ride rode across the westbound bridge, which is closed to motorized vehicles for the ride, first one in two years. The riders are continuing on to a West Seattle shoreline route (see it here). The eastbound bridge remains open to regular traffic, and the westbound side is scheduled to reopen by 9 am.

7:32 AM: Riders continue crossing; as the most-recent screenshot shows above, some are pausing at the crest (the outside lane is coned off0, to rest and/or admire the view.

8:01 AM: Westbound riers are still crossing the bridge.

9 AM: The bridge has reopened to regular traffic.

9:43 AM: The return route is via the bike/foot path on the low bridge, seeing a surge of riders right now because that bridge just reopened to surface traffic after a vessel closure.

1:48 AM: Police are at the scene of a crash in the 4000 block of West Marginal Way, reported to have damaged a utility pole and taken down live wires, ending up on railroad tracks. Nobody was in the vehicle – reported to be a Toyota 4Runner – when police arrived, but they’ve just found one of the apparent occupants a few blocks north and are looking for the other one nearby.

7:46 AM: Archived radio communication indicates officers found the suspected driver walking on Puget Ridge around 3 am.

8:31 PM: A parking-enforcement officer is reported to be one of two drivers involved in a collision currently blocking California SW and SW Graham in Morgan Junction. According to another responding officer, no one is hurt, but neither vehicle is driveable, so this might not clear quickly.

10:50 AM: Thanks for the tip. You can’t head west on Oregon from westbound Fauntleroy right now – a couple blocks of westbound Oregon are closed for road work. Eastbound Oregon is open, though.

1:49 PM: Looking up an entirely unrelated story, we found this comment from about four months ago about a longrunning steel plate there.

Metro buses – Regular schedules.

West Seattle Water Taxi – Now on “summer” schedule, which means extra Friday/Saturday/Sunday runs including later-night runs tonight and Saturday.

Washington State Ferries – Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth route still on a two-boat schedule with a third, unscheduled boat. Check WSF’s alert page for last-minute changes.
