AnonymousInactiveAccording to this previous discussion of old businesses in WS, it was on California and Alaska. The Senior center is further north, so maybe memories are hazy.

GenHillOneParticipantBulletin for food fans: Spring Hill Restaurant opens tonight
Charlabob – a sample menu is on 5/27 comment – I think some things are still in flux as they fine tune the offerings, it’s only been a week after all. We went last night too and everything was terrific from apps to dessert. 14-year-old (thanks grr, and would have sent you a drink had I known!) loved the duck. It must have been amazing, because I, who don’t usually prefer it, liked it as well. Our only real hitch was the a la carte bread. Seemed a little gauche and out of place at that price point.

WSBKeymasterHi all, WRT Admiral Safeway, it’s not grapevine, it’s indeed a plan that it will be torn down and the site will be redeveloped (having a big ground–level parking lot is apparently way passe’).
Nothing formal filed yet but the developers have been to the Admiral Neighborhood Association – this is our report from last month:
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=6789
including throwing out to the WSB world their question about “what do you want to see?”
ANA canceled its May meeting but we’ll be at the June meeting and guessing some kind of update will be available — TR
p.s. on the West Seattle Thriftway, which we too agree is an eternal improvement over the pre-fire version (will never forget coming back from a vacation in March 1997 and doing a triple-take to see the smoldering rubble), they have an excellent website – note the “new product request” feature:

katiebeeParticipantI posted a similar question a couple of weeks ago – https://westseattleblog.com/blog/forum/topic.php?id=878
We found a great place yesterday, but they don’t have any more spots. But in my search I liked Loving Hands Daycare – 206-763-7047 (they have a spot open)& All About Kids 206-938-4468(I think they have a spot opening late summer or fall…but you need to get on their wait list now)

May 10, 2008 at 3:32 pm #624185In reply to: Rave: Hotwire Coffee
WSBKeymasterMight we also note that Hotwire Coffee was the very first West Seattle business to buy an ad on WSB. As this is now a family-owned business running on ad revenue, their support, and that of the other advertisers who have joined since, is vital to keep WSB going and growing. (And advertisers get something out of it too – they get seen more than 14,000x/daily.) Not to mention, Lora is a cool person. And we’re collaborating with her on Movies on the Wall this year (have you “voted” yet?

https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=7384
We post a lot of requests for help on WSB and they’re all good causes but we have a particular soft spot for Hi-Yu and for the tradition of community parades that they and folks like them continue to keep alive. If you know anyone who can help, please contact them immediately. Thanks — TR

May 3, 2008 at 4:48 am #623606In reply to: Rave – Zippy Burgers
WSBKeymasterThe Zippy’s saga is my favorite story from among the dozens we covered this week.
https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=7227
Especially what emerged in comments and in an e-mail we received after the “opening day” post – the fact that the owner was a well-known punk rocker back in the day.
(Not to mention the fact that WSB readers apparently swarmed the store!)
We usually google people involved in stories as we’re writing them, to be sure we don’t miss interesting factoids like that, but I guess the missing link here was that we didn’t know previously that “Zippy” was his rocker nickname! — TR

flowerpetalMemberWashington State Dept of Early Learning has a website which permits anyone to view basic information about licensed child care facilities, including information about licensing complaints that are found to be valid (proven); it does not report CPS information. If you do not find the provider that you are looking for, the business could be unlicensed. Its a good source to use when looking at child care. Find it here:
