inactiveMemberOh that is such a bummer AK –
I saw your plans to expand on your site and I was thrilled! West Seattle NEEDS a rental outlet and a rack installer! We have to leave our beloved peninsula and go across town to get those services. Who wouldn’t prefer to stay local? Definitely not me.
I have my fingers crossed you find the perfect space! I will be a customer!

andreaParticipantI don’t know how my husband and I could ever manage without our iPhones…we were just in New England for a week and found ourselves endlessly amused with the iPhone while on the plane, on line for a museum or tour, or just waiting for our food…my favs are:
– Sextuple Word challenge — various word jumbles…super, super addciting!
– Bejeweled 2 — my go to on traffic jammed bus rides
– Solitaire
– Shazam — for those random songs you hear out and about but don’t know who sings it.
– AroundMe — we used this many, many times while we were on vacation last week to look for the nearest restuarants, banks, coffee shops, whatever
– Urbanspoon — local food options for what you’re in the mmod for and in your chosen price point
– Whats On — tells you whats locally on TV, when, and what channel (in case I want to catch the evening repeat of Oprah!)
– 9-Toolbox — super cool app with ‘9’ apps to it – currency converter, date calculator, days until calculator, each years holidays, inclinometer, loan calculator, unit conversion calculator, tip calculator, and ‘girls day’ caluculator for the ladies.
– Flixster — tells you what movies are out, where they are playing and at what times by using your current location. also tells you what will be coming out in the future. plays previews of the films and lists reviews. also tells you what DVD’s are recently out.
– MapMyRun — as a runner this is a great app. It links to my MapMyRun link on their main webpage, and calculates my time, my distance, my course on a map…its been pretty indespensible.
– Pandora — this is my could not live without app…I love being able to listen to so many different stations of my favorite musicians when I’m running or on the bus…it makes everything so much more worth while!
– Facebook –who doesn’t want to have fb at their fingertips? :)
– OneBusAway — as someone else noted above, this is an invaluable app to have to know precisely when your next bus is coming so you don’t leave the warm, cozy, dry confines of your office only to stand in the rain for 20 minutes before a bus comes along again!
I have more, but these are the ones I use the most.
Also, the ability to download movies and vidoes to watch is great for trips/car rides/etc…I watched the lastest season of Weeds on the plane ride and it was a great way to pass the time!

vincentMemberRE Safeway story: unless the manager calls, who represents the occupant of the property, the alleged drinkers could have permission to be on the premises. Your a third party, this is like your neighbour trying to call the police on your house guests for trespassing, because they thought they might do something illegal, which is the same judgement you made.

BBGuestMemberI have not been able to find a knowledgeable flooring company for sound abating commercial application… able to wash daily… that will stand up to 3 100 pound dogs. Any suggestions? I have about 800 square feet to cover and I expect it will be one of the new high tech ;-) vinyl products. Second floor, plywood subfloor currently has ten year old wall to wall. Thanks!

September 27, 2009 at 4:21 pm #678276In reply to: 2 West Seattle restaurants in “Urban Eats”
DMcGMemberOne minor thing. This is “Urban Eats” and not “New Urban Eats”. New Urban Eats focuses on restaurants that haven’t been around as long. The last New Urban Eats included Spring Hill and Ama Ama (relatively new chef/menu at the time). Urban Eats is still a good deal but focuses on restaurants that are more established.

MariahMemberI was at the dog park this morning as they were setting up for the race. It was very nice of them to give the dog parkers advanced notice of the event but some people were unaware the race went down on the trails. Most of the entrances had postings of the event but two gates did not and I saw people with their dogs off leash on the trails. Scarry… I alerted them to the situation and they said they would take care of it. I’m curious how it all turned out…

miwsParticipantTR, if the reason WSB doesn’t currently cover that area, is due to lack of available staffing, just let me know. I’d be more than happy to report from there gratis, as a service to the community. (Although I realize I’d likely have some major competition from Jiggers) ;-)

Fancy NanParticipantBummer for the Washington Puppies tonight! Looks like their whopping two game winning streak is over. What’s that now, 2 and 14 over the past two years? Perhaps the team should focus more on practice and less on celebrating their victory at home over an out of town team playing their second string QB and missing their best wide receiver.

LeroniusmonkfishMemberI had a problem with a repeat vandal/offender a few years ago…a guy that would continually key/knife my car. After repeated calls to the SPD they told me to quit “baiting” my car? I told them that I was just parking it in front of my apartment and they told me to park it elsewhere…THANKS!!! I set up a camera and caught the POS. Turns out that the culprit didn’t know me as I had assumed and was a menace in the neighborhood causing damage to many, many cars.

