oh, wow, Tonya42..that really hurts my little feelings. I think I’ll go sit in the corner and cry now.”
Oh good, look for some manners when you get there.
Shibazguy – Thanks for the additional insight into the mind of someone who tries to keep someone else out of the conversation but it still doesn’t make sense.
May 16, 2008 at 5:50 pm #624645rs261MemberI didnt take offense to JenV, and in general dont need other people defending me. I’m all for gay marriage, and am disappointed that Obama and McCain dont support it (the whole civil union thing to me is a step in the right direction but not far enough in my opinion). I’m happily married, why cant everyone be if they want?
I’d just really like to hear how House can link pets being dependents to Human rights….
Oh, and I’ll feed the trolls all I want. I often head over to freemont and stuff carrots in the bridge trolls mouth, I think he likes them, they’re never there when I go back!
May 16, 2008 at 5:47 pm #624644KayleighMemberIf I compared you to my furbabies, Shibaguy, it would be a complement for sure. ;-)
But you said it very well. Give ’em 5-10 years, and the conservatives will realize they were wrong on *this* human rights issue, just as they were wrong on civil rights.
May 16, 2008 at 5:32 pm #624643ShibaguyzMemberTheHouse is simply using the old, outdated, tired, worn out, conservative, Republican, fundamentalist argument that my partner and I are no better than and have no more human rights than his animals when it comes to marriage, health care benefits, or the right to hospital visitation, etc.
It makes total sense, doesn’t it, that you should compare these human rights on the same level as your pets?? (sarcasm)
This is an inflammatory comment used in the arguments of opponents of the human rights of gay people to confuse those less educated and less able to follow and logical train of thought. If you tell someone that giving gay people the same rights the rest of the human population has, then you are just leading us down a path that will allow some guy down the street to marry his dog and claim them on his health insurance.
Not only is it insulting to constantly hear our right compared to those of people’s pet (although mine have pretty high placement in the pecking order around here! LOL), it is an insult to the intelligence of everyone having a conversation to bring in such dated material. Get something fresh and bring it to the table or stay home.
If you don’t want gay people to get married, then don’t marry one. If you don’t like gay people, stay locked in your house. If you don’t want us to have human rights, move someplace where they still kill us for being gay. It’s really that simple. Otherwise, don’t hide behind your worn out, lame arguments that hold no water in the face of intelligence.
Oh, and Tonya42, THAT is what JenV was refering to as “feeding the troll.” Sometimes people find it best to not get involved in arguments with folks who only throw out that kind of post to get everyone fighting. In forums, those are commonly known as “trolls” and “feeding them” is doing what I just did. So, JenV was being neither rude nor obnoxious.
There’s my rant on the subject. I’m done now…

charlabobParticipantHey, I had lunch with Chris and Hillary and probably 150 other “chosen women” (who chose to give money). I can only hope there are no pictures. I spent an hour and a half wondering where they all got the ugly pantsuits and this was before SNL noticed. :-)
My problem with McCain’s isn’t who he dines with — it’s who he hangs out with between meals and what he does. OTOH I’d dearly love to have a transcript of Bush’s day with the Saudis today…”Private time,” doncha know.
May 16, 2008 at 3:56 pm #624640rs261MemberI’d really like to hear how something deemed a “human rights violation” has any effect on canines, or felines… If he can convince me, I’d bestow the highest honorary title of “master of irrefutable logic” on him.
May 16, 2008 at 3:46 pm #624639JenVMemberrs261, don’t feed the troll. he’s only trying to get people riled up. ignore him.
walfredoMemberJoB- I’m sorry they haven’t. I have heard Lanny Davis talk 100’s of times. What he said yesterday was a complete 180 from what he has said in the past…
They have argued that Pennsylvania gets to pick the president. They have argued that the electorial map should be used for the primaries. They have argued that “this is a race for delegates” after Iowa. They have argued that the popular vote is the only true metric. They have argued that the sky was in fact not blue. They have argued that Michigan would not count for anything. Then that it should be revote. Then that it should be counted as it stands. They have argured that caucases shouldn’t count.
Many, many, many media outlets have covered the blatant hypocrisy of there arguments, that they have changed as the winds blown. Keith Olbermann and John Stewart probably doing the most amusing stringing together of the many false narratives…

