Flowerpetal..having grown up on the east coast, mortadella was a normal commodity, esp. in sub sandwiches (it’s yummy – esp. if it has pistachios in it). I just found it humorous that the item on the Feedback menu was morteBella…hence, my question.:)

My absolute favorites are Cafe Ladro, Diva Espresso and Cafe Rozella.

I went to Hotwire for the first time this week and it was also very yummy coffee. I like the atmosphere at C&P but wasn’t too impressed with the latte I had there. Uptown has that delicious foam. Mmmm coffee.

I have taken three classes at PCC and loved them all. Huge rave! The instructors were great. You also get a $10 off coupon for attending. We took Soups, Brazilian cooking, and Northern Spanish cooking. Yummm….. The soups class was hands on. We met great people and had a blast.

Just in, being added to the Events Calendar, but thought we’d mention here too

Two events are upcoming at the Log House Museum:

Tuesday, May 5, 7 p.m. at the Log House Museum, Alan Stein and Paula Becker of HistoryLink will present a slide show and talk based on their forthcoming book, The Alaska/Yukon/Pacific Exposition.

One hundred years later, hear how Seattle celebrated its coming-of-age with a world’s fair on the grounds of the University of Washington.

Event is free but donations are always gratefully accepted.

Tuesday, June 2, 7 p.m. at the Log House Museum, Joan Hockaday talks on “The Olmsted Legacy in West Seattle” from her new book, Greenscapes, Olmsted’s Pacific Northwest (WSU Press 2009).

Hockaday is a gardener historian who researched the Schmitz family and West Seattle connection in the archives of the Log House Museum. Frederick Law Olmsted traveled to Seattle to design the Alaska-Yukon-Pacific Exposition and offered his advice to the Parks Board, including Ferdinand Schmitz.

Event is free but donations are always gratefully accepted.

Olarn Thai Bistro! Our new fave, on California. Across the street from West Seattle Nursery (in a converted Taco Bell). The food is fantastic (esp. for takeout). Best trout salad (yum pla) I’ve ever had. Warm bananas in coconut milk for dessert – mmmm!

that sounds like a really awful experience. whether the owner is rude or not though, their food wasn’t even good enough to go back for a second try. the one time I was there, the food tasted like it had been flavored with barbecue sauce. it was bad. I always turn to Buddha Ruksa when craving Thai food. had some tonight in fact. yum.

Took a friend to Full Tilt today, he had the chili and lime ice cream. Two scoops. He made “yum, yum, yum” noises down to the last bite.

He is happy, happy, happy. He can ride the 128 and get ice cream and visit the store across the street, too! That has been his one drawback to living in West Seattle, having to transfer downtown to purchase his favorite magazines.

Love Mae Phim! Right down the street from my office and you can smell it when the wind is just right…yummm…the freshest and tastiest Thai this side of Thailand. I do like Buddha Ruska as well though for staying in WS…their vegetable grill with tofu has got to be one of the most beautifully displayed dishes around and its so tasty!

I almost went to dinner at Lampreia about 5 years ago because I heard it was good. Instead, I wound up the street at Axis(no longer around) for dinner which was so..so..mediocre. I was on a date and she wanted to go to Axis instead. Uggghhhhh… Oh yeah,I did get some yum yum that night after I got her hammered at Ohana’s, so I’m not complaining.

Yumpears – If you’re paying $32 (before tip) to have an adult Newfoundland groomed, with light fur trimming, you’re extremely lucky and under paying.

To the OP – I second Canine Casa and The Wash Dog.

Since we’re all discussing national issues such as Tea-Bagging, I thought I’d throw one of my big concerns: the loss or diminishment of Northwest businesses. I think the feds handed Washington Mutual to east coast Chase Bank on a silver platter. Safeco is gone. There’s a rumor that one major coffee chain is poised to be purchased by Yum Foods. Each time we lose a major local business, we lose jobs, we lose community re-investments, we lose contributions to the arts and non-profits. When I create a list of business that have been sold or moved from the Northwest in the past 30 years, it is long and alarming.

