When the parade lineup was set by coordinators on Monday, Steinbrueck and Harrell were the only mayoral candidates who had their own entries. I suspected Murray would walk with the 34th District Democrats, since they endorsed him last month, and indeed he did.

We also had a Councilmember Sally Bagshaw sighting, though she wasn’t an official parade entrant.

Well, hi there, Bob. How’s it going? Since your comment is not the only one of its kind, I thought I’d take a moment to address it.

Bill Maher is opinionated, polarizing and controversial. I get it. So is Bill O’Reilly, which is probably why I heard the same comments after I did his show. (“How could you Mike? How could you?”)

Truth is, every time I go on Fox, my liberal friends squeal. And every time I show up on MSNBC, my conservative pals whine. Not because they disagree with my position – everyone agrees that closing the skills gap is something that needs to happen. No, these days, people get bent simply if I appear on shows they don’t like, or sit too close to people they don’t care for.

What’s up with that? Is our country so divided that my mere proximity to the “other side” prompts otherwise sensible adults to scoop up their marbles and go home?

Back in 2008, I wrote an open letter to President Obama, offering to help him promote those 3 million “shovel-ready” jobs he promised to create during his campaign. (I suspected they might be a tough sell, given our country’s current relationship with the shovel.) Within hours, hundreds of conservatives accused me of “engaging with a socialist,” and threatened to stop watching Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe if I didn’t come to my senses.

When I made the same offer to Mitt Romney (who actually responded), thousands of liberals chastised me for “engaging with a greedy capitalist,” and threatened to stop watching Dirty Jobs if I didn’t take it back.

You may ask, “But what did these people think about the issue at hand?” Who knows? They were too busy being outraged by my proximity to the devil. (Poor Ed Shultz at MSNBC nearly burst into tears. “You were on the wrong stage, Mike! The wrong stage!! With the wrong candidate!!!”)

Oy.

Here’s the thing, Bob – Profoundly Disconnected (http://profoundlydisconnected.com/) is not a PR campaign for Mike Rowe. It’s a PR campaign for skilled labor and alternative education. PR campaigns need … that’s right, PR, and if I limit my appearances to those shows that I personally watch, hosted only by those personalities with whom I personally agree, I might as well start a church and preach to the choir.

Point is, I didn’t go on Real Time to endorse BM, and I didn’t go on The Factor to endorse BO. I went on because millions of people watch those shows. I approached our liberal president for the same reason. Likewise, his conservative opponent. And I showed up on Sesame Street with the same agenda that I took to Congress.

Closing the skills gap is bigger than you or me or any particular venue, and Real Time gave me an opportunity to reach 5 million people. I’m grateful for that, and I’ll do it again if they want me back.

As for Bill Maher off-camera, you’ll be pleased to know that the guy was a perfect gentleman. His staff is excellent, and his after-party included an open bar with a spread I’ve never seen in such a setting. Bill took the time to hang out with his guests and their friends after the show, chatting about this and that for over an hour, and taking pictures with anyone who wanted one. Trust me, that’s rare.

Yes, he’s outrageous, inflammatory, and to many, a jagged little pill. But he’s also gracious, generous, engaging, and taller than he appears on TV.

JanS, with all due respect, the WSB and you have reminded us all over and over that the forums are a place to debate and discuss. We can disagree with each others opinions and beliefs, but cannot put the actual person down. In other words, not judge the person, just the person’s actions/opinions/beliefs. In a perfect world, we would all abide, however we are all guilty of violating that rule, including yourself. We went to the neighborhood subsequently to see if the flyers were real. And flyers like that one (we took our own photo) are the only ones we saw, on multiple poles, mostly on Admiral east of Metro Market and also near the library.

Someone sent us a photo of the flyer and we went out to look for ourselves.

The US Agriculture Department’s WIldlife Services unit can be hired for a four-digit fee to come out and investigate killing one or more coyotes. We discovered this last year when flagged by a resident of the Seola area of south West Seattle.

Our stories were picked up by TV and turned into “There’s a coyote in West Seattle!” stories but that wasn’t the story – the Wildlife Services angle was.

This story explains a lot about how they work – no neighborhood notification, for example.

As I just wrote to someone who contacted us about this, we have been reporting on coyotes for more than five years. Their presence is not news. I couldn’t find evidence of any agency that counts them, so there’s no way to say “there were 10 in West Seattle 20 years ago and there are 100 now.”

The link provided above regarding Group Health’s association with the Franciscan system is nearly 20 years old… lol! GH has associations with nearly every hospital system in the state, but there are select hospitals that are preferred providers for the HMO plan, as kurly mentioned. Partnering with select facilities allows GH to better control quality and access as well as cost. I have been a GH consumer since moving to Seattle over 20 years ago and have been employed by the company for only a few years less than that.

Margaret, the three closest medical centers to you are Renton, Downtown, and Capitol Hill. If you happen to live near the south end Vashon ferry, then Tacoma or Federal Way medical centers would be reasonable alternatives. There are free parking lots at all but the Capitol Hill and Tacoma locations; street parking in Cap Hill is a pain, as someone noted. The pay parking lots in both Tacoma and Cap Hill are not expensive though—something like two dollars an hour. There is 24-hour Urgent Care (including after-hours pharmacy) at Cap Hill and Tacoma locations.

Go to the GH website and review the provider bios to help you decide who might be a good match. Group Health bases care on the medical home model, which allows your primary care provider to really spend time getting to know you and understand your health needs–the relationship is important so it’s smart for you to do your research! I have an MD at Capitol Hill but I’m happy to see a resident when I call for a same-day appointment.

I can probably fix it. But toshiba should not be charging you 149 for anything but a replacement hard drive preloaded with your OOB software. (Out Of Box)

The recovery media is something they suggest you create on your own when it is new.

Once it does not boot it is probably little written about how to reload from the recovery partition that makes sense to anyone not familiar with the process.

Historically a key combo is used to boot into a recovery partition. However everything concerning windows 8 seems to be dumbed down to an absurd level. I have a couple of copies but only run it on a virtual machine since it has managed to self destruct on one machine and get eaten by previous versions of windows when used on a multiboot machine.

If you want to do a full oob recovery, then use this method. I have not tried it with a toshiba w8 machine but it should work. If you have data on the drive that you need, the you should have someone look at it and transfer the data to a usb drive using another machine or OS.

1) Hold down the power button for 10 (ten) seconds to switch off your machine.

Please note: Holding down the power button on the machine forces it to switch off. Any unsaved data will be lost.

2) Press and hold the 0 (zero) key and at the same time, tap the power button once to switch on your notebook.

3) When the machine Starts beeping; release the 0 key.

4) When prompted by the warning screen; select Yes to continue with the system recovery.

5) Select Recovery of Factory Default Software; click Next.

6) Select Recover to out-of-box state. Click Next again.

7) Click Next to Start recovery.

Variations… using some models from within a booted laptop. Some detail seems missing.
