WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Attempted entry; dog-food theft

Two reader reports with porch-camera security video:

ATTEMPTED ENTRY: Mark sent this:

Wanted to make the Admiral neighborhood aware of these two individuals who came onto our property and attempted to enter our home. This happened on 6/18/2026 around 9:45 PM in the 2700 block of 37th Ave SW.

DOG-FOOD THEFT: This package thief may or may not have realized what he got from Robert‘s porch Thursday night:

A porch pirate stole a delivery of dog food from my front door near 39th Ave SW and Barton Street. I attached the video, which shows the thief and his vehicle. Other neighbors may want to know.

PREVIEW: Start summer by supporting Fauntleroy Fall Festival at Super Deli Mart’s afternoon party

(WSB photo from 2025 Fauntleroy Fall Festival fundraiser @ Super Deli Mart)

Two updates tomorrow for a party that’ll be a fun way to celebrate the first day of summer and Father’s Day while supporting a fall tradition: The Super Deli Mart party benefiting the Fauntleroy Fall Festival is now 1-4 pm Sunday at 35th/Barton, where they’ll turn their lot into a beer garden, and it’ll include live music by The Grunge Trio. This is an all-ages celebration, including bubbles and other activities for the kids. This fundraiser will help keep the Fauntleroy Fall Festival (October 18 this year) free – the festival’s powered by donations and volunteers – with 20 percent of draft-beer sales during the event going to the festival. Stop by Super Deli Mart, northwest corner of 35th/Barton, any time 1-4 pm Sunday.

WEST SEATTLE COYOTES: Two more sightings (update: third added

8:12 PM: Two more reader reports of coyote sightings – no photos this time, though. First:

Saw a coyote shortly before 9:55 pm Friday 6/19 in Highland Park. It was running west down SW Elmgrove Street past 12th Ave SW with something large-rabbit-sized in its mouth. It was too dark and fast to see anything more in the headlights. Please take care with your pets, neighbors.

And a texter reported this around 7:30 am Friday:

Coyote sighting at Delridge Playfield. Heading outh down 26th Avenue.

Our standard reminder – we publish sighting reports for awareness, not alarm. You might think everyone knows they live in our area; we hear frequently from people who say they didn’t know, or thought they only lived in greenbelts, etc. Here’s the short version of state wildlife experts’ tips on coexistence.

9:31 PM: We’ve since received this sighting report from Tim in High Point:

My wife and I were walking our small dog around the pond in High Point just after 6PM. We saw a coyote run across the field from the East, down the hill and into the bushes around the viewing platform, then exit again further to the West where it then crossed High Point Drive SW to the North and entered SW MacArthur Lane. Caught a distant photo of it between the viewing platform and High Point Drive SW (look for it beyond the blue sign center).

FOLLOWUP: Part of South Alki shore/water is safe again, post-overflow – here’s the part that still is not

The red zone in that map just sent by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division shows the area where it’s still not safe to have contact with the water, three days after a 13,000-gallon sewage leak at the 63rd SW Pump Station. Here’s the update we just received:

Public Health – Seattle & King County (Public Health) analyzed the water sample results that the King County Environmental Lab collected from nine locations along the beach south of Alki Point.

Based on results from the past two days, Public Health has lifted the beach advisory for the areas near Constellation Park and Charles Richey Sr. Viewpoint.

The beach advisory remains in place for Cormorant Cove until 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. During the advisory, people and pets should avoid contact with the water in the area circled in red on the map above. The map also shows the nine sampling locations, marked with blue pins.

Our Community Services team will remove the beach closure signs that are posted outside the updated advisory area.

If you have any questions, please call our Community Services hotline at 206-296-7432.

KCWTD says the leak involved a flow-control gate and was noticed by workers on the ongoing project in the area.

Also in White Center today: Grand opening for new ice-cream shop La Garrafita

(Also published on partner site White Center Now)

(WSB/WCN photos)

While at the Taste of White Center, we discovered it’s Grand Opening Day for La Garrafita, the new ice-cream shop next to Wolfpack Cellars (WSB sponsor) in the renovated storefronts gutted by fire five years ago. We’ve mentioned before in North Highline Unincorporated Area Council coverage on WCN that county rep Phillip Le had told NHUAC an ice-cream shop from Boulevard Park would be opening there, and indeed it has.

If you want to be among the first to check out La Garrafita in White Center, in addition to having participated in this afternoon’s Taste of WC, they’re open until 9 tonight. They offer handmade ice cream, milk-based but with water-based options like sorbet, for those who can’t have or don’t want dairy. They’re having a BOGO special for grand-opening day.

PREVIEW: Celebrate summer’s official arrival Sunday with Alice’s solstice-sunset watch

(WSB photo from cloudy summer-solstice sunset last year)

No sun at last year’s summer-solstice sunset watch with skywatcher/educator Alice Enevoldsen, but this year will likely be different. You’re invited to Solstice Park (top of the slope at 7400 Fauntleroy Way SW) Sunday evening to join her for the next of the quarterly change-of-season sunset watches she’s been hosting for more than 15 years. Official sunset time is 9:11 pm but Alice notes the sun vanishes behind the Olympics (and/or trees) about 15 minutes before that; she’ll be on site starting around 8:30 pm. It’s all ages, free, and a chance to learn exactly what the solstice moment signifies, astronomically – and to see the setting sun line up with the unique markers on the park plateau.

PHOTOS: Taste of White Center 2026!

(WSB/WCN photos by Torin Record-Sand)

Until 3 pm, a food festival/street party is under way in the heart of White Center – the fifth annual Taste of White Center. Booths on 16th SW are selling $5 tickets for special tastes/bites/sips at more than three dozen venues, as a benefit for the White Center Food Bank.

Note that rather than food booths on the street, you have to go into the venue to get your taste at most stops.

Participants stretch north into South Delridge, with seven north of Roxbury – Young’s, Meat the Live Butcher, Can Bar, Mi Casa Antigua Veracruzana, Nacho Mama, Mr B’s Mead Center, and Max’s Triangle Pub. The northernmost ticket booth is on 16th right by the street-closed signs.

Those in the heart of the WC party zone include two WSB sponsors, Big Mario’s Pizza and Wolfpack Cellars (above). What appeared to be the hottest ticket: The Tomo/Lil Woody burger collab.

2:15 PM: Adding more photos! Lumber Yard Bar also has a Queer Art Market until 5:30 pm:

Ever-popular Puffy Pandy is serving up “ice cream puffies”:

And it’s been music-filled too, including DJ sets:

And mariachi:

Southernmost stop today is Patrick’s Café and Bakery, offering scones and cookies. While ticket sales benefit WCFB, they also secured sponsorships to cover the costs of the participating venues.

FOLLOWUP: SDOT finally finishing 63rd/Beach Drive crossing

For five months, the poles for flashing beacons at the new 63rd/Beach Drive crossing have been in place (here’s our January update), awaiting the beacons. We’ve checked in periodically with SDOT, and they’ve replied repeatedly that they were waiting for the equipment to arrive. That’s finally happened; WSB contributor Anne Higuera noticed the crew at work while passing through the area a short time ago and stopped to ask about the project’s status and get a photo. They told her that the beacon should be operational today, but the activation buttons will be bagged because the striping has to be finished. We don’t have a timeline for that but will check with SDOT on Monday. It’s been a year and a half since this was announced as a “2025 project.”
