WEST SEATTLE CRIME WATCH: Westwood gunfire

Around 9:15 pm, 911 got a call about suspected gunfire near 32nd SW and SW Trenton. Police weren’t able to confirm it until another 911 call a half-hour or so later from someone who said they had it on video – someone in a black sedan shooting at a nearby house, with a bullet hole in a garage door as a result. No injuries reported.

Heard the shot and observed the ample police response. But sadly not surprised.

For the past year, despite non-stop outreach by concerned neighbors, the rightful tenant can’t expel squatters in yard, garage, and RV. Drug use and possibly sales, midnight auto repair, sidewalk fights, etc.

Yesterday, one such squatter was arrested asleep in a stolen car adjacent to this property. Dangerous living conditions threaten those on and off property; the place has descended into the ‘problem house’ category.

Police have been responsive, made arrests, but are role-limited. City agencies compile complaints and data but aren’t enforcing trash / land use / hazardous materials/ noise / personal safety ordinances.

Will flying bullets striking the building change the official response? I hope they act before the next spate of violence takes a life.

The owner has to be involved.  Unless there is a crime happening in plain sight while the police are there, it fall under code enforcement/land use.  If the owner is not complaining about the squatters and issues, they are unlikely to get involved based on tenant and neighbor complaints.  SFD also has a non-emergency number you can call if you want to try to get the fire marshal involved in any fire safety issues that may be present.  If they’re not visible from the street there will be a limit to what they can do.  The owner need to be pressing this.

Yes – piles of garbage & junk is growing on the property bordering the sidewalk on Trenton. The piles are getting bigger every few days.  A guy was weed whacking the front yard today. Gunfire is not acceptable!

Thank you for reporting WSB. I read the address and immediately knew which house.

Friday 7am Update: all the stuff taken from the house and garage and stacked in the driveway, is now piled next to the house AND 2 trucks are parked nose-in facing the garage with their hoods open AND a newer, large truck with a canapy is parked on the street blocking the back end of these 2 derelict trucks.  (My quess: the squatters from the yellow house at the corner of 32nd Ave SW and SW Thistle have moved to This house.  Just watching for the massive blue and white RV to return.  Dahhhhh….   drugs)

Can’t describe how much it saddens me to live near this crap.  So many people and cars coming and going at all hours of the night.  People passed out from drug use in cars.  Lots of houses for sale in the neighborhood but don’t know who would buy them if the house is close to this unless they were a developer.

Moved the red car from the front yard of the house after 8 years only to create piles of garbage with broken vehicles on the side of the house. I don’t know how this type of drama can go on for a decade with no remediation. Gotta wait until the violence kicks up?

Blocking the sidewalk like that interferes with accessibility for everyone and especially someone in a wheelchair. When reporting to city mention the ADA and that tends to get attention on the problem quickly. At least that was the case when everyone was blocking the sidewalk further east on Trenton near the post office.

Sorry, comment time is over.