September 26, 2009 at 3:02 am #678198cjboffoliParticipantThanks sacatosh. I’ve owned cats all my life. But since my mid-20’s my allergies got progressively worse. So I just can’t have them anymore. It is probably for the best because my cats were like my children. I travel a lot and I’d always feel guilty when I was away from my cat.
I’d be in Paris or something and all I would be able to think about was whether or not my friends were taking adequate care of my cat and if it was lonely, etc. It’s kind of a crazy obsessive thing when it comes to my cats. So I really just can’t have them. It is easier that way. Nothing to feel guilty about when I’m away.
This cat in particular is beautiful but she’s a little needy. One of the things I’ve always appreciate about cats is their independent streak. This cat just waits for me for hours and then is all over me the second I open the door. I picked her up the other day to cuddle with her a bit and she started nursing on the edge of my fleece. She’s still kind little and she doesn’t seem like she’s getting enough attention and love from whomever owns her.
September 26, 2009 at 2:55 am #592464Topic: LUMBER STOLEN
in forum Open DiscussionwalbournMemberWe came home tonight to find ~140 1x6x6 tightknot cedar fencing boards stolen from behind our house (theft was off 23rd Ave SW in Westwood), which comes to about ~$400 worth of wood. It was not in a secured location, so it was easy to pull up, load up, and drive off.
A police report is being filed.
September 26, 2009 at 2:43 am #678197sacatoshParticipantCJB if you end up being adopted by this kitty, there’s a product I highly recommend. It’s called Outright Allergy Relief and can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/yb5a6fg or at Petco or the like. My HIGHLY allergic (as in, throat swelling shut after less than 5 minutes in my house) ex was able to sleep with the cats cuddled up after I washed them with the stuff. You have to do it weekly, but kitties get used to it – esp if you just dampen a washcloth and give them a good rubdown. Sortof like a giant mama cat…

jamminjMemberI have several kid games on my iphone to keep my 2 year old busy, as well as most being educational.
.
ABC Animals – learn alphabet, animals, and tracing the letters as he advances.
.
Bus – Wheels on the Bus song, which you can record in your own voice for your child to listen to.
.
Buddy – Buddy the bus story – also can record your own voice.
.
TappyTunes – Dozens of songs (childrens, classical, holiday, etc), that play as you tap the phone (or play by itself) – with colorful display while playing.
.
Voice Cards – another alphabet app
.
Adventure – several easy toddler games.
.
And for me –
OneBusAway – lets you know when the next KC Metro bus is away from your particular stop.
.
Facebook
.
SportsTap – keep track of all the sports scores
.
WunderRadio – listen to radio stations from all over the world.
.
AOL Radio – almost commercial free radio.
.
As far as any ‘iPhone’ competitor out there, what you have to remember is that these apps will not run on any other phone. The PalmPre has been getting good reviews, but for me, it always comes to – will it run these apps?
.
Also, my iPhone syncs with my itunes music and movies. Great to turn on Wall*E when my son is getting bored waiting at the dr’s office, bus, store…

beachdrivegirlParticipantjob, if you want an iphone and your contract is truely up you may want to look @ AT&T. My husband and I have a family plan for our iphones through AT&T. We currently (with taxes) pay $189.67 per month. Our plan includes the two phones, the data plan, and 2100 shared minutes. Looking at their site, it looks like plans for 700 shared iphone minutes would start at $69.99 a month and the iphone data plan is only $20!! This would be saving you over $80/month!!!! how cool is that?!?! and you get all of these fancy pants apps we all love! good luck to you in your search! :)
September 26, 2009 at 12:33 am #678194cjboffoliParticipantHa. You guys are hilarious. Do you actually think I’d part with any of that creamy chicken liver paté? If any human or animal gets within three feet of me while I’m eating it I growl like a bobcat.
However, in the interest of full disclosure, I am indeed guilty of feeding the cat Swinery prosciutto. Of the things I bought this week it was the only item that didn’t blow me away. Having tasted a piece of the 2-year-cure ham they were giving away free samples of (but not selling) I have high hopes that their prosciutto will improve with future batches. I don’t think they’ve had their health code certifications long enough yet for the current batch of prosciutto to have the time it needs to be great. Of course this little cat ate it ravenously so what do I know anyway.
I’d like to think that all of the cuddling and belly rubbing I’ve given this adorable feline over the past couple of days is the reason it is so attached to me. But it is probably just the prosciutto.
C~
PS: Thanks for the compliment GenHillOne! I know. What a punim on that little one. How could I resist giving it some love? Allergies be damned.
