Whether you call it a People Street or a Pedestrian Street, the little section of 18th SW east of Delridge, between two city-owned parcels destined for parkhood, is the site of an SDOT “community design charrette” right now. We stopped by to verify it’s a drop-in event, and indeed it is – no speeches or presentations, just a chance to get creative:

Need these all over West Seattle and preferably next to the Junction and corners with bars and coffee shops! Portland has these all over and they really make the neighborhood overall better. Would love to shut down Oregon or Alaska for some blocks. Or 35 near Locol/Real Fine.
Genius! Lets block off 3 of our main arterial routes so we can enjoy a coffee, or meth. Whatever floats your boat!
As someone who works and lives right near the triangle park that is next to the proposed pedestrian zone on 18th Ave SW, I can only wonder who the urban planners think will utilize this area. Currently the triangle park is solely inhabited by drug addicts who routinely have to have the police called on them for theft, nudity, drug use, drug dealing, public defecation and sometimes shootings! This will only attract more of their ilk. There are two large daycares right here that are routinely victimized by these lovely inhabitants. Who will bring their kids and family to enjoy this new area? I certainly would not suggest it. Lastly, I know those of us that have to drive for work are becoming unpopular, but parking in this area is at a premium, and this takes 7-8 spots away.
This section of street is somewhat redundant. Would be great for their to actually be a plan to use it instead of just closing it. Currently this will sit empty 360 days a year, and maybe someday when Parks figures it out they will add. Better to wait for a real plan.
