My dog managed to leave a leash-free area. Luckily 2 women saw an anxious dog, took him inside, left phone messages for me, then used reverse directory to find my address. After an hour of searching for him, I drove home to find one of those wonderful women waiting to lead me back to her home where my dog was waiting, safe. This is the type of news that happens but we usually don’t hear about. Thanks, Linda and Neil!!

Doesn’t Costco do eye exams? I think they are pretty good. I guess not exactly in WS, but just over on 1st (?) Ave.

Well NR, you’ve done a good job holding your own on this site. I think you and JOB represent both ends of the spectrum which might explain why you’re both so passionate about your beliefs. Neither of you, or your beliefs, is 100% ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ – it just is – and through each of your own lenses.
My brother and I reached a breaking point about 5 years ago (he’s way R and I’m pretty progressive) and we’ve just come to realize we dont agree on many things. I actually sat and watched an anti-Hillary video with him – simply to learn and see where he was coming from. Gave me new insight into her but again, its one side – just as info on McCain has spin. I’ll give Fox a try now and again – dont agree with much of it and it does seem biased (but, so does NPR to my brother) yet I’ll check it now and again…. NONE of the media, the blogs, the web, the interpretation, the books, the commentary is gospel and none of its ‘truth’ – it’s all opinion – and of course your own experiences – however no reason to get THIS worked up about – especially when it’s POLITICS. I would hope you continue to chime in – you both provide a voice – but while I’m not saying ‘hold back’ – just step back and put it all in perspective…None of its worth all this frustration or angst :)

I just started my own little garden after last weekends garage sales. I’m pretty much a beginner when it comes to gardening. I used to grow a lot of houseplants when I lived with my parents, but that was a few years ago.

I’ve got cucumber, tomato, basil, and strawberry growing outside right now. So far they all look to be growing pretty well, although I may have to move the basil inside as it doesn’t look to be doing too well.

I sort of stumbled on this by accident, I wish I’d come here earlier!

T42, I couldn’t agree more. this is indeed an area in which the government should not be; since it persists in being there, what the court did is necessary and fair.

In my ideal world, the default for everyone who wants some kind of legal binding is *civil unions* and any and all religions can attach whatever strings they want and call them marriage or Irving. Since that will happen shortly *after* pigs levitate, the court did what it needed to do and that’s great news for everyone.

    JT…

    on this page alone…

i have posted 9 times, in response to 20 different posts.

that, by the way is only 2 less posts than beachdrivegirl..

so based on this page alone…. i would say that my voice.. the only one representing Hillary.. is probably underrepresented…

i am not going to go back and count other pages for you…

perhaps you are not getting it.

4 people in the last 2 hours have chosen to make derogatory remarks about me.. including you.

    You criticize my style… my presumption…my smugness… my condescension…

all this has done is prove the point of my post…

Since when did it become ok to attack individuals?

I never wrote that Walfredo was too boring…

i wrote than his two step response to everything i posted.. either anti-hillary or all about the campaign is boring..

I called his posts flaming Hillary charming…

but i did not call him names…

So why is it ok to do that to me? Because i support Hillary.. which is clearly not a popular stance?

Right now i would like to tell everyone who thinks it is ok to comment on me personally rather than the ideas i present to stick it all where the sun doesn’t shine…

until i can refrain from doing so.. i won’t be posting here again.

Oh, yeah, the big, bad Fox News. They are out to get all the Democrats, aren’t they!?!

Listen… post whatever link you want, but don’t jump down my throat when I post a link either.

You’re liberal news sites are no more factual than any conservative news site.

But, really, is it my problem that you believe everything you hear from those sites? You’re the one who is not exposing yourself to *all* aspects of an issue, limiting yourselves.

    Basically, you’re the narrow-minded ones.

I’m gonna take a lead from charlabob and refrain from posting on the political threads. The nastiness (and, in some cases insincerity) is not worth it.

There is an excuse for everything, a constant twisting of facts, condescension, lack of integrity and, quite frankly, I’m just disgusted.

I will be reading, though (I can’t wait to read all the posts when there is actually no one disputing all the lies), it will provide hours of entertainment.

    Good luck and good night!

