9:32 PM: Thanks to those who’ve sent photos of this crash at Admiral Way/57th SW this past hour. No major injuries reported. But police are looking for the driver of the Honda Fit, who reportedly walked away from the scene, which is what makes it a hit-run. Police told dispatch the car is registered to someone who lives nearby. They also reported that a gun was found/seen inside. The car will be impounded. An SDOT crew is being summoned to clean up a fluid spill.
10:16 PM: Police just told dispatch that Admiral Way has fully reopened. We’re checking with SFD re: injuries.
3:45 PM: Thanks for the tip. Vehicles are not being allowed to cross the West Seattle low bridge right now. SDOT says the bridge is having “technical issues.” According to one texter, the bike/foot path is open, though. Updates to come.
4:22 PM: Live camera just showed the gates raising from the vehicle lanes and traffic moving again.

7:31 AM: SFD has a rescue-extrication response arriving at the Admiral Way Bridge, where a crash involves a car on its side.
7:36 AM: Admiral is fully blocked at the bridge – which has been down to two lanes, one each way, for several weeks because of the earthquake-strengthening project. SFD reports one person trapped in the car that went sideways in the eastbound lane.
(Added – texted photo from another reader)
7:39 AM: Firefighters just told dispatch they’ve gotten that person out.
(Added: Vehicle after firefighters cut off top to extricate driver – photo by Christopher Boffoli)
7:58 AM: The Admiral Way Bridge remains blocked both ways and that’s leading to traffic trouble on other access routes to the bridge, according to police radio, until the scene is cleared. Meantime, we’re checking on the crash victim’s condition.
8:06 AM: The driver is being taken to the hospital. According to what medics told the emergency-room doctors on emergency radio, this was NOT a high-speed crash – she was going “25 to 30 mph” when she hit something on the bridge. Meantime, SFD has cleared the scene; SPD is awaiting the tow truck but just let a bus go through.
8:14 AM: Police are now allowing westbound traffic to go through.
8:29 AM: The tow truck has arrived.
8:59 AM: Admiral is now open both ways. (Thanks again to Andy for progress reports.)
9:45 AM: SFD tells us that the driver, an 84-year-old woman, was in stable condition when taken to the hospital.

5:09 PM: If you missed the update in our daily event list – just a reminder, the Spokane Street Viaduct (extension of West Seattle Bridge between 99 and I-5) is wide open. The originally announced “full weekend eastbound closure” ended mega-early, as did the planned westbound closure last weekend, after just some overnight work Friday night to Saturday morning. As one reader notes, the eastbound side is freshly striped, so this could be an indication the resurfacing project is nearing its end; we hope to get an update from SDOT on Monday.
8:01 PM: We got this reply tonight from SDOT spokesperson Ethan Bergerson:
There’s a bit more work to do [on the project overall], but if the weather allows it then the crews will try to minimize closures during the daytime if possible. The announced closure schedule was based on how long it has previously taken to complete work on this project and also took into account uncertainty in the weather forecast on both weekends. Fortunately, the crews have become quite efficient at this stage in the project and good weather allowed us to get more work done than expected on the Friday night of both weekends.
6:00 AM: Good morning. It’s Friday, September 27.

*Eastbound lanes are scheduled to close all weekend for the Spokane Street Viaduct resurfacing project – but be aware that the schedule has changed without warning on past weekends, so check cameras before you leave. We’ll also do our best to catch if/whe work ends early so we can update
*Also this weekend, the 1st Avenue South Bridge has southbound lane closures both mornings, 6 am-noon.
*Regionally, here’s what’s happening.
ONGOING ROAD WORK
*For the Admiral Way Bridge seismic project, the north half of the bridge remains closed, with one lane each way on the south side, until the project switches sides next month; Fairmount Avenue remains closed under the bridge.
*The Delridge pedestrian-bridge earthquake-safety project also continues, with narrowing at Delridge/Oregon.

*For the Admiral Way Bridge seismic project, the north half of the bridge remains closed, with one lane each way on the south side, until the project switches sides next month; Fairmount Avenue remains closed under the bridge.

3:20 PM: If you have to head to the eastbound bridge via Fauntleroy, wait a while or try a different access point further east; the Fauntleroy entrance is temporarily closed while SDOT crews rearrange barriers knocked into the eastbound lanes by an earlier westbound spinout. (The crash scene is clear, no injuries reported.)
3:26 PM: Crews got the job done quickly and the bridge entrance has reopened.
With another scheduled Spokane Street Viaduct half-closure this weekend, a newly announced plan for weekend lane closures on the 1st Avenue South Bridge could have extra impact, so we’re mentioning it today. This is a state-owned bridge, so the announcement comes from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) – routine bridge inspections are planned both mornings this weekend, Saturday, September 28, and Sunday, September 29. On Saturday, 6 am-noon, crews will close the two right southbound lanes of the 1st Ave. S. Bridge; on Sunday, also 6 am-noon, crews will close the left southbound lane. The weekend SSV closure is planned for eastbound lanes, so there shouldn’t be much overlap, but we’re sending out the early FYI just in case.
