11:52 AM: Thanks to Al for the photo and report – the emergency response at Admiral/46th is for a collision involving a driver and pedestrians. No major injuries but one person is being taken to a hospital by private ambulance. We’ll check with SFD for condition info shortly.

2:30 PM: SFD info on the victims: “24-year-old male evaluated, and did not require transport. Approx. 49-year-old female transported via AMR to area hospital in stable condition.”

UPDATE: Car-on-side crash in southeast West Seattle

3:57 PM: Big Seattle Fire response on the way to 1st Ave. S. and Myers Way S. [map] SFD says the report is a crash involving a vehicle on its side in the northbound lanes.

4 PM: SFD says extrication isn’t needed after all and has downsized the call. Avoid the area for a while, though.

4:18 PM: Added a photo of the scene – no sidewalks, no place to pull over, so that’s as close as our crew could get. One NB lane is getting by (downhill) and the SB (uphill) lanes are unaffected.

4:50 PM: Just went back to check – scene’s now completely clear.

8:16 AM: Big Seattle Fire response for a two-vehicle crash on Delridge south of Thistle. Though the initial call classification was “rescue extrication,” SFD says everyone’s out safely and being assessed for injuries.

8:28 AM: Photo added. Our crew says three vehicles are involved. One person is being taken to the hospital. Delridge remains blocked just south of Thistle.

UPDATE: Flipped-car crash at Alki/Harbor

1:44 PM: Big emergency response headed for what’s reported to be a flipped-car crash at Alki/Harbor. Updates to come.

1:49 PM: This is right at Duwamish Head. Reader photo added (thank you!). SFD says two vehicles were involved, everyone is out and being assessed for injuries. Avoid the area – road is currently blocked both ways.

2:08 PM: SFD says two people have minor injuries.

2:16 PM: Our photographer has arrived and sent photos of both vehicles – the one that flipped (above) has already been turned right-side up by the towing crew. They report one of the injured people is being taken to a hospital via private ambulance. Police say they’re investigating whether this is the result of one driver crossing the line into opposite-direction traffic.

If you are wondering about the helicopter, just TV. This should be cleared before too long.

UPDATE: Firefighters rescue man from ravine on Puget Ridge

2:31 PM: Seattle Fire has a “rope rescue” callout in the 4700 block of 21st SW [map] right now. It’s described as “a male who fell down a ravine around 4 a.m. this morning, and needs assistance getting out.” SFD is working on a plan for that.

2:50 PM: SFD is using Rescue 1 for a “low-angle rescue.”

3:25 PM: The operation is wrapping up. We are hoping to find someone still at the scene so we can get an update on the rescued person’s status.

3:43 PM: The last crews were leaving as we arrived so we just got details from SFD spokesperson Kristin Tinsley. She tells us the man, 30ish, fell ended up in the ravine while out for a walk. He managed to climb a tree. Neighbors heard him yelling for help this afternoon. Police responded and called in SFD, which pulled him 50 feet upslope in a basket. He was taken to Harborview in stable condition.

UPDATE: Crash cleanup on Admiral Way

ORIGINAL REPORT, 2:48 AM SUNDAY: An SDOT crew is being summoned for a cleanup on westbound Admiral Way near 37th SW for debris from a crash. Radio communication indicated a driver went into a yard and then left the scene on foot; police reportedly caught up with a suspect nearby, at 39th and Admiral.

UPDATE, MONDAY NIGHT: According to online records, the 20-year-old driver is under investigation for DUI and criminal hit-run.

UPDATE: Flipped-car crash on Harbor Avenue

8:21 PM: The big Seattle Fire response is for what SFD reports as a flipped-car crash in the 3200 block of Harbor SW. Everybody’s reported to be out of the vehicle and being evaluated/treated for injuries.

8:25 PM: Photo added (thanks!). Police are reported to have Harbor blocked off both ways in the 3200 block.

8:47 PM: Police say the driver was headed toward the bridge, hit the median, car flipped and took down the pole shown above. The driver had one passenger; no serious injuries reported.

11:39 PM: The road has reopened.

3:07 PM: Seattle Fire has sent a sizable water-rescue response to Alki, by land and sea, with some units at Don Armeni too. We haven’t yet heard any details on the call but we’re headed that way.

3:17 PM: One radio exchange has since mentioned kayaker(s) possibly in trouble off Alki Point.

3:19 PM: And another has mentioned two kayakers and one paddleboarder who have been assisted by the Coast Guard.

3:33 PM: We’ve confirmed with firefighters as they got ready to leave Alki that everyone is OK.

9:26 PM: A big response is headed to Alki/62nd SW (land and sea) for what was dispatched as a possible kayaker in trouble.

9:30 PM: Some units are being sent to Seacrest/Don Armeni, the usual rendezvous point if someone needs to be brought to shore for medical attention.