Maybe the economy is still growing because each of us got a check from the Central Bank of China, oops, I mean the IRS. It’s not enough that US is in debt to a tune of over a TRILLION dollars, let’s just see how deep of a hole the republicans can create for Sen. Obama to work to get us out of.

By the way New Res, NPR has a long history of reporting the facts. Yes, I know, facts have a liberal bias. Just ask anyone who pays attention to Fox News.

    Walfredo…

i will admit you have been fairly careful about insulting me personally lately.. and that is much appreciated.

but.. you respond to any questions or concerns i have about Obama with one of two things.. either promoting the campaign.. or negative comments about Hillary.

Which by the way.. have been your hallmarks since the beginning…

I didn’t notice that the tenor of them changed that much when Hillary made the remarks that became sound bites about John McCain… you just rationalized them better after.

I think there should be more to choosing a candidate than not choosing another..

or than the brilliance of the campaign…

This isn’t just a candidate. We are choosing who we want to be President of the United States at a crucial time in our country’s history.

And i am sure we are blowing it.

I am far more comfortable with the democratic party faithful choosing Senator Obama because of his political skills.. they are falling all over themselves to be on what they think will be the winning team… they can’t even wait two weeks for the primaries to play out… everyone is afraid they will lose some advantage.

I am more comfortable with their self serving reasoning than with voters choosing him because of a deft marketing campaign…. that isn’t likely to stand up to Republican assaults in the fall.

The party can’t sell his political skills now without losing his core base of progressives..

and yet that is what they most need to sell if we are going to win.

i think we are backing the wrong horse…

Nader is in it again… he will stake the future of the country on his principles…

That is who I think disillusioned progressives will vote for. And they are increasing in number as the party faithful fall all over themselves to anoint the new king.

It’s becoming harder to buy that he is still an outsider as those who have betrayed progressive ideals most endorse him.

In spite of all the hype about his campaign… to a student of democratic politics.. this looks bleak.

Unless he can carry the core of the democratic party.. and find some way to appeal to the self interests of the rest… we are likely to have another four years of republican rape..

that’s not my idea of a good time.

Funny story today- I was listening to the Ed Schultz show, and Lanny Davis was on. Now, if you have watched CNN on MSNBC the past 3 months, this guy is the most annoying Clinton surrogate out there, so far removed from reality it was frightening.

Anyway, it was the weirdest thing, because he actually sounded reasoned and well spoken. He was not willing to concede defeat, and emphasized that Hillary “can” win, but he also explained how difficult it was going to be, and what the actual victory scenario would look like. It involved her sweeping the remaining contests, overtaking the popular vote most likely being forced to exclude Michigan in the count, and getting a number of currently committed Obama superdelegates to rethink there position and endorse her.

Look, I’m not rooting for this to happen, but if the Clinton surrogates had made rational arguments from the start, about how they planned on overcoming impossible math, rather then reinventing the metrics 20 times, and challenging that the sky was blue… They might have a more compelling argument to make right now, specific to electablity. Instead, no one is taking anything they argue seriously…

    New Resident…

it is not respectful to belittle someone for using personal stories to illustrate a point.

contrary to your opinion, that is not all i do to prove a point.

I wouldn’t irritate you nearly so much if it was.

You were fine with stories until someone else said i couldn’t use them…

what you aren’t fine with is the logic and links to information that challenges what you hear from Republican sources…

BTW.. since i will assume you didn’t know this… and couldn’t hear it when i said it before…

saying stories don’t count.. and experience doesn’t count.. is the classic tactic for denying minorities a voice… and minorities includes the uneducated and undereducated.

If you control the content of a conversation… you can control the conversation. You get to decide what’s relevant or what isn’t.

I don’t play by those rules because those rules have dehumanized decision making…. and that’s not healthy for women and babies…

it’s not healthy for men either.. but i figure that they can more easily take care of themselves…

This kind of dehumanization is what i find most disturbing about the current brand of Republican politics…

and quite frankly.. it’s not very respectful of you as a Republican woman either.

The Republican male who repudiated stories repudiated yours as well.. he just didn’t single you out.

look up how many times John McCain has even mentioned women in this campaign…

he doesn’t appear to think women.. or their voices.. matter much… and in that, he is very much a man of his party.