I also think that the infamous lawsuit against Microsoft for being a monopoly was really just a power grab. Microsoft is far from being a monopoly. You can buy a Mac, you can Linux or even Sun. The problem was not that Microsoft was a monopoly, the problem was that it was a multi-billion dollar company that was not paying politicians. The east coast saw the wealth and made their move to get some. Microsoft has learned that it needs lobbyists and it needs to pay politicians or more lawsuits would follow. It is bald corruption and it costs us plenty.

Absolutely intentional threadjack, because I like seeing which weeds these things wander off to:

Who cares what his title is, Jan–he’s just *cute*; like movie star cute. And that’s not why I picked him, but it didn’t hurt that the last face I saw, before the Aussie put me under, was drop dead gorgeous. Plus he’s friends with the lead singer of GBS our favorite Canadian band. (Yup, I’m that shallow — so sue me.) :-)

Yup – i’ve been successful at cutting out most of his mats when he’s super relaxed. Except THESE mats…they are by his BUTT! LOL! I am afraid to just start cutting in that area and plus, he’ll kick me if I try!

I brush him every couple of days – except in the area where he’s got these new mats :-( He’s so big (he’s also part Maine Coone) that he has a hard time reaching back there.

I’ve never attempted to give a cat a bath. I thought about trying though – before taking him somewhere else, so we’ll see how that goes!

Thanks for the responses – I appreciate it! :-)

    AdamonAlki…

let us know when you are going to be here in june… there has been some back channel chatter about putting together a BBQ in one of the parks that includes a cottage cheese pot luck buffet and maybe a taste off…

    Sue..

our last get-together was in the upstairs room at Big Al’s because they offered us space.. but it was kid and dog friendly… and the pot luck was really great.

Big Al’s has a great upstairs space and their beer smells yummy…

    luigilinguini…

i think a get together is a great idea.. and i like the idea of an after-tax party.. but would like to see a little food mixed in with the booze..

please let us all know when/where…

Not a meal, but Bakery Nouveau has yummy macaroons that are gluten-free! And I noticed GF cookie dough in the freezer section at Metropolitan Market.

Oh my gosh, we inherited a Yucca in our yard, and we dug the whole thing out — so we thought! — last year, and this year it’s like nothing ever changed. It doesn’t look spindly at all; in fact, it seems our front yard gets enough sun all summer that the yucca thinks it’s in the dessert. Other than a voodoo curse, not sure how to kill it.

The palm trees, though — our next-door neighbor has one and it looks awful, like a big stick poking up out of the ground. It is showing signs of sprouting a few new blades from the top, though, at least as far as I can tell. Still, it’s not a pleasant thing to look at.

um, used the pass-through last night and said feces are still there…now spread by footsteps and dried, yuck.

Did anyone ever have an idea re: someone to call?

I can tell you why I have a Yucca in my yard. It started out as a 4 inch spiky addition to a pot of pansy’s and never died. After three or four years surviving in a pot, I threw it in the ground and now it’s as tall as I am. That’s one tough plant!

The immigrant plant that I really hate as a perpetual eyesore here is yuccas.

This is a desert plant. Seattle not desert. Yuccas always look sick and yellow and spindly here. And there seem to be so many of them! Who decided it was a good idea to plant yuccas all over Seattle?

Luigilinguini – That would be PERFECT! My kid has 2 black eyes right now and she’d probably be crying! I already have a visual in my head.

I called Westwood Village and they don’t have anything. Thanks for the info, I’ll keep my eyes open…… or head out to the mall, Yuk!

Yum yum yum! I love Lee’s Asian. Consistently good. The crispy calamari is delicious too as is the crispy tofu! And, the hot and sour soup! I love it there. No wonder it is always packed. West Seattle has so many gems. I am grateful to live here.
