UPDATE: Crash on eastbound West Seattle Bridge

7:36 PM: The eastbound West Seattle Bridge is moving slowly right now by the exit for Highway 99 because two lanes are blocked by the response for what’s reported to be a one-vehicle crash. If you have to head that way, an alternate route is recommended, or wait a while until it’s cleared.

8:13 PM: Police have just told dispatch that “the bridge is back open.” We’re asking SFD about injuries.

This 3 mile or more stretch of roadway “West Seattle Bridge” is basically one long narrow on and off ramp with almost no shoulder, place to pull off. Driver’s are increasingly speeding along this narrow multi ramp structure. Please slow down and give plenty of space to drivers.

And in many cases they are speeding with rain and wet roads:/

I will keep an open mind and wait for actual facts and not do a knee jerk reaction that any, all, every accident is caused by ‘speeding’.

Go ahead and drive speed limit on the bridge in either direction. You will notice you are the only one and other drivers speeding past you. Although an assumption that speeding was involved, it’s a pretty safe one.

In most case it is a contributing factorOpen mind or nit

Overwhelmingly single car crashes are due to excessive speed for the conditions whether or not alcohol, other drugs and cell phones were a factor.   Yes, there are medical emergencies and  mechanical breakdowns that  occasionally, but rarely, occur
Most of all on WSB, we will hear from local experts on pavement design and deficiencies.

You can easily find this information online. No need to ask someone to do it for you.

KM. I realize that.  Just responding to the “I know the cause but actually I have no idea” commenter. Blaming/claiming speed is the only cause of accidents might give you a warm feeling but does not reflect the real world or make anything better.
