There is a state licensing database for schools and child cares – Nothing by that name comes up so you may want to call the toll-free number that also is mentioned on this page:

Thanks for beating me to that, rockergirl. Added it a few days ago when we got the flyer from Westwood Village.

We’re updating the Holiday Haps page pretty much daily now –

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?page_id=4467

both with listings that are sent to us, and with listings that we happen onto during frequent websearches. If there’s ANYTHING open to the public you know about that you’re not finding there, please let us know!

Easiest way to search it is to use the “find in page” feature in your browser, since it’s a flat page – for example, searching for SANTA using “find in page” will hit on several things – Santa will also be in The Junction, at the Admiral Theater, at Delridge Community Center (busy guy!) …

Do you guys know u-haul on 35th and Morgan has introduced their own version of this service and is offering Zipcar members a free membership. Don’t have any idea if their service is any better, but it is another option.

There website is not updated to show they’re available here but I see 3 of the PT cruisers parked there all the time.

I mentioned that bug earlier in this thread.

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=2554&page=2#post-35195

bbPress (forum) and WordPress (rest of site) are open source and continuously under development – but that particular bug hasn’t been fixed yet; bbPress is working toward its official 1.0 release. (Funny to think something that’s been in use more than a year is still pre-1.0, but this remains the best possible forum software for integration with WP.)

Re: the weird times, someone please explain? I looked at my PM inbox and I see date/time stamps for message but nothing “weird” looking, at least by my definition (granted, it’s a subjective term) …

One thing the audience learned at coyote and raccoon night (https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=11370) was that raccoons like to burrow into attics. The advice was to look for small tears in the shingles as those are the entrances.

We reported on the Aaron’s move and then-impending liquor-store closure back in August.

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=10032

I haven’t checked the city files lately to see if anyone’s filed to move into Aaron’s current space.

Aaron’s site says his grand opening will be two days after Thanksgiving.

There is currently no “delete” avatar option yet sadly. For now, just create a 1×1 pixel white image and replace your avatar with that image. I’ve attached one here for convenience:

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/avatars/default.png

Just visit that URL, go to File>Save As, and upload that picture as your avatar.

Alternatively, if you want to just change your avatar, upload a new one ontop of the old one and it’ll disappear.

    Hope that helps.

    Topic: How cool!

    in forum Politics

Just got this email from the Obama campaign – what a cool idea!! Wish I could go for it – I will actually be in Washington DC on election day/night. Only problem is I am there for work and will likely be up all night on Tuesday watching the returns on the West Coast and CELELBRATING an Obama victory!!!

I want you to be there with me on Election Night when the results come in.

We’re planning a big event that will include tens of thousands of supporters in Grant Park in downtown Chicago.

We’re saving some of the best seats in the house for 5 people who have given to the campaign before — and who decide to make a donation one last time before Sunday at midnight.

If you’re selected, you can bring a guest, and we’ll fly you in and put you up in a hotel for the night. You’ll go backstage at the big event and — no matter what happens — you’ll have a front row seat to history as we celebrate the supporters who got us over the finish line.

Any donation counts — whatever you can afford. Show your support at this crucial time with a donation of $25 or more, and you could join me on Election Night:

    https://donate.barackobama.com/frontrow

This movement for change has been a testament to the power of ordinary Americans coming together to achieve extraordinary things.

I look forward to having you there on Election Night.

    Thank you,

    Barack

Been working on this a LONG time off and on, had to get some underlying software upgraded (which is what we did the other night). Now – we can start adding some overdue features.

    What’s in action now:

Avatars: You can now have an avatar (photo or other image that displays on all your posts), but it’s NOT mandatory – so, if you don’t want one, you will NOT have one of those suspicious-looking silhouettes turn up on your posts instead, they’ll just look the way they’ve always looked. For example, you should see a ferry sunset photo by my posts now.

To upload one for yourself, go to your profile (which you can access any time from the bottom of https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum )

and click avatar. PLEASE note the size limit and file types supported.

Speaking of images, you can now use one in a post if there is a photo you want to share. You cannot UPLOAD it through here – you have to have a URL for it already (from flickr or wherever). JPG or PNG preferably. Nothing wider than 450 pixels, so please check the size before you add it. You have to code it into your post like this:

I will find a place to put a tutorial in here but in the meantime, please bookmark this post.

Last but not least for today (more to come) – the “ignore this user” feature. You are probably already seeing “ignore” at the bottom of posts. If you want to ignore ALL posts by a certain user, click that anywhere – and that’s it. That user will remain ignored by you – their posts won’t show up in your WSB Forum experience at all – until and unless you UNignore them.

To check on who (if anyone) you have ignored, and to un-ignore them if you choose, go to your profile, and click EDIT PROFILE – you will see the list (if any) there, with a simple clickable way to unignore.

More features coming (including “report this post”) … sorry this took a while, but it was a double software upgrade (main site plus the forum program) and Tech Team WSB had to do a lot of work to make sure the two would play well together.

Let me know if you encounter any bugs … TR

p.s. Small tweak, we also have changed the default category to OPEN DISCUSSION when you launch a new topic from the main forum page (it had been Reader Recommendations), but please continue paying close attention to where you want to categorize a post when you start a topic. Thanks!!!

Just a note, Junction trick or treat was last weekend, Halloween business trick or treating is Admiral and Westwood Village, both on the holidays page along with TONS more events for tomorrow night and beyond:

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?page_id=4467

We hardly ever get trick or treaters so if we do, they get two or three each. Tomorrow night we’ll be out covering Halloween happenings so we’ll probably do what we did last year, leave a bowl on the stoop … TR

Well here is a sponsor of WSB.

Unless your looking for a wingnut church to reinforce the dominionist heresies or justify intolerance, they should work fine.

New WSB sponsor: Westside Unitarian Universalist Congregation

Any mainstream denominations should also be reasonable.

The two you mentioned are offshoots of the Assemblies cell church structure which place overwhelming emphasis on old testament authoritarianism at the expense of the words of Jesus.

    Choose your poison.

Our rules for rants are to explain what you did to complain directly to the source first, before posting here.

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=2278

That’s a matter of fairness, unless you think some sort of personal safety is involved that you don’t want to risk by reporting – in which case, as I wrote at the time, it’s fodder for a news story, not just a rant to be posted, and I welcome e-mail about any such situations:

    editor@westseattleblog.com

If you already have complained or tried to, or if you have done so using the information provided by subsequent post’ers (which is the same thing I would have said – exactly the steps you need to take) – please add that here. – TR

Good question, and one that affects a lot of people.

    See

    https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=10115

Usually people who do this are off in unincorporated county land with enough property to accumulate derelict vehicles for years but sometimes the car rancher mentality ends up inside city limits. Unfortunately the city doesn’t do much beyond what you’re describing to put a halt to the extreme offenders. Why people do this is really what fascinates me. Compulsive car auction attendee? Angry at society? Doesn’t realize it’s not within acceptable social norms? Really, I’d like to see a study done.
