Yes, Seattle is expensive, but adjusted for the local cost of living, Metro pays it’s transit drivers and mechanics higher than any other peer west coast city and 28% higher than the average.

Hello. I recently had a baby and find myself unable to care for my dog at the moment. I had originally planned to have a nanny who would walk him twice a day but she quit – the day before I was to return to work! :( I had to scramble to put my daughter in daycare and it is so expensive I can no longer afford to pay a dog walker.

I’m looking for someone that would be willing to walk him (mornings before 7am or evenings between 4 and 8pm), or who would want to take him in for a stretch of time (a few weeks or a few months). (We live near Westwood Village.)

He’s a black lab mix and a 90lb lap dog. He craves love and attention and will want to cuddle and be near whoever takes him in. He’s almost 5 years old so not the bundle of energy he used to be, but he is still very active. He’d be a great running partner, or would love for someone to just throw the ball and play fetch or go swimming.

He is very well trained and has never, ever chewed anything up. I give him free reign of the house while I’m gone and nothing has ever happened. And he’s a great guard dog! Anyone who takes him in should be aware that he does have aggression towards un-neutered male dogs. He didn’t get neutered until he I adopted him at 2 years old and I think he’s just got too much testosterone in him. He’s also not great in big pack situations so I don’t take him to dog parks. He’s great with one or two dogs if he gets to know them, and he’s great with little dogs and cats. He gets along great with larger dogs if they aren’t super alpha, and he loves to play.

I want to stress that I want to get him back. If I was going to give him up entirely I would return him to the rescue organization I got him from. I’m just looking for a temporary solution until I can give him the exercise and attention he deserves. If it’s feasible logistically, I’d love to visit him once in awhile while someone is taking care of him for me. I’m also willing to pay for his food, treats and vet care.

The UW coaches salaries are obscene. However, with the messed up ways of college sports, it isn’t financially impactful to the university in a negative way.

The problem with the Metro salaries and benefits is that it is directly impacting the level of service the county can provide. Year after year Metro has let their transit operating costs per hour rise a few points above inflation. Over time, it’s really added up. See the inflation adjusted “cost per transit hour” over the last 13 years.

Adjusted for inflation, Metro’s cost per hour of service has risen 15% since 2000 despite all the cuts they’ve claimed. Th increased cost of fuel maybe explains 3 – 4% of that. The bigger driver is the increase in wages and benefits, despite Metro already paying wages that are among the highest among in the country (the study below is a few years old, but still relevant).

I’m not suggesting people should vote no on this proposition, but I am suggesting we shouldn’t give the agency a free pass. Even a yes vote won’t fix this problem. Metro will come back for more again or threaten service cuts in a few years unless they address their cost underlying issues.

Laid-back 5yo male kitty needs new home

Riley is searching for a forever home. He is a sweet, laid-back, loving kitty that needs a new home. He came to me as a foster kitty for a friend who had gotten a job in another country and needed to rehome him. Riley originally came with his best buddy, but his buddy got sick and passed away, leaving only Riley :(. Now Riley needs to find a new home, where he can have a new best friend to boss him around and love on him.

He would do best in a home where he has a dominate cat to boss him around (preferably an older male) and a female owner for daily scritches (he hasn’t been around very many men and is very shy/hesitant with the ones he has met). Riley is a total cuddle kitty and likes to lay on your chest for his daily loves. He would prefer a home where he can be an indoor/outdoor cat or have a deck to lay on.

His favorite activities are playing with his mice, licking catnip off his mice and getting his head scratched.

Riley would do fine in a home with a dog or children. He has been around a small dog and they were fine within a week. He has a very laid back personality and a high tolerance for rough play.

The kitty-gritty

Riley is a 5yo, neutered, short haired black male. He has been microchipped (I do not know the number though). He has had his shots / rabies but not in a few years, so he’ll need boosters. He uses a covered litter box with a liner, w/ clay or pine litter ( hates pellets). If he doesn’t feel that you are keeping his litter box clean enough he will pee in your bathtub right over the drain. He had a urinary blockage in 2011, which was treated and has not reoccurred. He is currently on Royal Canine Indoor Light 50 cat food (avail. at Petco or PetPros) to loose some weight. He is a food hound and loves wet food (which he gets once in a blue moon) and Greenies. His favorite toy are mice and he will bring them into the bathroom so he can bat them around better on the slick tile. He is very mellow and will let you easily brush him or trim his front claws (back ones are a bit of a struggle). He comes with a harness, toy mice and some food (litter box can be included if you need it).

Now, He’s asking $1200.00/mo, which is a few hundred above your limit, however, the rent includes utilities, including electric which is usually separate, as well as basic cable, and high-speed partitioned internet.

He claims all of that included would bring the actual rent down to about $975.00, so if you can stretch another $125.00 or so per month, over your current top limit, that might work out for you.

I’m curious if these are the young men that folks are seeing. They came through my neighborhood on Friday around 5pm. They knocked on my door and when I pointed out that they ignored my “No Solicitors” sign and were not displaying identification as the City requires, they grew aggressive and abusive. As they were leaving my property a neighbor was going out to his car and they accosted him in the driveway. When he didn’t want to talk with them I saw one of them turn and make a lewd gesture in his direction. So I reported them to the SPD non-emergency number. The police responded very quickly. They detained and questioned these two men for more than an hour. I don’t know the outcome but I was hoping that hassle would have given them an incentive to move their scam elsewhere. It would be disheartening if they were right back on the same beat a few days later.

Not only are these guys not operating under the rules established by the City, but they actually may be scamming people out of their hard-earned money, or worse, casing houses and collecting financial information for credit fraud. They’re also eroding the credibility of legitimate door-to-door canvassers (for political causes and certified charities). Until people stop engaging with these people and stop giving them money, I’m afraid this activity is going to continue.
