Laconique, that’s great — it sounds like the same concept as communichi. BTW, some of us have been trying to (thinking stage) set up something like that IN WS. Does anyone think there might be a need?

GoGo, glad you found a place! If anyone else is looking, I’m totally in love with the fabulous Community Acupuncture Project of Columbia City. It’s not WS, but it’s not too far! They treat in a community setting and have a very reasonable sliding scale to really make acupuncture accessible to everyone. Highly recommended! http://www.acupunctureforall.org/

Glad to hear the followup, Schmitz Park Dad. I have also been talking to the precinct re: concerns voiced in a news-section comment thread today about the flyers that go around neighborhoods after burglaries, and have posted some clarifying information. As I’m about to note in a separate item, this is what the WSB Forums and similar discussion venues can do at their best – become collaborative chats that lead to progress.

Graffiti vandalism is the nonviolent crime that boils our blood the most, as it is so visible to so many people, and I’m glad to see so many people willing to do what it takes to fight back and show the vandals there’s just no point, STOP IT NOW. Wonder though if that Schmitz Park wall might be a nice spot for a mural like the one on the Super 24 store …

(I hope that mural’s still in good shape, haven’t driven that way on Delridge in recent days.)

Thanks again to everyone for supporting each other.

I just made an appt with Molly for tomorrow morning. The pain in my back subsides as the day goes on so it’s tolerable now. Can’t wait for tomorrow morning though!

    Thanks everyone for your feedback!

As a veterinary acupuncturist, I refer many of my clients to human acupuncturists. My favorite in West Seattle is Molly Connelly. My own acupuncturist, Ellen Newhouse, used to be in West Seattle but right now is fairly close in Queen Anne. She is absolutely wonderful and worth the short drive. She also does something called sound healing which involves using sound and singing with the needles. It’s a pretty incredible experience.

I forgot to mention my favorite game, GAIA… it’s like a falling blocks game where you tap to remove 3 or more matching blocks that are connected, and new blocks fall in to replace them. The twist is that the new blocks fall depending on which way you are holding your phone, so you can manipulate which side you want blocks to fall from, and existing blocks that are not supported can slide around as you rotate your phone. I was addicted for months.

More games: Othello, Connect Four (FourFree), there’s even a first-person shooter called Cube, but I’m not coordinated enough to figure it out (no, I’m not a “gamer” obviously :). Oh, and iBowl… hold your phone like a bowling ball, like on the Wii.

If you need someone right away, check out communichi: http://communichi.org/ They’re excellent — call or set up an appointment online and. The downside is that they do “chair” acupuncture, so you can’t lie on your stomach. But they’re great with everything — Bob and I frequently go there to “fill in.

Did you ask them for recommendations? Also, do a search of the forums — I’m pretty sure this topic has come up before and you may find someone there. Type “acupuncture” in the search window and you’ll get several links.

God so many! I think my absolute favorite is: “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. It’s a very beautiful love/funk song with a nice bit of melancholy that accurately reflects my all of it. :)

GREAT to rollerskate to, also. Any song you can rollerskate to has my vote.

Also, “Sir Duke” by Stevie Wonder and Pixies “Vamos” or, “Where is my Mind?”. Also Nirvana’s “Sliver”.

Ok. But in this particular case (and in some other traffic camera instances, and the one my father got a ticket at — which was on the Eastside) there is a turn lane with a turn light. 35th and Thistle has a left turn lane with a left turn light, and I have seen the camera flash (taking the picture of the supposed illegal maneuver) when the person has been turning as the green arrow turned to yellow. The driver had completed the turn before the arrow turned red, therefore, they are being falsely accused of turning on a red arrow because the camera flashed while they were completing their turn on a yellow arrow (again, I’ve witnessed this more than once at this light). Since it is a turn lane with a turn light, they are not required to stop unless it is red or has turned yellow before they start their turn. I’ll search the forum… I have missed the previous discussions — thanks for pointing that out.

You’ll find a lot of similar discussions on the forum by searching “red light camera.” I believe it’s been decided that the camera takes a photo whenever it’s questionable whether the driver ran a red or didn’t come to a full stop before turning on red. I’ve never seen it flash when someone is fully stopped, then turns on red, but I have seen it flash when someone doesn’t stop before the crosswalk, or just never fully stops before making the turn.

And I think the point of the cameras is to ticket drivers who aren’t following all the signal laws, not just red lights. If the light turns red while you’re passing through the intersection, it counts.

Move that useless weather app that came with the phone to the last page, and bookmark the Weather Underground web page for your city (add to home screen). MUCH better, with satellite pictures and 7-day outlook… more accurate by far, and much more interesting. It is formatted for the iPhone, too. Long URL:

    <http://i.wund.com/cgi-bin/findweather/getForecast?query=Seattle%2c+WA>

As for the West Seattle Blog forums, I’ve bookmarked them as well as the WSB home page. The forums are nicely formatted, just like the blog, they’re just hard to get to from the blog unless you bookmark it.

Ditto for Shazam, WordPress (a little buggy, but works in a pinch), Google Mobile.

Other apps I can’t live without, and I haven’t seen mentioned yet:

    Pandora – streaming music

    Facebook

AccuFuel – tracks fuel consumption, fun if you’re into that.

Thanks. I know the purpose of the yellow light and that it is a buffer between the green and the red. My point is that the traffic cameras are supposed to take pictures of people running red lights, not yellow ones. I’ve seen this particular camera flash when someone is turning on the yellow or has been in mid-turn and the light has just gone from green to yellow and it flashed — my point is that the people were not running red lights, they were turning while it was still yellow and they got flashed (and I assume ticketed). It’s not only this camera, but I have seen it several times with this camera at 35th and Thistle. My father got a ticket for doing the same — turning as the light went from green to yellow…the light was not red when he turned, yet he got the picture ticket in the mail (the picture is of him at the wheel, it does not show the light)and lost in court. So, my question is: isn’t the purpose — and the what is stated on the photocamera sign — to get red light runners and not yellow light runners?

Just wondered if anyone else noticed this: that the traffic camera at 35th and Thistle, which supposedly snaps only for red-light runners, actually takes your picture if you are going through the yellow light! I’ve seen other traffic cameras do this, and my father even got a ticket for running through a yellow light. Is this the purpose? I just witnessed this (I’m not the one who drove through the yellow light and got flashed!) several times and am curious if anyone else has seen this here or elsewhere, and if this is a malfunction or false posting of its purpose.

Miranda Taylor — Gesundheit Acupuncture and Herbs

    http://www.taylorgoodhealth.com.

This woman is incredible–I first went to her when I had excruciating hip pain and no insurance (so couldn’t get a replacement.) It was the first time I’d done acupuncture and she was great — reassuring of my fears and tough on what I needed to do. She literally got me through the year before we actually had insurance. The bob and I still see her for herbs and for AP. She knows what works.

(She’s also very active in the Highpoint community, which has nothing to do with her skill as an acupuncturist but a lot to do with her skill as a human being.)
