Maude, I think it’s what you grew up with. I love doughy potstickers and think the skimpy goyza are not even worth eating. Just recently attended an informational meeting to host players from Italy who will be in Seattle this summer to play for AC Seattle. We also had the opportunity to meet the coach and team captain. Please see the original info here:

We are still in need of a few more host families and I’d be happy to answer any questions you might have here. (You can also contact Katie Milne directly who is the player coordinator and her email is in the first story). Here’s a few more details though:

Players are aged 18-23 and will be practicing weekdays likely from 10-noon at either Delridge or SW/Sealth Complex. They will also be taking English language classes approximately 3 afternoons per week. They are scheduled to play 10 games in June alone. They will be arriving the last week of May/first week of June and the season finishes the last week of July.

Ideally host families would be able to help with some transportation although there will be coordination with all the families for carpooling opportunities as well as assistance with using the bus. Although the players will be very busy, they are anxious to interact with your family and be included in your activities as available.

We are looking forward to the opportunity to host and hope you might be interested, too!

My co-workers hubby is “the bike ranger” and he came and got my bike, took it to his workshop, and returned it in a day or two. Jiggs, you are very close to my personal tastes in your second list. Very close. And I will add some to that later.

But don’t get me wrong about the Hawaiian thing. I love watching Hawaiians getting blissed on that slacked-out hillbilly yodeling. And I love that Hawaiians can get that way even without the dope – although I just might have to go out later and get Hawaiian-faced anyway.

(And even smokeycretin: Don’t get me wrong about “Oblivian.” I know I’m an ass. Think I don’t know that already? It’s understood. Why do you think there’s a “DP” persona? Cuz no one else can do the job of putting me in my place properly. And I know that sounds very sick, but what else is new?)

People don’t have to defend their musical tastes. But at the same time, I’m not sorry for saying I don’t like stuff, and I’m not shy about saying why.

My dad kinda “beat” that into me, because when I was a kid I had to defend everything I liked to him. Needless to say, he didn’t like any of what I liked. He was from the Great Depression and not one but two generations away from me musically (Swing and Big Band). He was a VERY good man, but he got manipulated by fate into doing many things he didn’t want to do, one of which was having children. And he resented that.

And so, in our household, it was just assumed that children in general were mistakes of nature, and that I, in particular, was congenitally stupid, wrong, and insane: a great disappointment to him. And so was my whole spoiled and ungrateful generation.

And it was liking being gay or a nerd (see: “This Boy’s Life”). If you’re from a city it doesn’t matter because you can always find enough of your own kind to prove to yourself that you’re not shit after all. But if you’re from a small town, or you’re shy, you’re pretty much screwed from the git-go. Until the day you get outta Dodge.

Or . . . you could always be a bully and pick on those who were weaker or weirder than you for temporary relief. And I have to admit to my shame that I did get into some of that:

I was a very expressive kid, but if I said thing one against the music my dad liked, or Ronald Reagan, or . . . whatever . . . I caught hell. So I caught hell a LOT. That’s when my dad was speaking to me at all.

But I always caught LESS hell if I could give my Dad a reason why I liked what I liked or didn’t like what I didn’t. Cuz then I could prove to him that I wasn’t an imbecile, even if I did contradict him. And that in turn reflected well on him, as my father. If you can grok that sick logic.

So anyway that’s where I picked the mouthiness up. :-)

Thanks for the affirmation wake. I liked “Ramblin’ Man” and others best for a while until I heard this live/studio version of “One Way Out” and then it was all over.

And speaking of DNA . . . in music that’s what it’s all about.

No, you don’t have to “unlock the genome,” which would not even be possible. But liking music on the one hand, and being able to unravel the strands and put it on a wall-chart in your head on the other is like the difference between taking drugs and MAKING drugs. (Not that I do either one.)

So yeah . . . and now let me introduce to you three versions of the same song that occurred across three genres and, I believe, at least as many years. And then there’s two bonuses at the end, in the next post.

Now remember: these are all the same song, but they got different daddies, in a manner of speaking. And in the meantime, nobody was cheatin on no one . . . even though there might have been some rip-offs along the way.

The rip-off was on the bizniz side, not the music side.

The liquor license was granted recently. They have been making some incremental moves – ironwork with the address and a cutlery door handle went up out front a month or so ago – but no word on the opening. I expect one day they will just simply be … open.
