Another e-waste opportunity

Seem to recall you guys had a thread going on this a week or so back … Just got a note today from Sharon at Union Gospel Mission with word of another opportunity coming up, not in West Seattle, but not far. She writes:

TR – I updated the previous thread just a couple days ago and I received a response with a link to an article stating that some of these companies may be engaged in illegal dumping in China (it was a 60 minutes expose) and this companey – ewaste – is not currently on the ethical recycler’s list for this area.

There were only about 5 good local recyclers listed on the BAN list and RePC was one of the recommended ones.

I can’t find the link to the prior thread right this second, but it had a link to the 60 minutes article.

The situation can be complex.

This P-I article from earlier this year points out how a cleanup that was supposed to benefit Union Gospel went awry … and some claim the group you mention has gone too far.

I’ll see what the Union Gospel PR person has to say, since they obviously had to deal with what went on with that previously mentioned event.

The Union Gospel folks say the EWC folks “have paperwork on everything that is dismantled.” I am slammed today and do not have time to talk to their marketing director as this is not a West Seattle-specific story but if anyone knows of a specific instance involving this specific company being accused of something specific involving these concerns, please let me know (here or e-mail me editor@westseattleblog.com
