6:59 PM: Thanks for the texted photos. SPD and SFD have responded to a crash at Admiral/Olga.
One person is reported hurt and a private ambulance was called rather than an SFD medic unit, so injuries are apparently not major; we’re following up with SFD. An SDOT incident-response team was also summoned, to clean up a fluid spill. Avoid the area for a while.
7:48 PM: SFD’s David Cuerpo tells WSB, “Crews responded to reports of a collision involving two vehicles. They treated a 51-year-old man who was in stable condition. He did not require transportation to a hospital and was left on scene with Seattle Police.”
Just got stuck in this delay, with no advance alert of the work. Utility contractors are working on the southbound side of Delridge Way south of Holden – blocking the bike lane as well as the driving lane – and flaggers are alternating traffic, with considerable delays. So if you’re heading north-south in the area, we’d advise an alternative, like 16th or 35th.

8:30 PM: Avoid Delridge Way in the Findlay vicinity for a while – a crash on the southbound side is blocking traffic from getting through; some vehicles, including a bus we saw on the live traffic camera, are being diverted to the northbound side. 10 PM: Avoid 35th in the Camp Long vicinity – it’s blocked because of a crash at 35th/Brandon that is reported to involve a motorcyclist. The rider is reported to be seriously injured and being rushed to Harborview.
10:08 PM: Our crew reports that the south end of the closure is at 35th/Findlay. North end is Dawson.
10:15 PM: We talked by phone with Robert, who says he was one of three people who were on scene before emergency responders and had medic training so they worked to try to stabilize the rider, who he said apparently was thrown about 15 feet. There’s also a pickup truck at the scene, as our photo shows:
10:36 PM: Police confirmed to our crew at the scene that the Traffic Collision Investigation Squad detectives are coming, so that means the street’s likely to be closed a few hours. They also confirmed to us that the pickup truck is the only other vehicle involved. Its driver remains on scene.
10:56 PM: Robert sent photos from early in the response, added above and below. We’re asking SFD about the rider’s condition.
11:47 PM: SFD says the motorcyclist, a man in his mid-20s, was in critical condition when transported.
1:53 AM: Detectives have told dispatch they’re clearing the scene and having the pickup towed to SPD’s evidence room. So the street likely won’t be closed much longer.
11:44 AM: Per SPD Blotter, the 21-year-old motorcyclist has died. … This is the third crash in our area to kill a motorcycle rider in the past year and a half; the other two were on West Seattle Bridge offramps (our reports were here and here).

4:40 PM: Thanks for the tip! A reader called about this just as we were hearing the SPD dispatch. As you can see, this is blocking 2+ lanes of the eastbound West Seattle Bridge, and police aren’t there yet.
4:48 PM: Police have arrived and have the eastbound bridge down to one lane. They say the truck has lost a wheel, so they’re calling two tow trucks including a flatbed. No report of injuries.
5:07 PM: The live traffic cam shows they’re getting closer to reopening lanes by pulling the truck and trailer off to the side.
5:11 PM: Two eastbound lanes are now open, officers told dispatch.
5:52 PM: All lanes have reopened. And thanks again to everyone who sent initial tips about this!
After about three months of work, King County Wastewater Treatment District has announced a milestone in its sewer-pipe project on Beach Drive near Lowman Beach:
Crews have finished installing liners in the sewer pipes near the northeast corner of Lowman Beach Park and along Beach Drive SW.
As early as Monday, August 17, crews will work on the north end of the project area. They will install a valve underneath a metal hatch and restore the street panels. Flaggers will direct traffic while this work takes place.
Most of Lowman Beach Park remains open. Crews will restore each work area at the end of the project.
Thank you for your understanding and patience while we complete this work.
What to expect
-Part of the sidewalk on the west side of Beach Drive SW is closed until the end of August. Park entrances and other sidewalks remain open.
-Work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 am to 7 pm. The contractor may occasionally work later to finish tasks.
-No interruption to wastewater service.
-Limited street parking along Beach Drive SW during posted hours. Please follow parking instructions.
-Construction noise is expected. You may also notice noise or vibration when vehicles drive over steel plates in the work area. The contractor will remove the steel plates after pipe work is complete.
-Temporary fencing around the work area at Lowman Beach Park.
