7:33 AM: Good morning! We just checked around – no incidents or alerts so far.
12:54 PM: Thanks for the tips/pics – SW Genesee east of Avalon is blocked because of truck trouble. We just went by – westbound traffic is getting through but an officer is diverting EB vehicles at the top of the hill.
1:10 PM: Radio communication indicates only “local traffic” and buses are being allowed through, so we’d advise avoiding TFN. The cleanup is estimated to need at least another hour.
2:56 PM: We just went by. Still closed.
4:38 PM: Just verified, open and clear.

6:57 AM: Good morning. Though we know many are working from home, we’re still keeping an eye on traffic and transit, and always appreciate tips if you see something and are NOT at the wheel – 206-293-6302, text or voice any time – thank you!
NEXT WEEKEND: Northbound Highway 99 Tunnel is scheduled to be closed for maintenance, Friday (March 13) 10 pm-Saturday (March 14) 8 am.
4:58 PM: Two lanes are blocked at the high rise, so if you have to head east but have some discretion in when you go – we’d suggest waiting a while.
5:28 PM: All clear.
12:49 PM: Avoid 35th/Fauntleroy – emergency responders are at the scene of the crash shown on that SDOT traffic-camera framegrab; at least three vehicles appear to be involved. SDOT says 35th is blocked both ways but so far Fauntleroy traffic (to and from the bridge) is getting through.
1:56 PM: The scene is now clear. We’re checking with SFD about injuries.

6:57 AM: Good morning. Texter reports a stalled tanker truck on the EB West Seattle Bridge, and the camera shows a backup on the Spokane St. Viaduct, though there’s no word from SDOT. Meantime, WSDOT reports a crash blocking the HOV lane on NB I-5 north of the WS Bridge.
WEEKEND REMINDER: Daylight Saving Time starts at 2 am Sunday – that’s when we “spring forward” one hour.
7:08 AM: Another tip clarifies that the tanker is on the EB bridge at 4th. Meantime, SFD is arriving at the aforementioned I-5 crash scene (which is now blocking 2 lanes).
7:39 AM: WSDOT says that crash is now cleared.
2:33 PM: Avoid the bridge for a while – a crash on the eastbound side at Highway 99 is affecting both directions, as shown in the traffic-cam screengrab above. (Thanks for the tips!)
2:51 PM: The westbound side is no longer obstructed but two lanes are blocked on the eastbound side right at the 99 exit.
3:02 PM: All lanes clear. (Thanks to Dan for that tip.) We’re checking with SFD re: injuries.
4:06 PM: No serious injuries, SFD tells us – no one needed to be taken to the hospital.

5:18 PM: Seattle Fire and Police are investigating an “unknown substance” (described on emergency radio as a “white powdeer”) on board a bus downtown. Here’s the most-recent Metro alert:
Buses are currently being rerouted off 3rd Av S between S Washington St and S Main St due to a hazmat response.

7:06 AM: Good morning! No alerts or incidents to report.
7:53 AM: This might affect buses downtown – SDOT says the 3rd/Columbia lights are flashing.
8:57 AM: Fixed.
10:55 PM: Lots of questions about the big emergency response in that area, with Admiral Way blocked at the bridge over Fairmount Ravine. Please avoid the area. Police are dealing with a person in crisis.
11:31 PM: The person is reported to be safe now. The scene isn’t clear yet, though, so continue avoiding that section of Admiral Way.
12:30 AM: The scene is clear and the road fully reopened.

Thanks to Richard for the tip. He and other nearby residents got an SDOT alert that you should know about too if you travel that section of 26th SW between Barton and Roxbury, just south of Westwood Village. He says that according to the notice, SDOT “will remove and repave severely damaged concrete panels … between SW Cambridge Street and SW Roxbury Street” Monday and Tuesday. Traffic will be down to one lane, with flaggers alternating between SB and NB traffic, and sidewalks remaining open. This comes two and a half months after the latest round of “investigation” on bus-beset pavement along that stretch.

6:50 AM: Good morning! No current incidents/alerts in our area.
Weekend reminders:
1ST AVENUE S. BRIDGE CLOSURES: Tonight and Saturday night, the northbound 1st Avenue S. Bridge is scheduled to close, 9 pm-8 am both nights.
NEW TRANSIT PATHWAY STARTING TOMORROW: The new pathway into downtown for most West Seattle bus routes opens tomorrow (Saturday, February 22nd), as announced earlier this month. See the official service advisory for the affected routes here (PDF). The new pathway/stops map is also in our coverage of Wednesday’s media event there.
On our way to The Whale Trail‘s event tonight at C & P Coffee Company (WSB sponsor), we noticed the usually well-lit intersection of California/Findlay was dark. Then we got a Twitter message about it during the meeting. We advised reporting it to Seattle City Light – that apparently had already happened, as we noticed those crews arriving just as we left C & P. Their work is focused near the southbound RapidRide stop on the southwest corner of the intersection, so be careful if you’re headed that way – in any mode – tonight.