9:35 PM: Kayaker’s been found, per SFD, and is being helped to get to shore. A medic unit will be sent to the beach.

UPDATE: Pedestrian hit by driver on Admiral Way

9:25 AM: Emergency responders are on westbound Admiral Way near 57th. We’re told a pedestrian was hit by a person driving a pickup truck. Seattle Police Traffic Collision Investigation detectives will be investigating. More shortly.

9:30 AM: Don Brubeck, who lives nearby, tells us the pedestrian is a man in his 80s who “was crossing the street to catch the bus to go to his gym.” He was conscious as medics were treating him, Don says. The driver, who was in the black pickup shown in our photo, is talking with police.

10:18 AM: SFD spokesperson Kristin Tinsley says the pedestrian is “approximately 70 years old” and was in serious condition when taken to the hospital. Meantime, TCI is on scene, and the westbound side is blocked – they’re expected to be there until noon or so:

While this stretch of the street was part of the Admiral Way Safety Project, the 57th SW intersection is one where “left turn access” was kept, the SDOT map on the project page (which also shows the bus stop) notes.

About the fireboats off Alki

Just checked out a “marine service response” call that dispatched multiple fireboats to Alki and this is what we found: They’re assisting with a stuck sailboat off 57th/Alki. No medical component to the call, so no injuries so far as we know.

UPDATE: Woman hit and killed on SW Barton by Westwood Village

9:39 AM: SW Barton is closed at Westwood Village and likely to remain so for a few hours. Police are investigating after a person was hit and seriously injured by a person driving a pickup truck. The Traffic Collision Investigation Squad is coming out and the area’s being taped off.

9:49 AM: The victim is a woman; the driver is a man; no ages yet but both are believed to be over 50. We don’t know her condition yet; he appears unhurt and is being questioned by police.

10:08 AM: Added a photo of the pickup showing the location where the driver came to a stop. Our crew says that’s a bag of groceries visible beneath the truck.

10:15 AM: SFD spokesperson Kristin Tinsley says the woman, believed to be about 60 years old, was taken to Harborview in critical condition.

11:40 AM: According to a Metro alert, the scene has reopened to traffic. No further updates on the victim so far.

10:42 AM THURSDAY: We noted in comments last night that all indications were that the victim did not survive. This morning, a commenter identifying themselves as a relative confirms it.

UPDATE: Flipped-car crash just off Delridge

12:50 AM: SFD has sent one engine to a crash reported at Orchard/Dumar, just off Delridge. According to a tipster and police radio, it involves a flipped car, in the shrubbery by the Shell station. That’s the only vehicle reported involved. One person is reported to be hurt.

2:16 PM: SPD is investigating this as possible DUI. A 24-year-old man was arrested and booked into the King County Jail, according to online records.

UPDATE: Flipped-car crash on Highland Park Way

9:20 PM: Seattle Fire is downsizing the “rescue extrication” response that was dispatched minutes ago to Highland Park Way near SW Portland [map]. But one vehicle’s reported “on its roof.” We’re en route.

9:36 PM: Photo added above. The flipped car is one of two involved. Trying to confirm radio communication indicating one was parked. No serious injuries reported.

9:42 PM: Police tell us that the flipped car was parked when the person driving another car hit it. (added below – photo of that other car)

They confirm no serious injuries, no one taken to the hospital. Highland Park Way is closed at the crash scene right now.

10:25 PM: Per police radio, Highland Park Way is reopening, both directions.

UPDATE: Driver to hospital after Arbor Heights collision that damaged house

11:27 AM: The “rescue extrication” response is headed for 39th SW/SW 106th [map], and the dispatch was for a reported “vehicle into a building.” Updates to come.

11:30 AM: First SFD crew on scene reports crash into tree. SFD says no extrication necessary, occupant got themselves out.

11:38 AM: Just added a photo. Our crew says this pickup is in the yard of a house closer to 37th SW than 39th and that the driver appears to be OK. SFD says there are “reports of a second patient near scene.” We’re checking on that.

11:50 AM: Our crew talked to a witness who also noted that a second vehicle was involved, and our crew has found that one:

The driver of this vehicle is OK but after evaluation, our crew says, it appears the pickup driver will be taken to a hospital. Avoid the area, by the way – police are NOT there yet to direct traffic so SFD is doing what it can.

12:38 PM: Firefighters had to shore up the deck area damaged According to a witness with whom we spoke, the pickup driver hit the other car while trying to get through a narrow section o street, then lost control.

A commenter says the pickup driver went through three yards before ending up on the deck.

12:29 AM: No serious injuries; the driver was out even before SFD arrived, and they’d already departed before we arrived at the scene. The car is blocking SW Thistle just west of 37th SW. Photo added.

10:51 AM: The log notation this morning shows this incident is under investigation as DUI.

