10:39 PM: Police are dealing with another crash toward the Fauntleroy Way end of the West Seattle Bridge right now. Police are reporting the barrier pushed out of alignment again – we’re not sure which side the crash happened on, but the barrier is reported to be a hazard on the eastbound side. The vehicle reported to be involved was described as a Ford Ranger. No injuries reported, as SFD has not been dispatched.
(Image posted by commenter SeaKev)
10:58 PM: If you’re using that end of the bridge any time soon, note that there are short shutdowns as they reset the barrier (again).
11:25 PM: Officers have just told dispatch that all lanes are now open.
7:01 PM: Police have told dispatch that SW Alaska is closed both ways at 36th SW because of a collision. A pedestrian is reported to be hurt, described as a head injury, hit by a vehicle estimated to have been going 20 mph, and SFD medics are on scene. Avoid the area for a while.
7:14 PM: The injured pedestrian will be taken to Harborview Medical Center.
10:46 PM: SFD tells WSB that the pedestrian is a 74-year-old man who was in serious condition when transported.
10:37 PM: SFD and SPD are headed for what’s been dispatched as a reported “four or five vehicle” crash on the westbound West Seattle Bridge near the Delridge exit, with one car “rolled over” and possibly on fire. Updates to come.
10:43 PM: Responders are arriving and telling dispatch this is closer to the Fauntleroy end. They’re also going to block westbound traffic until the fire is out, diverting drivers onto the Delridge exit. And they’re describing the burning car as on its side rather than totally flipped.
10:52 PM: Police now tell dispatch they’re not able to divert traffic off at Delridge, but hope to reopen 1 westbound lane past the crash scene in 10 minutes or so, “once SFD clears.”
11:09 PM: Just added a reader-texted photo (thank you!). The texter also says it was a one-car collision, with the other vehicles initially reported as involved actually having stopped to help. Meantime, firefighters have just told dispatch that the fire is out and one lane will, as promised, reopen momentarily.
11:36 PM: There may be another temporary delay in the area as the center barriers have to be reset after getting knocked out of alignment in the crash. Meantime, this video of what the car fire looked like from the north end of Delridge was posted by Cami MacNamara:

Thanks for the tips. As announced, SDOT switched the traffic flow on the Admiral Way Bridge(s) again today – now it’s one outside lane each way, inside lanes blocked off for the next phase of the earthquake-resistance strengthening project. As also planned, the temporary crosswalk at 39th SW/Admiral Way has been removed as part of the change.
And Fairmount Avenue beneath the bridge remains closed until the end of construction, which SDOT says might not be until early summer.

3:47 PM: Thanks to Tim for the photos! That tree is proof that when the ground is as saturated as it is now, winds don’t have to be gusting for trees to topple. It’s down at 22nd/Barton [map], and the police dispatch indicates it’s blocking the street.
No injuries reported.
4:15 PM: Police say 22nd is blocked between Barton and Kelsey Lane [map], and the tree isn’t likely to be cleared quickly. Also, “live wires” are down.
5:30 PM: According to a radio exchange, Seattle City Light has completed work with the wires and given the green light to SDOT to come in and deal with the tree.
8:48 PM: We haven’t heard the “all clear” yet but Tim sent that photo of SDOT getting close to completion of tree cleanup about 45 minutes ago.
7:36 PM: The eastbound West Seattle Bridge is moving slowly right now by the exit for Highway 99 because two lanes are blocked by the response for what’s reported to be a one-vehicle crash. If you have to head that way, an alternate route is recommended, or wait a while until it’s cleared.
8:13 PM: Police have just told dispatch that “the bridge is back open.” We’re asking SFD about injuries.
6:03 AM: Good morning! Welcome to Friday, December 27th.

(Reader photo from Mark after crosswalk’s installation in August)
As we’ve been reporting, today was the day SDOT said it would switch traffic flow again across the Admiral Way Bridge, as the earthquake-strengthening project continues, while also removing the temporary crosswalk at 39th SW. Project spokesperson Matthew Howard just sent word of a change:
The work we originally had planned for December 19-20 on the Admiral Way bridge will not occur. The new date for the traffic shift will occur on Tuesday, December 31, 2024.
When we transition into our third phase of traffic control on December 31, the two center lanes on Admiral Way SW will be closed during this phase, with one lane in each direction open for people driving. As part of this transition, the temporary crosswalk at Admiral Way SW and 39th Ave SW will be removed.
SDOT doesn’t expect the project to be fully completed before summer.

ROAD WORK/CLOSURES
*The Admiral Way Bridge seismic project continues; the south half of the bridge is closed, with one lane each way on the north side. SDOT expects crews to change that today: “We’ll be transitioning into our third phase of traffic control on December 19. The two center lanes on Admiral Way SW will be closed during this phase, with one lane in each direction open for people driving. As part of this transition, the temporary crosswalk at Admiral Way SW and 39th Ave SW will be removed.”
*The Delridge pedestrian-bridge earthquake-safety project also continues, with narrowing at Delridge/Oregon. SDOT recently provided an update, with word of a lane shift.
*Beach Drive gas-pipeline work continues into January, PSE tells us – here’s our latest update.

MORE TRAFFIC CAMS: All functioning traffic cams citywide are here; West Seattle and vicinity-relevant cameras are on this WSB page.
See trouble on the bridges/streets/paths/water? Please text or call our hotline (when you can do it safely, and after you’ve reported to authorities if they’re not already on scene) – 206-293-6302. Thank you!
1:33 PM: Thanks for the tips – multiple readers say the low bridge has been closed to traffic for at least 45 minutes. We’re checking with SDOT.
1:54 PM: SDOT has now issued an alert: “Technical issues on the Lower Spokane St Bridge blocking traffic in both directions. Use alternate routes.”
2:15 PM: Live camera shows traffic moving again both ways on the low bridge. We’re waiting to hear from SDOT regarding the source of the latest problems.
