Thunder Road Guitars and The Bass Shop are currently at 6400 California SW; TRG was in The Junction and South Admiral before that. The new location was previously the home of Mud Bay, which moved kitty-corner to the northeast corner of the Admiral/California intersection.
The photo was sent by a resident at Maris (4722 Fauntleroy Way SW) showing damage done last night by what SPD says today was a fired shot and thrown rock. Here’s their summary:
At 1819 hours, witnesses heard glass breaking and then heard a gunshot in the area of 4700 block Fauntleroy Way SW, prompting several 911 calls. Officers responded and witnesses pointed out a broken second-story window of an apartment building. Officers also located a single cartridge casing and building bullet damage near the broken window. The occupant of the damaged apartment confirmed a rock had been thrown through the window but denied shots being fired. Evidence was collected and photos taken showing both a large rock and gun were used. Private video shows the suspect in the area just prior to the shot being fired and window damage.
Though the police summary does not include any descriptive information (we’re requesting the longer narrative), the resident who sent the photo describes the associated vehicle as “black, older-model Lexus.” If you have any information, the SPD incident number for this is 26-140365.

I am a 60-something North Admiral resident, and semi-retired professional Actor/Singer/Dancer. I’ll be teaching Beginning Tap Dance for adults 18+ at the newly reopened Hiawatha Community Center this summer, beginning the week of June 15th. My goal is to share my lifelong love of Tap with folks who’ve always wanted to learn, and to help sow joy in some small way. (I started dancing at the Magnolia Community Center at the age of five.) I find that when one is focused on learning dance it is completely impossible to think of anything else, and I consider that a great gift in our challenging times.

We are very excited to present our 5th Annual WSHS Car Show in partnership with REVUP Energy and the WSHS Alumni Association. After fantastic shows in the last 5 years, we are back bigger and better this year, and can’t wait to see you there!
The car show is open to all vehicles, motorcycles, and even buses/vans that you would like to show off!
The show takes place Saturday, June 6, 2026, from 12 pm-3:30 pm (with vehicle check-in starting at 11 am) at the West Seattle High School Parking Lot.

With the FIFA World Cup’s debut in our city less than a month away, we looked into local options for West Seattleites and neighbors to celebrate, without having to make the daunting trip downtown. So far, we’ve found several events being hosted by local organizations with city sponsorships, and sports-forward businesses that will be live streaming the games!
In December, the city’s Office of Arts and Culture issued a news release detailing that nearly $1.3 million would be invested to “activate public spaces and bring communities together ahead of the World Cup”; $485,000 of this fund was awarded to 13 organizations citywide. This manifested as 1-3 organizations from each city district being awarded funding for festivities. In District 1 (which includes West Seattle and South Park), Delridge Neighborhoods Development Association, Duwamish Tribal Services, and Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association were each awarded $40,000. Some of this funding will be going toward cultural festivals and celebrations that work to “reflect the diversity and energy of Seattle” and some to soccer-related events directly.

South Park United: Celebrating Culture, Community & the Beautiful Game, hosted by Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association:
DVSA is putting on an outdoor cultural festival at Concord International Elementary School on July 19th with live match viewing, music, dance, art, and food, according to the city of Seattle’s website. Free meal tickets will be distributed, and an “Hora Loca” will commence at 9 A.M. featuring a DJ and music. The June 19th game will be livestreamed at 12 P.M., after which there will be a social and more music.
South Park United: Mini World Cup, hosted by Duwamish Valley Sustainability Association:
DVSA is hosting a free soccer tournament concurrent with the above event for kids aged 6-10 at Concord International School. The event will take place on July 19th, with signups starting at 7:30 A.M. They will be giving out free international jerseys, and kids are guaranteed to play three games, after which the World Cup watch party will commence.
We got in touch with local sports bars and pubs to inquire about World Cup plans, including any special features unique to the days these businesses will be streaming the games:
Admiral Pub:
Admiral Pub has a 2026 FIFA World Cup tab on their website, advertising that every match will be livestreamed, they will have full sound, and a strong soccer crowd.
The Bridge:
Though they remarked that reservations were mostly full, The Bridge bar/restaurant in West Seattle will be streaming the games and is still taking reservations for game days.
The Westy:
The Westy Sports and Spirits will also be livestreaming the games, with tentative plans to extend their opening hours for some games scheduled for earlier in the day.
Whisky West:
Whisky West will be screening “all World Cup games possible” and plans to open beyond their regular business hours for some earlier games. They also will be providing games for kids, specials, and promise a great atmosphere.
Beveridge Place Pub:
Beveridge Place Pub will be showing World Cup matches with sound, and opening early for “special matches,” including all USA matches, and matches from the quarterfinals on. The owner also added that they will be having their 10-foot projection screen showing matches in the main room, in addition to the four existing screens in the game room. Lastly, Beveridge Place will be bringing in a special selection of international beers.
Other events in West Seattle will be hosted as a part of the “Beautiful Game Series” put on by Seattle Parks and Recreation. This initiative was also created in light of the World Cup, working to incorporate special “soccer-themed recreation programming.”
5v5 Youth Soccer Jamboree
Seattle Parks and Recreation is partnering with Highline Premier FC, SYSA, and Soccer Starts Seattle to host a 5v5 Jamboree on June 27th at Delridge Playfield. The festival is completely free to participants, with the opportunity to register as a group or an individual. All experience-levels are welcome and participants will receive a complementary t-shirt! The jamboree is intended for kids aged 8-11, but there will also be a free, drop-in clinic for kids aged 4-7. Jamboree organizers hope to activate new soccer players, getting as many kids involved as possible.