charlabobParticipantCostco does eye exams and dispenses glasses and contacts. I went Sunday — the prices for exam (contacts and eyeglass) was $90. Eyeglass exam alone would have been $70. Glasses (frames and lenses) were $100 less than I would have paid at Optix. (I had my heart set on what can only be called gaudy designer purple and orange frames, because that’s what they are. So I can compare directly.)
Dr. Damien Gormley, at WS Optix, is wonderful too! My 96 year-old MIL even approves of him. We’ve gone to him since we’ve been here and we’ll definitely be back. Just wanted to find less expensive frames with more variety and Costco worked for me this time.
May 16, 2008 at 3:17 pm #624638rs261MemberI know this is what you’re looking for …House, how does your dog have anything to do with marriage, and paving the way for it?
Not that I would mind claiming my 2 dogs 2 cats and a turtle as dependents…that would rock!
May 16, 2008 at 3:09 pm #624637charlabobParticipantThe genesis of “Irving” — Sen. Fred Harris (D-OK) was a Quixotic Democratic candidate for the presidency in the mid-70’s. A reporter asked him, “What do you call a campaign like this where you have no chance <blah blah blah blah>…what do you call it? hmmm???” Fred said, “I call it Irving.” Since then, Irving has been an integral part of my life as a smart-ass (MLASA).
Shibaguys, when you have a ceremony to get Irvinged, may I please be one of the officiants? I’m sure my Universal Life ordination covers it. :-)

walfredoMemberChris Matthews last night was great. They brought in this republican mouthpiece to support Bush’s statement. Matthews kept asking him, what exactly the comparison was referring to, and the guy finally admitted that he didn’t actually know the history behind it.
Chris then pointed out, that what is criticized about the dealings with Nazi Germay and Hitler, was not that we talked with him… Talking to foreign leaders is not appeasement, and is something that almost universally is viewed as helpful. What was done in error, was offering half of Czechlosovlokia to Hitler, that is appeasement… Giving in to demands or requests. Offering gifts to gain favor. You know, appeasing the enemy. It has nothing to do with talking to them, and Bush’s comments besides being disgraceful and horrible timed, were also completely innaccurate of fact and historical context…
May 16, 2008 at 2:54 pm #624636GinaParticipantThe statement about the dog may be ironic exaggeration to make a point, but pets can inherit estates. Remember Leona Helmsley’s “Trouble”?
May 16, 2008 at 2:45 pm #624635TheHouseMemberMy dog is part of my family and I consider him a “child”. It should be law that I can claim him as a dependent (his medical bills are more expensive than human bills) and he should receive health benefits just as other children receive.
I’m filing my paperwork today.
Thank you all for paving the way for me to be able to do this!

