CaitParticipantWhat are you on about now.
April 16, 2013 at 9:18 pm #788298
shed22ParticipantSomething to do with the urgent message WSB posted on the forum front page, perhaps?

DBPMember>>WSB is our neighborhood
Not really, Jo. It’s more like a school bulletin board where you can post flyers and other miscellaneous stuff that’s been approved by the principal.
In an actual neighborhood, two or more neighbors can get together and talk with each other freely. If one party doesn’t like the way the conversation is going, they can always leave.
Now imagine a scenario where some people are talking and another person is somewhere on the outside of the group, listening but not participating in the conversation. Because the listener is usually so quiet, the group continues talking without even paying attention to him.
At some point, the listener decides he doesn’t like what he’s hearing and raises a red flag. At that point, everyone has to leave the group and drop the subject.
Is that how you envision a neighborhood?

DBPMemberHa, you know that analogy hadn’t occurred to me when I put that picture in. But I can see now that it actually fits.
We’ve definitely lost something . . .

WorldCitizenParticipantI do keep logging in on the off chance something moves me enough to make an effort. Nothing in a while…
April 16, 2013 at 11:44 pm #788303
JoBParticipantmethinks someone wants to be booted off for bad behavior to make his point..
which becomes moot when you have to go out of your way to make it happen.

miwsParticipantDBP, this is a home, with many rooms. The largest one being where we go to learn of news, events, and much more, all of which are relevant to West Seattle.
There are several other smaller rooms, that comprise the Forums, that were essentially an addtion added to the main house, sometime after the original house was built.
This addition was put on to benefit the guests visiting the home, as the need for a location for more one on one conversations to take place became quite obvious, when in became obvious to the owners of this home—-our hosts—-that the home as it was originally designed and built, was difficult and cumbersome to carry on the more one on one conversations.
All that our hosts asked of us when this addtion was built, was to follow a relatively few logical and basic rules. These rules are much more liberal than those at other websites, including some sites that don’t have as high of a level of ethics and integrity that our hosts here do.
Our hosts have the right to run their site any damn way they please, (Hell, they would have a right to run it in an Unethical manner), just as any of us have the right to…..ummmmm…..start our own site.

JayDeeParticipantDBP:
You are an editor. Be clear in what you object to. I read the new rules. They would seem or could seem to restrict features like: SWiWS. They could also seem to restrict postings of random pictures that one decides to post here.
–
The other part about not representing that one is speaking for WSB is fairly clear and understandable. The secondary disclaimer is not so clear, and as I read it, if you post content to the Forums, written or photographic, it does not represent WSB, nor was it approved. This does not say such content will be deleted or not; I suspect this depends on context.

But that is my interpretation. That and $1.80 gets you a double espresso shot.

JiggersMemberJoB… I tickle you? How? I like Tom Leykis. I also like it when people call me a mysogonist for listening to Tom..lol

JanSParticipantempathy? There’s plenty that I have empathy with on the interwebs. What I don’t have empathy for? A poster posting something to deliberately open a hornet’s nest. Attitude, attitude, attitude. It counts .
If someone wants to deem themselves a journalist, good for them. Just do it with honesty and integrity (and humility). No…”hey, I know something you don’t know – stay tuned”…and stuff like that.
And..if a poster thinks they’re being picked on, singled out, go to the source. Cryptic messages get one nowhere, IMHO.
Of course, I am sometimes wrong about everything..it happens – to all of us.
And, of course, new meds help, too :D

shed22ParticipantYou’re right about that, JanS.

Spring ChickenMemberEmpathy? You keep using that word…

Empathy is understanding what another person is feeling because you have experienced it yourself or can put yourself in their shoes.
I think what you meant is Sympathy, which is to feel sorrow for another person’s misfortune.
April 17, 2013 at 4:07 am #788315
JiggersMemberI pray and sympathize for the victims of the tragedy, but not Boston as a whole.
April 17, 2013 at 4:11 am #788316
DBPMemberOK, yes. I guess you’re right, Seasonal Chicken.
How could I possibly know how the Internet feels when I’ve never been in its . . . uh . . .
And yet, I see that it suffers. Yes, I do. And I feel sorrow.
Perhaps the Internet, like me, could benefit from some well-targeted medication.
Not too much, now.
Careful. Careful!

Oh no! NOW look what you’ve done . . .

JiggersMemberTom Leykis doesn’t sugarcoat sht!I don’t sugarcoat sht!I don’t pretend to live in a fantasy world. Tom teaches us guys how not to be taken for a ride. Someone has to stand up for us men and he does it fine fashion. I like that picture DBP.. Great movie. I was in the hospital last week exactly in that state of mind..lol