I’ve gone to Lien for over 15 years now, and highly recommend Dr. Tim Krabel there, he’s excellent with, and very very knowledgeable about, cats. His wife is a vet there too. I had a kitty (who meant the world to me) that made it to 19 with their helpful care, and when she passed away the staff sent a signed card and it was heartfelt. Their staff gets to know you and your pets, and I like that many of them have worked there for so long.
Dr. Krabel is good at discussing options and costs and likely results, so you can try to make informed decisions in balancing medical procedures and tests versus the quality of life for your pet along with expenses.
I take my two current kitties to see him and wouldn’t go anywhere else. Sometimes it just depends on the vet you see at a clinic, but I’ve had appointments with two other vets there and they were also very good.

    No beachdrivegirl..

as a Hillary supporter i don’t think Obama’s supporters are just in the way…

i would fight to the death for the right of any one of them to state their case for their candidate. I just wish any of you could do so without the kinds of remarks that are in nearly every post about Hillary.

i don’t think what is going on could be categorized as asking Hillary politely to step down. I think it has been a long time since leveling charges and name calling were considered asking nicely… What has been happening is much more like a demand than asking nicely.

And it isn’t just Hillary you all want to step aside… you want anyone who isn’t willing to ignore any flaws in Obama .. or doesn’t agree with his political stance.. to step aside..

I don’t have disdain for those who support Obama… but i do have a fair amount of disdain for those tactics.

i have point out that educated whites and blacks are not the only democrats.. and certainly not the only voters in America… and i am accused of saying those are the only voters who count.

Well.. unless Senator Obama can find some way to reach out to those voters… which he is clearly not doing… they will become the voters who count this fall.. his lack of interest in what matters to them will lose him the election.

You are wrong that there is no other reason for Hillary to stay in the race than to cause animosity…

unless she stays in until the primaries are over…. there isn’t a chance that the democratic party will pay the least bit of attention to the policy concerns of those who don’t support Obama…

There are real differences that matter a great deal to me and to other voters like me. we weren’t voting anti-Obama.. but pro Hillary and the policies she stands for.

There is something much bigger at stake here than who wins the democratic primary… both at the convention and in the general election this fall.

    Kayleigh..

what i had to say had nothing to do with my wounded vanity… contrary to popular opinion.. i am not identifying with Hillary so closely that i don’t understand the many differences between us.

or for that matter.. the objections i have to some of her political stances.

I spoke from the heart about the manipulation of our party’s politics once again by the republican party… and of the great peril i see in Obama’s nomination…

You can choose to call that sour grapes.. but i bring up points that would be worth considering if you want Obama to win the presidency.

I seem to have p..d off a few people here by saying what they don’t want to hear.

The problem is that the last 5 posts only show that some of you find it easier to insult the messenger than combat the message…

that might have something to do with why i feel the way i do today.

and might just be the insurmountable problem of the Obama campaign…

    Hey all,

I know we’ve had discussions about vets before, but we need one who is specifically GREAT with cats. We’ve been to Lien and weren’t all that impressed.

My last vet, out in Redmond, is going to be REALLY hard to beat – they were careful to try to figure out what was going on first and then order only the tests to confirm, saving me money while still providing the best care. When my kitty ended up dying of cancer, they not only sent me a giant bouquet of flowers, they found out that a friend had also sent me one, and waited a few days so I’d have new flowers when the first ones died. In addition, everyone in the office signed the card with a special memory of my kitty, or what they liked best about him. WAY above and beyond. Yet they weren’t horrifically expensive.

Anyone know of a comparable type of experience here? Our little boy Sam has all the symptoms of hyperthyroid, and is the right age for it. I don’t want someone who’s going to run tests for everything that ever existed when we’re already pretty sure we know what’s up.

    Thoughts?

    Thanks in advance!

    LOL…

    Tonya 42…

it’s clear you did take the time to follow charlabob’s link…

Much ado bout nothing I am afraid.

it’s still not considered an unAmerican activity to have dinner with University Professors.. regardless of their political views.