JoBParticipantcharla…
i have decided to end my long silence with you.
“I challenge many of your beliefs–out loud–in public; that means I loathe you. Nope. I challenge much of what Clinton claims to believe, because the Clinton family doesn’t have a very good track record with regard to implementation of their beliefs. That means I hate them? Nope.”
Really? … so should i understand from this that you are incapable of making an intelligent argument without using epitaphs to describe someone you simply disagree with…
and incapable of separating the message from the messenger?
That explains a lot.
It certainly explains why i chose to quit talking publicly with you.
I still have the emails you sent to my home when i stopped communicating with you on this forum Charla.. and they are anything but dispassionate disagreement… sent to my home when i would no longer respond to your posts here.
I also still have those you sent regarding another individual who you think has no right to post because they disagree with your political views.
I think you have made this very personal Charla… and not in a nice way.
“Fact is, I believe you, personally, are responsible for much of the animosity in the political forums here. People type on tiptoe or risk being attacked. For most people, it’s not worth it, so they don’t type at all. “
This is what you chose to say that set off the pack yesterday…
That is an interesting perspective.
I am the single Clinton voice left on this forum.
So.. by refusing to accept the kind of vilification of the Clintons that you have led the pack in presenting.. i cause the problem.
Well.. you are certainly consistent…
Anyone who doesn’t agree with you and actually says so is the problem…
if they don’t defend themselves and their ideas.. you have triumphed by reason…
if they do.. they cause the problem.
I don’t think i have ever had the dubious privilege of communicating with anyone who was so intolerant of other people’s ideas…
As for all those who would post here if not for their great fear of being attacked by me… i would ask one question.
Why do those who have the least to fear from me no longer post.. those other people in West Seattle who genuinely believe that Hillary is by far the better candidate?
the anti-Hillary posts here outnumber mine at least 3 to one… and i am the sole Clinton voice left.
Who is afraid to post for fear of attacks?
I could go through these political threads and count the number of posts that don’t contain a personal attack on Hillary… including my own and those of all Clinton supporters… and stack them next to the volume of anti-Hillary posts.. and that alone would make my point.
and let me be perfectly clear.. I am talking about those that contain personal remarks on her character or call her names.. not those that refute her policies.
And in your case.. those personal attacks have spilled over onto me…
Charla.. i stopped communicating with you on this forum quite a while ago… not responding to any of your attacks.
Yet.. that has not stopped you from attacking me or the ideas i present.
I am done.
I can’t post here without your attacks.. and as i told you by email after your posts to me.. i won’t engage in that sort of behavior.
May 16, 2008 at 6:46 am #586981ws4everMemberMy dog managed to leave a leash-free area. Luckily 2 women saw an anxious dog, took him inside, left phone messages for me, then used reverse directory to find my address. After an hour of searching for him, I drove home to find one of those wonderful women waiting to lead me back to her home where my dog was waiting, safe. This is the type of news that happens but we usually don’t hear about. Thanks, Linda and Neil!!
May 16, 2008 at 5:58 am #624634ShibaguyzMember“Irving” ROTFLMAO!!
I am now officially no longer fighting for the rights of gay marriage… I am now a proponent of “gay Irving!” LOL

TammiWSMemberWell NR, you’ve done a good job holding your own on this site. I think you and JOB represent both ends of the spectrum which might explain why you’re both so passionate about your beliefs. Neither of you, or your beliefs, is 100% ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ – it just is – and through each of your own lenses. <br> My brother and I reached a breaking point about 5 years ago (he’s way R and I’m pretty progressive) and we’ve just come to realize we dont agree on many things. I actually sat and watched an anti-Hillary video with him – simply to learn and see where he was coming from. Gave me new insight into her but again, its one side – just as info on McCain has spin. I’ll give Fox a try now and again – dont agree with much of it and it does seem biased (but, so does NPR to my brother) yet I’ll check it now and again…. NONE of the media, the blogs, the web, the interpretation, the books, the commentary is gospel and none of its ‘truth’ – it’s all opinion – and of course your own experiences – however no reason to get THIS worked up about – especially when it’s POLITICS. I would hope you continue to chime in – you both provide a voice – but while I’m not saying ‘hold back’ – just step back and put it all in perspective…None of its worth all this frustration or angst :)

AshexMemberI just started my own little garden after last weekends garage sales. I’m pretty much a beginner when it comes to gardening. I used to grow a lot of houseplants when I lived with my parents, but that was a few years ago.
I’ve got cucumber, tomato, basil, and strawberry growing outside right now. So far they all look to be growing pretty well, although I may have to move the basil inside as it doesn’t look to be doing too well.
I sort of stumbled on this by accident, I wish I’d come here earlier!
