have you been to Original Bakery next door to Endolyne Joe’s?

Head over mid-morning and try the cake doughnuts! Yummy! And, their honey-drenched bran muffins are friggin’ fabulous too, just so you know. :)

Yup – and trying to safely enter uphill from Yancy (my clutch begs me to avoid Genessee!) has been especially hard too. Not just the speed of oncoming traffic, but when the breaks are few and far between, it’s hard to enter the middle lane (to then merge right) when downhill cars are passing through the turn land :|

I can’t wait to try Full Tilt! First Zippy’s, now this. Too much temptation. I’ve been craving some really good, genuine butterscotch ice cream – haven’t seen that in ages. Or maple walnut. Husky Deli does a good job with the maple walnut. But I’d love to taste a Full Tilt version. Or German Chocolate ice cream…yum!

What a wonderful place!! They really transformed the space into a simple, classy restaurant that was warm and friendly.

My bf and I started with the pane which came with fresh sprigs of rosemary, infused butter, and a cup of olives. YUM.

We both drank the Spritze, the last drink listed in the drink menu…It was a little too bitter for me, but I’d recommend trying it if you’re feeling adventurous. The next time I drink there I’m getting the Mojito with Sailor Jerry in it.

We got the Sofia Bella pasta, which was so delicious. It had pistachios and just-right asparagus all tossed in a light garlic cream sauce.

Sofia herself at one point sat down with us to talk, and the staff couldn’t have been more excited about the evening. I highly recommend Revo, it is worth the wait!

    1. Large, hide-a-bed couch. Couch is very very comfy, and folds out to double bed. Uphostery is yucky faded denim – so the nice blue couch cover (cost $30)comes with for free! ($50)

I live on California near Alaska Junction and use an amplified antenna on the fourth floor of my building. It works just fine and there really are quite a few options over the air. It sounds as if your TV is new enough that it has a digital tuner, so you shouldn’t need a converter box (I did.)

I received these links from my father yesterday about building your own HD antenna, that are supposedly more powerful than most amplified antennae. They claim that the configuration of the wires is optimized to pick up on the HDTV signal wavelengths. I’ve watched a couple of them but have not waded through all of them:

start with the first video. the others will help with details and overall understanding.

I should add the disclaimer that I certainly haven’t built my own and don’t know anyone personally who has, although my father says he plans to– but it might give you some more possibilities.

    Mmm, love Phoenecia. Yum.

I will try Pano’s Kleftiko since you recommend it so highly. I am always keen for more Greek food!

I don’t find Ephesus overly garlicky, but on the other hand I love the stuff, so that might not be a good comparison!

Hi All, and especially Celeste17! Thank you Celeste for coming by Windemere last night to view my photographic art exhibit featuring large prints of the 1964 Chagall frescoe covering the ceiling of the Le Garnier (the old Paris Opera House) and, of course, duckies (including ducky Valentine’s cards).

I have posted the Duckies Rule! Valentine’s video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-LIqyuy96M

Ducky Bono also attended the Art Walk last night. I submitted a couple of pics to the WSB editor from the Windemere exhibit for publication here, but no luck. If anyone wants to see the sponsors of my exhibit “Peace and Love,” along with the Ducky Rose Logo, let me know, and I will post at http://www.DuckiesRule.com/home.htm

Take care and have a great V-Day!

This may be rumor, but the quality makes it ring true – Bai Tong was created by family member of a Thai Airways crew member. The rumor has that the Thai Airways crews complained that they couldnt get good food during their layovers in Seattle. The original Bai Tong was on SR99/Internat Blvd at S.160th right near Sea-Tac. I love their food, but find it has a bit heavy on oil but have never had a bad meal there. However, when I dont want to leave WS, Tom Yum is where I go…. but I worry about what I believe is a place that is not clean. The web sez that they have not been cited by the city any more than anyone else on California. If you are interested in checking our your favorite restaurant…..

Hmmmm I went there last night with my husband, and was just so underwhelmed in a variety of ways. On the plus side, our server was very nice, we liked the atmosphere, and they carry those fab Georgetown beers (yummy manny’s). On the downside, although the place was not very busy, we were told we could not have a booth unless we reserved one. We sat at our tiny table and noticed throughout our dinner that there were always booths open. I could not help but wonder what about our appearance made us not worthy of a booth? The food was pretty good but not great. My rib eye, $41 incl tax/tip was undercooked and tough as rubber. After trying to saw through it with my table knife, I asked for a steak knife and was told they don’t have any. How can you sell $40 steaks and not have steak knives? I guess the final insult was that even though my hsuband made it clear to both the hostess and our server that it was my birthday, there was no cup of ice cream with two spoons at the end, or any recognition at all. I have never had this happen at any birhtday dinner I have attended at a restaurant before. Ever! Especially one as expensive as this. Since se chose it based on WSB reader input, I felt compelled to offer this viewpoint so WSB’ers think twice before spending their valuble time and money here. I am excited to try Ama Ama, Shadowland, and the Bohemian next.

We got our wedding cake through SSCC as well, and it was gorgeous and a steal! It had a beautiful white fondant exterior (3 stories tall) with perfect black scrolls around it the base of each story(our were black and white). The filling was chocolate with cococut filing. SO YUMMMY!! It fed over 100 people, and was about $100 or so for the whole cake. Plus they gave us 4 practise cakes beforehand that were fairly large as well in order for us to determine what flavors and colors we liked. Best deal of the wedding!!

I think the carpet may have been left over from the business that was there prior to Tom Yum – can’t remember what it was. Than Bros down the street has the same issue only much much worse. Everytime I’m in there I think how expensive would it be to rip this crap out and either redo it or slap down some laminate. Beyond that, though, discolored carpet isn’t really going to affect by dining choices.

