andreaParticipantSue (and MissK) I lived in the apartments that you posted the link too, maybe 6 years ago…back then it was a nice building. The managers lived on site and were very nice. If I recall, the rent was really great too, however that was a number of years ago….oh, and its literally RIGHT on the 54 busline (local and express) which I loved. Hope this works out for you!

SueParticipantI think Andrea referring to the Sharon Lynn apartments which I linked to above in post #25.

andreaParticipantyes, I was referring to the Sharon Lynn, right on Fauntleroy next to Fairmount playfield. I’d give them a call or look see and see what they’re charging these days…

jMemberHave you tried looking into property management firms? There’s Cayce and Gain ( http://www.cayceandgain.com/ ) and Landlord Management ( http://www.landlordmanagement.com/ ).

jMemberI rented a Landlord Management apartment that I absolutely loved. I never had a problem with them as my landlord.

JenVMemberj, I rented from them for 4 years – the people who staffed the office were great- very nice. But when my plumbing broke I was without a toilet for 3 days because their handyman couldn’t get his ducks in a row- when my house was broken into, it took them over 3 weeks to replace my broken window- luckily my boyfriend was able to cover it with plywood. When I moved in, I had to dispose of the former tenant’s garbage. I just did not find them very responsive to problems at all.
July 18, 2008 at 11:32 pm #631635
jMemberI’m sorry JenV. I guess I was lucky because I lived next door to their office (blue building). We also had plumbing problems, but it was resolved very quickly.
July 18, 2008 at 11:36 pm #631636
JenVMemberwell, yeah- you could have thrown stuff on them from your balcony if they ignored you! ;)
I think alot of the problem with them is unresponsive building owners tying their hands. Maybe your building was owned by someone who cared – I know mine wasn’t!

SueParticipantMissK, I saw another sign about an apartment while walking today: Garden Terrace, 4830 Fauntleroy (between Hudson & Edmunds) on the east side of the street. Number is 932-6737.
My only “warning” about this place is that WSB mentioned a while back that the property was for sale ( https://westseattleblog.com/blog/?p=7593 ).

fatcat1111Member@MissK – I used to live at the Skylark, and would absolutely NOT recommend it.

JiggersMemberYou cannot live anywhere near the Junction by yourself for less than $800 a month. I remember when I frst moved to W.S. almost 15 years ago, my rent was only $300 a month on Juneau St. That same room is now $750. Delridge is for people who make lower income unlike the Junction area/Morgan Junction up into Admiral District. Rent has skyrocketd out of control in W.S.

SueParticipantThere was actually a sign advertising an apartment for rent at the corner of Hudson & Fauntleroy (not far from the Junction) and I believe it was just under $800 a month.

Stormyj7MemberHelp, my boyfriend and I are hoping to find a clean 2 bedroom house or condo with in walking distance to the Alsaka juction.
(Prefer a house so I can play my piano!!)
We have a Pug and a small cat so it’s been quite a challenge . . . I have become a craigslist stalker and nothing!
Any ideas????

moxilotMemberStormyj7- Don’t know if you’ve tried yet, but I’ve always found that driving the neighborhood and looking for “for rent” signs has been the best way for me to find available/desirable places. When we were looking for a place to live, our searches on foot/by car always turned up more viable options than sitting in front of our computers waiting for the perfect Craigslist post to pop up.

Stormyj7MemberThanks Moxilot, we have been doing that and will continue! :)

LovingWSMemberI agree with driving around. I looked for a decent place when my slumlord raised the rent an obnoxious amount, wouldn’t fix or even address problems, saying he ” couldn’t afford to,” and, to top it all off, denied the house may have gone into foreclosure until the bank kept knocking on my door. In addition, we had a crazy neighbor who started lying about my roommates to the neighborhood because he was upset that we occasionally, heaven forbid, parked on The street in front of his house.
After looking for months on CL, and several unsuccessful applications with the aforementioned management companies who gladly took my fees but never followed up on them, I happened across a place with a sign on the lawn.
Now I’m the happy tenant of a 2 bedroom, w/d, dw, fireplace, backyard, across from a nice park, and 11 min walk to Alaska junction… 795 a month, wsg included for an additional 35.
Take a few drives around, if possible. And take a camera, pen, and paper to keep your hopefuls straight.
:)

rachelw82MemberI have a rental that is $650 and that includes all the utilities and small yard in a quiet neighborhood. It is not near the junction but close to the shops at 152nd and right on the bus line. http://www.postlets.com/rts/3629935

Tat2dMemberI’m not sure if I should start a new post or not – so, since I am now in the dire need of finding an affordable rental… uhhh, will just post here!
My children and I have been good tenants for the past 6 years, living in a decent 3 bdrm house near lincoln park (rent was under $900) and NO, I am not on section 8! This last weekend the landlord was out to check a funky smell that was in the house and found it to be a ruptured sewer line underneath the house – he’s been upfront about informing me that he will NOT be fixing the problem due to cost, and so my children and I will have to find a new place to live. The city of Seattle was notified on Monday, June 28 and by Tuesday, June 29 my house was issued an emergency vacate notice. I have until July 7 at noon to have all of my belongings out of the house and moved into ??? – storage. Thankfully, my children are out of school so this situation isn’t totally disrupting their schedules. However, speaking of schools – I have one child starting at Madison Middle School and another at Schmitz Park this Fall, so given the school districts new boundry maps I would like to stay within the area so they don’t have to change schools. Make sense? I should mention that although I am not on section 8, I am still considered low income due to only having a part-time job and before anyone jumps on the band-wagon to flip me *&^% about that, I have just finished a 2 year program @ SSCC and AM looking for a full time admin/accounting postion! I have friends (gasp) that will let my family stay with for the time being while I search for new housing, but that’s only going to last so long and I don’t want to ‘overstay’ my welcome. Does anyone know of any rentals that are under $1000, have at least 2 bdrms, allow children (have 3 – ages 11, 5 & 3), and are located between the Morgan Street Junction and Alki?? I have been checking with most of the management companies in the area: Cayce & Gain, Prestige, Landlord Manage., ect. I’m afraid that my current employment situation will hinder renting from one of these agencies – my income per mo. falls below the 1st, last and deposit scenario. Any leads or suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you.

miwsParticipantTat2d, you might want to go ahead and start a new thread, (just copy and paste your post here into the new one), considering the immediacy of your situation.
It’s been suggested on here by many WSB’ers that one way to look for housing is to drive/walk the neighborhood(s) you’re interested in.
I would concur with this suggestion, because when I was going out on a lot of walks last Summer, I noticed quite a few “For Rent” signs in front of houses that may or may not have been advertised elswhere.
Good Luck.
Mike
