Did you know indoor air can be 2-5 times more polluted than outdoor air?

The American Lung Association’s Master Home Environmentalist program offers free Healthy Home Checkups for ANY resident in Seattle. Our program helps residents find health hazards affecting their indoor air quality and gives recommendations on how to reduce those hazards. It is our hope that by following our recommendations, you can create a healthier home environment.

For homes that have a child living with asthma, we focus on common household asthma triggers. By signing up for a visit, these households can receive a free vacuum, dehumidifier, OR air purifier. Our program is just one of several others in the nation that are helping to reduce asthma disparities. Read more here

We need your help to raise awareness about our program in any way, shape, or form. Help us spread the word about Master Home Environmentalist so that we can continue to improve lung health in Seattle homes.

If YOU are interested in a FREE visit, you can sign up here

Hi, my name is Teri Ensley. As a volunteer domestic violence advocate, I am asking for assistance in keeping my client “Jane” from returning to homelessness. Jane and her two emotional support dogs have been through a lot and have conquered many obstacles. The obstacle they now face will return them to homelessness without help.

As a survivor of domestic violence and stalking Jane and her dogs lived in her vehicle and overnight shelters for two years. Through pure courage and grit, Jane was able to resume her professional career and rent an apartment. She has lived independently for three years, working full time plus overtime to make ends meet. Her work is a helping profession, of which she is passionate.

Due to increasing rents, Jane moved into an even smaller unit at her building. At the same time, she suffered health crises resulting in hospitalizations and leaves of absence. She had most of her rent money but then the apartments hit her with “fees” not previously disclosed, in the amount of $800. Trying to negotiate with the management has been to no avail. She has reached out to agencies and has been unable to be assisted (as of yet).

The fundraiser goal, to help Jane remain in her apartment is $1,500, broken down as follows:
    1) $800 in additional moving fees
    2) $300 remaining balance for November rent
    3) $400 as a buffer to ensure she can afford nutritious food for herself and her dogs as she gets back to work

For information about Jane, and how to donate, please see https://www.gofundme.com/domestic-violence-survivor-amp-pets. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

this is what bothers me most about what you wrote ” They just have to pick when not to lie to avoid indictment” because it doesn’t tell the whole story. they have to pick when not to lie unless there is no political will to indict them… which is happening as we speak… our acceptance of the winner (by hook or crook) takes all philosophy enables liars to prosper.

No matter which side of the political aisle you think you are defending .. that isn’t a good thing.

As for the 7t district.. you might take a closer look at it.

When I moved to PNW 20 years ago, this city was clean and so were the highways. There are lots of reasons why they are filthy now, but one reason is that the state broke off using DOC inmates to pick up litter on the highways/verges.

It has to do with an insurance battle. State reps have been letting the bill to resolve this issue languish for multiple years: http://apps2.leg.wa.gov/billsummary?BillNumber=1227&Year=2017&BillNumber=1227&Year=2017

See the article about it on kiro7 here.

Call your state candidates and let them know you want this resolved this session and their commitment to it will matter to your vote.

Edited to add: you can also comment on the bill online here https://app.leg.wa.gov/pbc/bill//1227 but that will not be as effective as a phone call or email to a rep/candidate.

What is it would you like to know?

I’ve worked in long term care for 22 years and lived and worked in West Seattle for 10 of those years.
There is a big difference between a Skilled Nursing Facility ( Nursing home) and Assisted Living.
Skilled nursing is a placement of last resort usually as the level of care is the highest offered outside of the hospital. It is the least home like, most restricted and most expensive. Running $350-$600 a day
Assisted Living can usually meet some ones physical needs and can cost anywhere from 3000 to 10,000 a month depending on the apt. style and care needed.

Currently there are no assisted livings in West Seattle that accept Medicaid either straight in the door or after a certain amount of years private pay.

Park West and Mt. St. Vincent have a limited ability to accept Medicaid in their skilled nursing. Not the Assisted Living Portion of The Mount.

A good resource for finding out about quality of care for a skilled nursing facility is http://www.medicare.gov where you can find the most recent state survey or health inspection and over all care rating which is based on a 5 star rating. This takes into account health surveys, falls, pressure sores, use of anti psychotics medications.

Assisted Living survey or health reports can be found at https://fortress.wa.gov/dshs/adsaapps/Lookup/BHAdvLookup.aspx

Adult Family homes which are privately owned and care for 6 residents at a time can often give a higher level of care then assisted living but not cost as much as a skilled nursing facility due to less over head.

    Ask me anything else…
