Del GriffithParticipantHey Everyone – Just want to mention a West Seattle gem VERY few people know about. Did you know West Seattle has a real lighthouse?! It’s true. I came across it on a walk recently. It’s near a stretch of public water front access near Alkey. After discovering the lighthouse, almost everyone I approached didn’t know about it, (or didn’t want to talk to me about it). How lucky are we?! If anyone wants to meet me there to look at the lighthouse, let me know.
PLEASE pass this tip onto fellow Western Seattle folks. It’d be a shame to live here and not ever know about it, like me. And I’ve lived here for 9 years!

MrsLMemberThe lighthouse has public tours Saturday and Sunday in the summer. Check it out here:

It’s pretty neat.

WSBKeymasterHey, Del! The Alki Lighthouse is a somewhat hidden gem, but we mention it and show it here relatively often. Last year there was a special event – its 100th anniversary – we had several stories including this one with some great history and a few photos:
As MrsL mentioned, there are weekend tours in summertime; we haven’t received the official announcement yet but are glad it has the webpage she mentioned, as for many years there was NO web mention, no official announcement, you just sort of had to stumble into it, maybe noticing a flyer on the gate or something!
