DianeParticipantthere are MANY good reasons for this new law
~
I love having the info to CHOOSE where to pick my big treat calories; and to choose a balanced diet based on real info instead of branding hype
~
years ago, I was offered some KFC fried chix, you know that juicy greasy battered heavy skin-on (yummy?); my comment; “thanks, but no; it’s like 1000 calories/bite; if I’m going to eat that many calories, I’d rather save it for truffles” super yummmm!!!
~
re new law; read while back that somehow Starbucks was getting around listing calories on their board at the new Pike/1st Ave store; I went down there to check it out; had to search all over store for the little basket holding pamphlet of nutrition info; in itsy bitsy font; and many of the high calorie items had a note (without cream)so in other words, you still had to add another what, 100 calories/tbsp/whatever for cream; I love cream; it’s just the fact they’re still trying to hide the truth about high calories in many of their drinks, when other food businesses have to comply with the law?
~
I wish there was all types of Asian fast food on every corner; have never understood appeal of burgers

alki_2008ParticipantIt looks like Home Depot has a couple in their online catalog, but they’re currently out-of-stock. You can enter these numbers in the search box at their site: 100655055, 100661371
It looks like Google shopping has a lot too, and shows that there are a lot of websites selling these things: http://tinyurl.com/qx83o7
There are also some for sale (although not necessarily in West Seattle) on Craigslist.
Good luck!

DunnoParticipantWow,
Went to the Tennis Court across from Lincoln Park to get a good look. These two things are anything but a Honey. Heavy grafitti on the outside, inside, YUKKK!!!!
This has to be the Stinker story of the Year. If not, its the crappiest!!!
May 21, 2009 at 4:02 pm #667129In reply to: RANT- Citicard arbitrary fees!
datamuseParticipantYup, BDG. That’s exactly what’s happened. From my perspective, it’s terribly short-sighted of them. It seems to me that customers who habitually pay off balances are going to be pretty conscientious about fees and the like by nature, because one of the reasons we do it is to avoid accruing fees.
And THAT means we’re gonna go somewhere else if we don’t like how they’re doing things. Bankrate is a good place to comparison shop.

flowerpetalMemberMy previous inlaws (of a sort) barbecued a goat every 4th of July. It was darn yummy. No pig pickn’ for us; we had ourselves a goat pickn’.

villagegreenMemberAnyone read this article?
Personally, nothing beats the smell of bacon and coffee in the morning, but the whole foodies’ bacon craze and sudden pig obsession did sorta reak of cultural slumming. Kinda like the hipsters over on Capitol Hill wearing trucker hats as some sorta “blue collar” status symbol. I’m ready to move on to another animal.
How about a goat craze? Not only will they eat your garbage and clear your yard, but they’re damn tasty when cooked right.

May 16, 2009 at 2:41 am #666804In reply to: Places you’ve stayed in Vegas
RockinRedMemberI have been to Vegas twice, the first time we stayed at the Luxor and the second trip (October 2008) we stayed at the Golden Nugget on the old strip. Our favorite was the Golden Nugget. Beautiful rooms, especially the renovated rooms. and the pool is gorgeous!!! They have a really cool water slide that goes through a shark tank in the middle of the pool. My husband and I really like the old strip atmosphere and it is cheaper to gamble down there. There is a shuttle bus that takes you from the old strip to the new strip, kinda slow because of all the stops but its better than paying the high price of cab fare. I think a day pass costs about $5, and its a double decker type bus, so that is pretty fun.
We enjoyed the Luxor, but found that we didnt really spend a lot of time actually in our hotel. We preferred to go around sightseeing at other hotels and the strip. So we ended up paying for a huge beautiful room that really was just a crash pad that we barely used. Golden Nugget is recently updated and I believe they are adding another tower. Their customer service is excellent, buffet is yummy and not too overpriced. Good for breakfast. Loved the blintzes. ;)
We used the Vegas.com website for both trips and got pretty good deals with them, I shopped around quite a bit. Have fun planning your trip! (I really want to go now too)