8:16 PM: Hearing the sirens? Big SFD response on Alki, described as “Fireboat and rescue swimmers responding to the water near 2500 Blk. of Alki Ave. SW for possible paddleboarder in distress.”

8:20 PM: SFD says the paddleboarder was found and didn’t need help after all, so they’re canceling the response.

6:18 PM: Thanks for the tips and photos. The big emergency response in Seaview is for that car-on-side crash at 44th/Juneau. Apparently no major injuries, as the SFD call has already closed, 15 minutes after dispatch.

UPDATE: ‘Full response’ for house fire southwest of The Junction

1:47 PM: SFD has a full response going to a possible house fire in the 5200 block of 46th SW. More to come.

1:50 PM: SFD is arriving and reports flames are showing. Avoid the area – it’s a huge response.

1:55 PM: That’s a TV helicopter, in case you’re wondering. Our crew has arrived – we’ll be adding photos.

2:08 PM: The photo above is from SFD, which reports the fire is under control. Here’s our newest photo:

No word yet of injuries but we’re told a kitten was rescued. (Photo added)

UPDATE: 2 to hospital after crash closes slope-split 59th SW in Alki

9:33 AM: Seattle Fire is arriving at a crash on 59th SW south of Admiral Way [map] with a “rescue extrication” response. Power lines are down. Updates to come.

9:42 AM: The collision involves two cars per SFD. Medics have radioed that two people are seriously hurt.

9:50 AM: Given the narrow, split configuration of 59th in that area, some response vehicles are on eastbound Admiral too, so be careful if you have to travel that street.

10:03 AM: Photos added. This is on the southbound, one-way section of 59th SW. The injured people are being taken to Harborview by SFD medic units. Both were in the same car, we’re tol. As mentioned earlier, power lines are down; a pole is visibly leaning, across the northbound/downhill side:

10:18 AM: Police tell us the collision actually happened on the downhill/NB side of 59th and both cars came down the embankment.

Both injured people were in the car in the background. The driver of the one in the foreground is OK and talking to media. He says firefighters told him the other driver might have had a medical emergency preceding the collision. Meantime, SPD’s Traffic Collision Investigation detectives are responding, so the scene will be closed for some hours.

11:21 AM: The photo above was tweeted by SFD, showing the car they had to cut into to free the injured driver and passenger, who are reported to be in critical and stable condition. A commenter also notes that power is out in the area; the City Light map shows 75 customers affected, with a current restoration estimate after 1 pm.

12:18 PM: Update from SFD – the driver in critical condition is a 69-year-old man; his passenger, a 67-year-old woman, serious but stable. The other driver, a 61-year-old man, was unhurt. (added) Here’s part of what Jim Lee told reporters:

The power-outage restoration estimate for the area is now just after 4:30 pm.

1:19 PM: Kersti Muul tells us Seattle City Light is on scene with a replacement pole and other repair work under way.

3 PM: Just went through the area. SCL is still working on the northbound side but it looks like there’s enough room to pass.

3:38 PM: SPD confirms that a medical emergency caused the crash. Otherwise, the only new detail in this just-posted SPD Blotter summary is that two members of the crew that had been working on southbound 59th suffered minor injuries from the falling wires.

VIDEO: Hazmat response at 35th SW apartments after woman found dead, police officers sent to hospital

9:55 AM: If you’re wondering about the SFD/SPD response in the 8800 block of 35th SW, Seattle Fire says they’re “investigating a possible chemical substance in apartment building” and advising people to stay away from the area. Updates to come.

10:06 AM: Our crew reports 35th is blocked between Henderson and Trenton; this is happening in an apartment building nearer to Henderson than Trenton. SFD confirms one person was found dead in the building.

10:24 AM: The Medical Examiner has arrived at the scene but before they can handle the death, SFD crews are still working on the unspecified hazardous-materials situation. While 35th remains blocked, police are allowing buses through.

10:42 AM: SFD is still dealing with the scene, with hazmat gear and washdown stations. SFD’s public information officer Kristin Tinsley is there so we should get some updates soon. And the helicopter, if you’re wondering, is a TV station.

11:01 AM: Just briefed, by Tinsley and SPD PIO Det. Mark Jamieson. (video added)

This started – as a commenter noted – as a “welfare check,” a call for police to check on someone who hadn’t been heard from in a while. Officers who found the dead person had clearly been exposed to something – hazmat crews are in the unit still trying to figure out what. The two officers have been taken to a hospital to be checked out. Nearby residents aren’t believed to be in danger but for now they’ve been asked to keep their doors/windows closed as a precaution.

11:22 AM: More information. The substances were primarily ammonia and chlorine bleach. The person found dead was a woman.

The response is mostly wrapping up now. That’s the other TV helicopter over the area now, by the way.

12:02 PM: SDOT says all lanes of 35th SW have reopened.
