I will be the first to tout Husky’s yumminess. Without them, there would be no Full Tilt.

I don’t want to over look Husky Deli here. Maybe they don’t have all these creative flavors, but it is one of the last places you get a TRUE Half Gallon any more. These other companies that have dumbed us down to 1.5 and 1.75 quarts are really getting my hackles up :(

That said, FT is pretty yummy.

I’ve always enjoyed Tom Yum coconut chicken, but NOTHING compares to Buddha’s Crispy Garlic Chicken – to die for!

    .

PS, never noticed a cleanliness problem at Tom’s, except for boxes in back of restaurant.

Strange – I’ve always noticed how clean the place is, although I too usually do take out. I think their Tom Yum is slightly better than Buddha Ruksa’s, but with BR so close to home I rarely go anywhere else for Thai.

I always sort of wish we had tiers when we talk about restaurants here. Though they have to be good regardless, in my head, there’s dining and take out/fast food. *fwiw, my definition of fast food doesn’t usually include a drive thru ;)* Jak’s burger – Zippy’s burger. yeah? Buddha Ruska – Tom Yum. We usually order the same things at TYK with success and almost always do take out or delivery.

Tried it once, not bad. But IMHO there is really no reason to get Thai anywhere else but Buddha Ruksa….or Thailand….

I’m glad at least to have some guidance on what to order there. I’ve tried a few things and it’s all been fine but I haven’t really loved anything.

Have never noticed a problem with cleanliness… especially when compared to some other Junction establishments!

Gee I love your Swimmming Angels and Pad Woo Sen …. I could eat either for every meal…. but their restaurant looks so dirty. They really need to replace their rugs and clean the place.

    hopey,

i think i talked with them last year and yuki was far more dog aggressive than they were willing to handle.. but he has made progress since then.

maybe i should call and go talk with them again.

I really like Jeff Tinsley and i send people i meet in the park who ask me about training to him all of the time…

but Jeff was in over his head with my little Yuki who had been so badly abused as a pup.

Our situation was unique in that i adopted two rescues with two entirely different sets of issues.. one with humans and the other with dogs… and they are shibas which complicates things…

but the truth is that we adopted two dogs that other people would put down as untrainable…

We had several very well respected trainers tell me that we had two choices.. medication or putting them down… and medication didn’t work for these two.

if we hadn’t found Packworks we would have put Yuki down…

even though Jeff Tinsley agreed with me that this dog had all the potential in the world… we weren’t making the kind of progress that would allow him to realize that potential and we weren’t finding resources .. at any price.. for a dog with the severe kinds of aggression problems he had… and no rescue would take him.

it has taken two years for Yuki to cuddle up next to us for a while before he goes to sleep in his crate for the night… but he does now. And he will sit with me (on leash) while i talk to other dog owners as long as i maintain at least 5 feet between us… and he will allow other people in his car without carrying on for more than a few minutes as though he would kill them if he could just get off his tether …

We still have a long way to go.. but i can see that we can eventually get to a point where we can include other people in our dog’s life…

we didn’t have to put him down.

and mochi.. i don’t know that we can ever trust her off leash around dogs other than yuki… but i can talk to other dog owners and their dogs with her tucked in a sit at my side…

we make progress… but it is very slow and some days it feels like we will never achieve our goals.

as more of us do the right thing by these dogs and take them into our homes, there is a greater need for resources for those who were so badly damaged by their past owners that they really do require specialized training and care.

it is possible that what packworks did for us was to reset our expectations… but whatever it was they did has made an incredible difference in our lives and the lives of our dogs. I can’t thank them enough.

I just want people to know that when they have exhausted what they think are all the available resources.. seen who everyone tells them is the best.. been turned away by the programs that say they help dogs with aggression issues and their heart is breaking because they don’t want to have to put their dog down.. there is still hope…

One of these days i hope to be able to introduce my dogs to you to prove it.. but i suspect that will still be a while:)

in the meantime.. i am always looking for people willing to come meet my yuki…

PM me if you are up to ignoring this little guy’s vocalizations.. which are impressive… while you share his space..

it goes without saying that he will be leashed and that you won’t be petting him any time soon.

No one has mentioned it yet but we would suggest you consider checking out Fauntleroy UCC Church.

Caveat, we’ve never attended services there. And, they have been off-and-on sponsors.

One thing that has caught my attention as we continue reporting on West Seattle’s many neighborhoods is the fact that this church is deeply involved in community service. Starting later this month, in fact (I am overdue for a post on this) they are convening a series of conversations, with guest speakers (including Patrick and me on one night), to talk about the role of “community” in our changing world.

Almost everything “community” that happens in Fauntleroy happens at the church or at the old schoolhouse across the street.

Anyway, you can probably get a sense of them from their website:

    http://www.fauntleroyucc.org

I believe they fit the definition of “liberal” as among other things. See the second to last line on their “mission” page.

    http://www.fauntleroyucc.org/Default2.htm

There are many other awesome-sounding churches around West Seattle that we’ve had the privilege to learn a bit about through news coverage … but given what you have said you’re looking for, that’s the first one that comes to mind.

    Good luck!

    What does everyone think?

How about the people who put their trash in the recycle container, or the yard waste container? Then my garbage man won’t pick it up because it’s mixed (and yes, he leaves it behind with a nasty note.)

Still, at least someone is trying to pick up after themselves. I can’t stand the dog poo soup either. But it IS better than walking in it or mowing it up and finding it when I empty the bag!

I’m actually more annoyed when people let their dog pee on my front gate. Why is it OK to let your dog pee on my walkway? Or my flowers by the gate? Or my car tires? Yuck!
