Hi, my name is Teri Ensley. As a volunteer domestic violence advocate, I am asking for assistance in keeping my client “Jane” from returning to homelessness. Jane and her two emotional support dogs have been through a lot and have conquered many obstacles. The obstacle they now face will return them to homelessness without help.

As a survivor of domestic violence and stalking Jane and her dogs lived in her vehicle and overnight shelters for two years. Through pure courage and grit, Jane was able to resume her professional career and rent an apartment. She has lived independently for three years, working full time plus overtime to make ends meet. Her work is a helping profession, of which she is passionate.

Due to increasing rents, Jane moved into an even smaller unit at her building. At the same time, she suffered health crises resulting in hospitalizations and leaves of absence. She had most of her rent money but then the apartments hit her with “fees” not previously disclosed, in the amount of $800. Trying to negotiate with the management has been to no avail. She has reached out to agencies and has been unable to be assisted (as of yet).

The fundraiser goal, to help Jane remain in her apartment is $1,500, broken down as follows:
    1) $800 in additional moving fees
    2) $300 remaining balance for November rent
    3) $400 as a buffer to ensure she can afford nutritious food for herself and her dogs as she gets back to work

For information about Jane, and how to donate, please see https://www.gofundme.com/domestic-violence-survivor-amp-pets. Thank you for your consideration and generosity.

Hi Teri – I don’t think the facebook link gives full visbility unless you are “friends” , I didn’t see any way to donate when I went there- is there another way to donate?

I am bumping this to keep it current.

    Teri,

I don’t do anything with money over the net, but I can help a little with groceries and dog food. If you can post what she needs right now, I will go shopping on Sunday.

Has anyone called the local churches? Sometimes they can find a few dollars where others cannot. Worth getting the word out at Sunday services too.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone that has donated to help Jane and her dogs stay in her home. Ran into a friend at Hotwire Online Coffeehouse…she just handed me $20 for Jane.

Jane met with a certain organization this morning. After going through everything, having to explain her last 5+ years of struggle and fear, they said no to her application. They offered to pray with her/for her….all she could do was walk away, crying.

Total amount raised stands at $205.00. Please share this with folks you know. If we can get 90 people to donate $10 each, Jane will have enough to cover the immediate housing $$s. Anything over that will help with food for the next month until she is back on her feet.

She has worked so hard to overcome the obstacles thrown at her due to domestic violence and subsequent homelessness. Please help me and others , help her to keeping moving forward. Thank you, Teri

Hi Everyone. Wow, just wow. Thank you for everyone’s generosity. Because of all of you, Jane was able to pay the $800 hidden moving fees (plus a $55 ‘service fee’ for the pleasure of paying the bill).

With a total of $1,000 raised, we are close to being able to cover the remaining rent balance of $300.00. Each day she is late, adds $$s to the rent balance, but with all of this support, we will get there.

Any funds beyond this will go to providing food for Jane & her dogs. (as stated in the original post). Being off work for 2 weeks for medical reasons set her back as she currently struggles to make ends meet each month. Someday she will get to a point where she can save for emergencies, but that time is out in the future.

Thank you for supporting Jane through this rough patch. Please feel free to share this post on FB, etc.,

Thanks again, to each of you, for your empathy and support of Jane and her dogs.

    Warm Regards,
    Teri