The city of Seattle is coming together to create an atmosphere of culture, community, soccer, and fun!

In the interest of community safety and awareness, I am reporting a property theft from a parked vehicle behind the West Seattle YMCA, this morning, between 6:15 am and 7 am, Tuesday, May 19, 2026. SPD tracking number is T00057762.
About $800 value was taken, of note was a 50+ pound duffle bag full of kids track and field equipment: 8 plastic 400gram turbo javelins (purple, red, yellow and green), 12 aluminum relay batons (multiple colors), 4 iron shot, one black rubber discus, and two 100ft measuring tapes, and a few other coaching items, like clipboards and stop watches.
In addition to the track and field bag of gear, also taken were small consumer electronics, spare care parts (mainly bulbs), and ~ 20 insulated and regular reusable grocery bags.
It seems an odd collection for someone to steal. The duffle bag of gear was really heavy and would be tiring to carry, so maybe someone in a nearby car (which doesn’t sound “unhoused”) or with a cart. If it was taken by someone on the edge, I truly hope kids athletic gear somehow helps them survive and find their way to giving back to society some of what they have taken.

Around 8:30 am: More coyote activity on the corner of 41st Ave SW and Dawson this morning. More significant than last week because this hill sees a lot of cars and human activity at that time in the morning, and is a route used by a lot of young school kids.
Two coyotes one large, one smaller. This is the second sighting for me at this location in as many weeks, but these two came from a different direction than the last time I saw them (that was late at night heading west up the hill). These two canines came running from the south, on 41st Ave SW then took a right down the Dawson hill, heading east.
Our usual disclaimer – we have published coyote sightings for 15+ years in the spirit of awareness, not alarm, so we always point to experts’ advice on safe co-existence.
Parade season is under way! West Seattle High School music director Ethan Thomas sent the photo and report:
The West Seattle High School Marching Band participated in the 88th annual Spokane Lilac Festival Armed Forces Torchlight Parade last Saturday. The weather was cold and wet, but we had a great time performing for a large and enthusiastic audience. The West Seattle High School Marching Band was recognized as one of the Lilac Parade’s Gold Standard bands. The Lilac Festival has been a tradition in Spokane since 1938. The parade featured over 150 entries from across Washington State.
You will likely see some of these student musicians in the West Seattle Grand Parade on July 18 as part of the Seattle Schools All-City Marching Band. The WSHS Band’s schedule each year includes leading the Costume Parade during the West Seattle Junction Harvest Festival.
Back in March, we told you about plans for the first-ever West Seattle Math Competition – organized by students, for students, all middle-schoolers. The competition happened this past Saturday at the Admiral HUB – and we were there to photograph the conclusion of the competition (the first few hours happened behind closed doors). It ended with a trophy ceremony for both the individual and team winners. Individual winners were Bella, Zhenyu, and Sadhika:

The competition spanned four rounds, including algebra, geometry, probability, and number theory problems.

The Fauntleroy Community Association maintains box planters near 45th and Wildwood near and across the street from Endolyne Joe’s restaurant. This Saturday, May 23rd is the spring “planter party” – volunteers will refresh 27 planters with summer color. Some of the plants have grown too big for the planter boxes and are available to anyone who would like them. To help these boxes thrive in the future we are asking for people to pay what they can for the plants on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The plants are big, healthy and would make great additions to your landscape. There are some great bargains including:

A Tern HSD S5i cargo e-bike (2022 Jubilee edition, sage green color) was taken from inside our garage on California Ave SW (98136) sometime between roughly 10 PM on May 17th and 7 AM on May 18th. A neighbor’s Ring camera captured two unknown male suspects on foot passing the house at approximately 12:04 AM and returning toward our garage about three minutes later. The bike is a compact longtail cargo bike with a Bosch motor, child seat (Tern Clubhouse Mini), Hauler rear rack, and Sidekick footrests, fairly distinctive.
The bike has serious sentimental value (we shipped it from Europe when we relocated to Seattle two years ago) and it is also my only means of getting our two young kids to school. An SPD theft report has been filed and the bike is registered as stolen on Bike Index.
If anyone spots it on Facebook Marketplace, OfferUp, Craigslist, or being ridden anywhere in the area, I’d be very grateful to hear from them, they can reach me at yurdagulun@icloud.com
WSDOT has one more traffic alert about the northbound 1st Avenue South Bridge, in the wake of two full-weekend closures:
Northbound State Route 99 will reduce to two lanes across the First Avenue South Bridge from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Monday, May 18, through Wednesday morning, May 20.
Contractor crews working for the Washington State Department of Transportation will take down the work zone used for Phase 2 emergency deck repairs to the northbound SR 99 First Avenue South Bridge.
Crews completed those deck repairs during full closures across the northbound SR 99 First Avenue South bridge the weekends of May 8-11 and 15-18.

Thanks to everyone who sent tips about that sign sighted in the Morgan Junction storefront window that was long Little Prague (and briefly a barbecue pop-up). We tracked down Royal Bagel‘s prospective proprietor Eric, who provided this statement:
Royal Bagel is planning to open in Morgan Junction late this year at 6045 California Ave SW. A homage to the owner’s relative Royal Brougham, the great Seattle Post-Intelligencer sportswriter and local philanthropist, Royal Bagel will offer New York style bagels and schmear to-go with plans to eventually extend its menu. Updates to come as opening plans are established.
West Seattle doesn’t currently have a dedicated bagel shop; Zatz A Better Bagel closed in The Admiral District in 2015.