In fact, some people actually cultivate friends with differing backgrounds and ideas from their own to learn more…

i know.. odd concept, isn’t it.. to hang out with people who don’t always agree with you.

if you actually have insider knowldege of the process of FBI clearances… and the sort of insinuations you mentioned would be enough to prevent an applicant from service… it was good of you to point out why it is so important for ordinary citizens to have the protection of that little paper we call a constitution.

BTW.. i don’t think you want us to dredge up a list of who Senator McCain has broken bread with in the past 20 years… Now that would be some list:)

    New resident…

So now, being educated is bad? Yes, I am better educated than you.

But the most important and currently relevant part of that education comes from never ceasing to educate myself..

which you can do as easily without a degree as with. Some of the most intelligent people i know are self educated.

You are certainly smart enough to question why you think the way you do… read information that both agrees and disagrees with you.. and then weight that information against your personal experience.

    That’s what i have done.

As for not thinking it is ok to make a reasoned argument by using parables… when you deny any person the right to support their opinions with parables (their own stories) … you deny your right to use anyone’s experience as validation.

In other words.. you don’t get to use your stories of your sweeties job hunt to illustrate your perception of reverse discrimination.

worse.. you silence some of the most powerful words known to man… including the bible.

    not such a good idea.

I use to stories to illustrate and to back solid information with experience. We all do.. even you.

As to my lack of credibility.. i think you will search vainly for any evidence in any of my posts that equate Senator Obama with unAmerican activities..

unless of course you consider being a politician in itself an unAmerican activity. I have certainly accused him of that.

i think a case could be made for equating politicians with actvities that are not in the best interest of the American people… but that would disqualify Senator McCain equally… if not more since he has so much more experience.

I am afraid that all i have done is make a good case for Senator Obama being a politician… and not the anti-establishment icon presented to the voters.

But he has never indulged in the kinds of contacts and nefarious dealings that are the hallmark of Senator McCain’s political career…

and one doesn’t even have to bother concocting bizarre associations to connect John McCain directly to some pretty nefarious dealings.

in case you forget.. there is always that lovely video of a young John McCain frolicking with his captors on the beach…

they say a picture is worth a thousand words…

Thanks NewResident, that is a lovely compliment,I appreciate it.

WSMom, I don’t rely on a particular source nor do I glean what suits my argument, what I stated was fact. I agree with you that much of America is disheartened, there’s no denying that.

Is electing a closet socialist the answer? Not likely. Would it be the worst thing to happen to the U.S? Of course not but so far Obama is cutting off his nose despite his face, he keeps getting “caught”.

Beachdrivegirl, I admire your passion but your innocence (ignorance) is blocking your view. You say:

” dont think that the “list” of “shady” associates is going to hurt Obama’s connections in the fall.”

This is not pragmatic, it’s already severely damaged him. There is more to come I am sure, if Obama continues to slip and slide his way thru these things, he’ll be toast.

“Obama is bringing out new voters and pulling in independents because most people are very concerned at wehre our country is headed.”

Every election the Dems rely on the youth vote and every election they are let down. There is much fanfare but it never amounts to anything. Not a good place to put all your eggs.

Also, whichever candidate wins, more will defect to McCain than vote for the Dem winner, or so I keep reading.

” We are nearing a depression and we are in a war that never needed to start.”

Umm, where to begin with this one, we are nowhere near a “depression” and it greatly undermines the credence or your position for you to even suggest.

I do love your name, I wish I’d have thought of it.

Hey Tonya, I’m not sure where you’re getting your info, but McCain’s chances in November are sounding pretty slim to me…

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=90451351

“Americans are feeling pessimistic about the direction the country is heading, a new bipartisan NPR poll suggests. They’re increasingly leaning toward alignment with the Democratic Party and divided over their choices for president in the fall.

An unprecedented 80 percent of likely voters surveyed said the United States is on the wrong track — a huge jump from the 68 percent who felt that way in the previous NPR poll in January.

The latest dissatisfaction level is reflected in other polls conducted recently by the Gallup Organization and several newspapers and TV networks.

When asked about the job President Bush is doing, 65 percent of respondents overall said they disapproved and a bare majority, 51 percent, said they disapproved strongly.

That might help explain why, after years of near-equity between the parties, more voters called themselves Democrats than Republicans by a difference of 10 percentage points.”