On a side note, it’s really funny how subjective Thai favorites can be. I’ve been to Kaosamai several times and found it to be OK. I’ve also been to Bai Tong and it is very good, but I don’t know about ‘the best.’ I guess I don’t specifically remember their Pad Thai.

As for whether Buddha Ruksa is ‘authentic’ Thai or not, I don’t really care. From their menu you can tell they are trying to do something interesting and unqiue with traditional Thai dishes. And most often it tastes damn good!

I found this interesting article in The Stranger a while back that argues the irrelevancy of ‘authenticity’ when used to imply that a restaurant is inherently good: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=729129

I can’t believe I waited THIS long to give Zippy’s a try! The people were great, the food was devine. My husband loves a grilled burger on grilled bun and this hit the spot. It was an old time burger done just perfectly. If I had had room left after finishing my burger, my onion rings and my husband’s fries, I would have had a malt, but I guess it will have to wait until next time… which I doubt will be too long! YUM!!!

Ooh, AlkiRagdoll, I will have to try that. I’ve only been to Thailand once but Thai food in the states is a pale imitation. I’ve mentioned Kaosamai before (my favorite Thai place in Seattle) but I am always looking for new places.

Next time you are at Tom Yum, look at their carpeting. Everywhere it is dark brown, except under the tables… looks like a grease bomb went off and the tables prevented the grease from settling on the carpet. About half of the seating area is for seating, and the other half has junk stored everywhere. But their Pad Woo Sen is truely yummy as is their Swimming Angels. The condition of the place makes me wonder what they do when they close the blinds……

I dont like Budha Ruska’s or Yum Tom’s Phad Thai (neither of theirs is like what I get in Thailand)… best Pad Thai in the city (outside Thailand) is in Tukwila at Bai Tong (near Toys R US).

    sky2625..

first i have to say something about those wage adjustments…

they need to come from the top not from union busting… the average american worker’s inflation adjusted salary is not out of line… especially when you realize that you can employ 40 to 400 workers for one executive.

Considering the kind of decision the executives at many companies have been making… you have to wonder if they are worth it.

Contrary to the bill of goods we have been sold.. most American workers aren’t lazy overpaid employees without incentive. The productivity of the American worker has risen steadily while real wages for workers declined steadily.

And while we are at it, we need to take the burden of health care off American companies drastically reducing their per employee costs.

that alone will go a long way towards making American workers a competitive choice for manufacturing companies…

so consider that a start to your bigger question.. how to stimulate recovery and readjust the balance of the american economy from consumerism to production…

let’s give money to citizens to buy food… that’s stimulus money that will get spent. if you don’t need food dollars.. you can buy gourmet local meats and cheeses and other luxury foods.

Those dollars have an incredible ripple out effect on our economy.

and how about Washington State tax incentive to retailers who sell food/goods produced locally.

we have to put people back to work now to create a demand for goods…

if our local, state and national governments have to employ them to do so long enough for retail and other service jobs to return.. then we have to employ them…

with an emphasis on jobs that produce infrastructure.. funding the backolog of approved mass transit projects alone would make a huge dent in unemployment and reduce our dependency on foreign oil and make our transportation system cheaper and more efficicent for workers…

we need to invest in human infrastructure too… (education and training at all levels.. preventative medical care.. nutrition programs.. etc…).

that includes some way of removing health care costs from business and into mega insurance pools…

instead of giving tax breaks to companies that lost money… they already got a tax break because they lost money… many of them will pay no taxes at all due to their losses…

let’s give tax breaks to companies that employ US taxpayers… and somehow tie that to a per employee incentive… perhaps moderated by the size of the business.

let’s adjust the tax structure to reward those who produce in the United States.. and to reward those even more who produce with US made parts and raw materials.

lets invest heavily in green technology.. both in r&D and retrofitting…

retrofitting will increase jobs and decrease energy consumption speeding the change towards greener energy and rapidly lessen our dependence on foreign oil. I keep seeing Putin rubbing his itchy fingers in glee at our national predicament.

putting a bank of computers in every classroom would increase US production.. we are quite good at microchips and software and tax breaks might even induce US companies to produce more american computers… and it would raise the educational level of our national workforce exponentially in less than a decade.

let’s invest heavily in science… because that is where we are going to create new products that can spur US production and put us back in the lead in regards to technology.

Yup.. most of those moves cost money.. but most of them also begin generating tax revenue nearly immediately…

and all of those would have long term positive effects.

Unfortunately, they are also part of what has been removed from the stimulus bill in the name of bi-partisan support.

My opinion is that the reason we can only find 3 republican senators liberal enough to work on this in anything approaching a bi-partisan manner is that they have bought the Rush Limbaugh strategy and are gambling for a big win.

oh… and to give them some credit… they still believe their own rhetoric.. that this is just a small bump on the road to recovery…

the problem with that is this nation does not have the resources to weather an economic storm the likes of the great depression… too many people and not enough land for us all to survive on victory gardens:(

it’s a mighty big gamble they are taking… but then, they stand to win pretty big.

i am too tired to proof this again.. so i hope i made sense.

flowerpetal, you have me drooling at the thought. I LOVE the smell of fresh basil and cilantro. I shamelessly stop in the fresh herbs section and take a nice, deep whiff. Tony’s is already reasonably priced, so I love when they have some fun, super-cheap (usually meaning it’s really ripe and on its last legs) stuff in a bin up front. I’ve purchased bags of bananas, tomatoes, or avocados for next to nothing, and took it home to make some damn fine banana bread, pasta sauce, and guacamole. Yum!