JoanMemberVisited twice already. That green froggy is the BEST light pesto pizza around and nice, just right crust that is neither dry nor oily, perfect crunch! YUM. And FAST, too. And oooo, the field salad with house rasperry vinegar sauce, WOW!
Eardrum piercing happy-kid shrieks make it too noisy for my usual pizza buddy, however. Maybe the high glass windows and hard surfaces contribute to that? Doesn’t bother me, though.
And you cannot tell the space used to be a smoke filled karaoke dive bar! Wonderful remodel!
May 14, 2009 at 1:29 am #663699FranciParticipantIt turns out that the GF pizza chain is Romeo’s not Zeek’s. Specifically the Romeo’s on Greenwood just north of 85th.
Huge rave for their pizza and pesto bread – they also do dairy free. Its wonderful. I had some last week – it was the first ‘bread’ and pizza I’d had since going GF, DF, EF. Yummm…
O. PrimeMemberI have been going to Zatz for years and in addition to the food being great, the staff has always been pleasant and it’s nice to go somewhere where the staff actually pays attention to the regular customers and gets to know their locals by name, by sandwich, etc. It’s a fun environment and not a greasy chain fast food joint. They’ve started selling sandwich specials for $5 bucks and their cookies are soooo yummy! Support your local businesses!
May 11, 2009 at 8:42 pm #666411Sky2625MemberOK, after more research, I found this description of the construction process for a cement-storage dome in Portland:
The building process itself is also simple and straightforward. The circular foundation features special anchors around the perimeter that hold the Airform, an inflatable balloon made of single-ply roofing material.
When inflated, the Airform creates the shape of the dome. On its inside, the Airform is sprayed with a polyurethane insulation material in several stages, totaling about 3 in. in thickness. A grid of steel rebar is then placed into the insulation, making the inside of the dome look like a giant birdcage. Finally, the rebar grid is embedded in a 2- to 3-in. layer of Shotcrete. The Airform remains in place to serve as the structure’s waterproof outer shell.

L2549060MemberThe Feedback Lounge is all about creativity, dedication, and hard work; everything that embodies music and what artists go through to express their passion. Like any song that begins with that first musical note, and germinates into that one rockin’ song you play on repeat, the FBL may indeed have a few riffs to work out. But, ultimately, it’s working out the kinks that results in something classic and legendary. Like my favorite cocktail, the St. Basil, which is a unique blend of Elderflower, Lemon & Basil, the Feedback is a unique venue. How often does one get to play sit-down Ms Packman, and sit on a Kiss barstool all in the same room while oogling at rock photography. For myself, I’m looking forward to trying all the specialty cocktails, the burger, and the Bread Pudding, yum! Now if only I could get that Kiss barstool moved to the front room with my own “Reserved” sign.

SueParticipantWSMom, I won’t even let my husband speak when there’s no dialogue (since you can get so much just from watching what’s happening), and that makes him crazy! :)
Yes, please do share the links to the blogs you’re reading. I like to read the boards at http://survivorsucks.yuku.com/forums/77 – stay out of the “spoiler” part of that site if you don’t want to know (I avoid the spoilers).

flowerpetalMemberWe often use Seitan when we are cooking vegetarian. Seitan is a chewy neutral flavored meet substitute. Like other meat substitutes, it will likely not fool you into thinking that you are eating meat; but it is still darn yummy. It is protein rich and made from wheat gluten. Of course it is not good for the gluten intolerant.
There are a few brands of fake ground “beef” available which are very similar to the real thing. Especially when it is used for taco filling or in spaghetti sauce. We usually buy the Yves brand, available in most grocery stores.

rockergirlMemberLove Java Bean – since it was at the old Thriftway that burned down. New place in my hood – Coffee at the Heights is good but not really anywhere to chill since it is a small place. Great coffee and even better promotions this month. Give it a try if yuou get a chance and register to win free coffee for a month.

RainyDay1235MemberOoooh, cannot wait to try it out! AND they have THREE variations that I would LOVE (unlike the meat-heavy Papa Johns and Pizza Hut choices)!
Howser: Olive oil glaze, mozzarella, parmesan, spinach, red onion, basil, feta & fresh garlic
Super Margarita
Roma tomatoes, red onions, and fresh basil layered over mozzarella, feta cheese and our fresh tomato sauce
Frog belly green: Olive oil glaze, mozzarella, Zeeks own basil pesto, topped with roma tomatoes and a sprinkling of parmesan
YUMM!

josie2006MemberWent tonight and had disappointing service—after repeating our order 3 times to the server who didn’t seem to want to write anything down, the pizza was still wrong when it came. And instant iced tea–yuck. That being said, the pizza was pretty good. Place was packed too.

April 30, 2009 at 2:50 am #590682Topic: Pho Than Brothers on California
in forum Open DiscussionluludogMemberI actually had good Chicken Pho here, but I was totally disgusted by how incredibly dirty this place is. The window sill was thick with dirt (way beyond dust), the carpets appear they have never been vacuumed, and what really took me over the edge was the bathrooms. YUCK. I purposely did not look inside the kitchen for fear of what I might see. Despite this… the place continues to have many customers. I feel like I should report this to the Health Department…but thought hearing from others first might be good.
