DrGonzoParticipantWe’re looking for a vet for our cat. He’s a healthy guy who just needs his teeth cleaned, but our previous vet won’t see us for a dental appointment until he’s updated on all of the vaccinations they recommend (we can never get out of their office without spending $250+). The thing is, that’s not really the way we do things. We’re more of the “bring your cat to the vet when he’s sick, and leave him alone when he’s healthy” set. We love him, feed him good food, cuddle him, clean him, but have felt judged at the previous vet for not wanting to do as much preventative care as they recommend. Are we alone in this? We’d really like a vet who will work with us and would love a recommendation.

KameMemberSouth Seattle Veterinary Hospital. It’s on 1st ave in North Burien area, so not W.S. but not far either. They even have a coupon on their website for teeth cleaning. I totally get what your saying. We didn’t give our cat vaccines anymore after the first couple of years and she lived outdoor almost always and ended up living a long healthy life.

mehud7ParticipantSouth Seattle Vet is used by many local rescues as they are drop in, open 24 hours a day, and 7 days a week. If your cat just needs a teeth cleaning, you should be fine. Extractions are another story, but still much less expensive at SS Vet than other clinics.

pennidoggParticipantI love Highline Vet Hospital, 13060 1st Ave S, Burien, WA 98168, (206) 243-2900. Dr. Roxanne is a great vet, she took over from her father and I find her to be very practical and less expensive than others here in West Seattle.

dhgParticipantThere is a direct correlation between the amount of glass and steel in the building and the prices set by the vet.

CandrewB1ParticipantHaving two cats and a dog I am in the same boat. The cats are always OK, but the dog has had cancer four times so things get pricey fast. I have left two places and will be going to a fourth the next go around. I have discussed this with many friends from around the area and it is pretty consistent; if you live in a decent real estate market, you will overpay for vet services. And, they will throw in a bit of guilt for bringing cost into the discussion.

hammerheadParticipantI also recommend South Seattle vet.
CandrewB1 have you looked into natural/homopathic care for your dog?
My friend/Vet has opened a new center that works with animals and humans.
I would highly recommend checking it out.
Never having an animal have cancer, I have to assume costs vary like a bag or fluids or even a simple vaccine?
Good luck.

DrGonzoParticipantThanks for all of the great suggestions. We’ve scheduled an appointment at South Seattle Veterinary Hospital, and I’ll update the thread if there is anything worth noting.
