Could anyone please recommend a West Seattle optometrist? I’m in need of an eye exam and possibly some reading glasses. I’d prefer not to leave West Seattle for this!

    Thanks!

Doesn’t Costco do eye exams? I think they are pretty good. I guess not exactly in WS, but just over on 1st (?) Ave.

Whatever you do, DO NOT go to the one in Westwood Village for your exam. I’ve posted the full story here before, but in short the doctor was rude, dismissive and downright accused me of lying about who my regular opthalmologist was.

I recently went to America’s Best down in Southcenter and was pleasantly surprised at just how fantastic the optometrist was. I’ve referred multiple friends to her. My prescription turned out perfectly, and she was well informed about my (rare) medical condition, how it affects the eyes, and what the most current treatments are.

We’ve always enjoyed our visits to the doc at West Seattle Optix in The Junction. It’s the first time Sales Guy has ever been to an eye doc … that reading-glasses age can sneak up on ya …

Costco does eye exams and dispenses glasses and contacts. I went Sunday — the prices for exam (contacts and eyeglass) was $90. Eyeglass exam alone would have been $70. Glasses (frames and lenses) were $100 less than I would have paid at Optix. (I had my heart set on what can only be called gaudy designer purple and orange frames, because that’s what they are. So I can compare directly.)

Dr. Damien Gormley, at WS Optix, is wonderful too! My 96 year-old MIL even approves of him. We’ve gone to him since we’ve been here and we’ll definitely be back. Just wanted to find less expensive frames with more variety and Costco worked for me this time.

Dr. Gormley is the only person I will let near my eyes. He is great! And his staff is wonderful. They do have expensive frames, though.

I’ve been very happy with Dr. Weingeist at the West Seattle Eye Clinic in Westwood Village (not the same doctor that Aim went to, from our previous discussions, but yes, it’s the same clinic).

Dr. Weingeist helped me through an eye infection. I like him.

I go to Dr. grady Hughes but he is not in West Seattle. He is at the Jefferson Tower next to Providence Hospital (Swedish at Cherry). I have been seeing him for 20 years. He is an ophthalmologist not a optometrist. 206-322-5686.

I asked my doctor recently for an eye doctor recommendation. I thought her response was interesting. She said she feels an optometrist does a better job prescribing glasses, as opposed to an opthamologist who deals with more extensive eye problems. The optometrist is more specialized, in a way.

I did not have a good experience at WS Optix. My exam was over in about 3 minutes, he changed my prescription, and they then filled my glasses with the wrong type of lens (after forgetting about me for a week). The whole time I was there I felt rushed and overlooked. A year later I had another exam which put me back in my old prescription. This was several years ago. They were pleasant and polite, but I will not go back.
