7:14 AM: Good morning! No incidents or transit alerts in/from West Seattle so far.
HOLIDAY WEEKEND: Monday (November 12th) is the observed Veterans Day, so there will be changes including no Water Taxi, reduced-weekday Metro, and no school.
5:17 PM: Since multiple factors might affect your homeward drive/ride, we’re on pm traffic/transit watch. So far: The protest march isn’t a march yet – it’s gathering first at Cal Anderson Park on Capitol Hill. (CapitolHillSeattle.com is tracking it on Twitter.) When protesters do march, the route is expected to be west on Pine to 2nd, then southbound to the Federal Building. Some buses are rerouting, per Metro.
Meantime, as mentioned in this morning’s traffic/transit watch, the stadium zone will be busy tonight with the Sounders’ 7:30 pm playoff match vs. Portland.

And not related to either, but a crash in the West Marginal Way S/Holden area – by the South Transfer Station – is causing trouble between West Seattle and South Park.
5:50 PM: The march from Capitol Hill to downtown started a few minutes ago, CHS’s Justin Carder reports.

6:07 PM: Scanner indicates protesters are still on Pine, westbound between 3rd and 9th.
6:14 PM: If you’re outbound from West Seattle – a crash is reported on the eastbound bridge by the Delridge onramp.
6:24 PM: The marchers are reaching their destination on 2nd; here’s the city camera at 2nd and Marion:

6:31 PM: SDOT says that West Marginal/Holden situation has finally cleared.
7:35 PM: 2nd Avenue is clear; the downtown march/rally ended peacefully; the soccer match has begun.

7:33 AM: Good morning. One problem in the area – a crash blocking the right lane of NB 99 at Michigan, so that’s affecting people headed in from the south, including 509.
7:37 AM: Now there’s a dispatch for a non-injury crash midspan on the eastbound West Seattle Bridge. (added) Though it was reported via scanner as non-injury, SFD is being dispatched.
7:51 AM: Watch the top left camera view for the status on that crash.
8:20 AM: Bridge crash cleared.

Thanks for the tips. Southbound Delridge is blocked at Thistle because of a crash. A pickup truck hit a parked vehicle. Northbound traffic is getting by. Police are talking with the driver and awaiting a tow truck so it should clear up before too long. No report of injuries – SFD was not dispatched.

6 PM: Our crew says the bus is gone; the damaged car is off to the side, and traffic is flowing normally.

6:59 AM: Good morning. SFD has one engine going to a crash reported at Delridge/Orchard.
FERRIES: Fauntleroy-Vashon-Southworth is down to two boats so one can undergo a required inspection.
WATER TAXI: The West Seattle run starts its fall/winter five-day-a-week schedule today.

8:19 AM: SDOT reports a crash at Avalon/Genesee.
12:24 AM: Five houses were originally on the site that will be redeveloped into a ~40-condominium project by Vibrant Cities (formerly SolTerra, which originally planned an apartment project). One was moved off the site last January; another is being moved right now; the remaining three will be demolished. We’re here to cover the move, with the renowned house rescuers of Nickel Bros set to pull this house off 1254 Alki and truck it almost half a mile southeast to a barge at Don Armeni Boat Ramp, as was done with the 1262 Alki house nine months ago. Its new owner says it’s headed for Anderson Island.
The crews prepped the site days earlier but just rolled out of Don Armeni after midnight to start setting up for the move.
12:57 AM: The house’s new owner says it’s one of two that he’s buying and moving via Nickel Bros. The other one, taken from a site in Poulsbo, is already on the barge, which he says is scheduled to dock on the island Tuesday. Also here, Vibrant Cities’ co-owners James Wong – who has West Seattle roots – and Ming Fung. They tell us the condo project will likely start construction early next year and will be called Infinity.
1:59 AM: The move is expected to start shortly. Alki Ave will be blocked for a while east of here.
2:30 AM: The house is off the lot and headed down the street, with the help of not only the Nickel Bros crews but also pilot vehicles. We’re headed back to HQ and will add video and a few more photos from there.
3:59 AM: Here are two angles of video as the house left the site:
Local videographer Mark Jaroslaw, who has been recording the operation, reports that it hit a temporary snag: “The house slowly rounded the corner onto Harbor Ave, but was forced to halt in the 1200 block because someone failed to anticipate a low-hanging utility line. The crew tried lowering the load to no avail. So, they improvised. They laid a path of plywood sheets across the park grass, allowing the truck to detour off the street into the Armeni lot. The house was secured at 3:30.” We’ll be checking its status in daylight.
12:24 PM: Thanks to Mark for sharing his video including the house being loaded onto the barge, followed by the sailaway:
Anderson Island, the house’s destination, is Puget Sound’s southernmost island.

HIGHWAY 99 CLOSURE REMINDER: The weekend closure is in 2 phases – SB starting 9 tonight and lasting all weekend, NB starting at 6 am Saturday and end by 5 pm that day.
9:50 AM: Sorry to be late catching onto this. A gas leak has caused closures downtown in the 1st/Columbia/Cherry vicinity. Some of this seems to be easing, according to what we’re hearing on police radio, at least for pedestrians in the area.
9:59 AM: There’s also a gas-leak call at Holden/Highland Park Way. Apparently not major as two of the three dispatched units have been dismissed, but please let us know if you are seeing otherwise.
10:20 AM: A downtown update from police radio – while sidewalks in the area are being opened, 1st will remain closed to traffic between Columbia and Yesler. 2nd is being reopened.
10:50 AM: 1st also has reopened between Yesler and Marion, per SDOT.
