Sounds like some folks from here should band their efforts together and write a strongly worded letter to the Junction Association now, and then half way through the year so they can take it into consideration.

The Junction Association published the first band lineup on June 3rd (https://westseattleblog.com/2010/06/first-look-at-music-lineup-for-west-seattle-summer-fest-2010), and kept revising it since.

I for one, love that they have music so late during the first two days and I love that there are that many bands that want to play here.

There are no downtown exits planned for the tunnel. This is not new news. This has been part of the plan since the tunnel deal was announced. Also, the ways that will be available to get to downtown have been reported extensively here – I’ve been the only reporter at the meetings of the South Portal Working Group, which has dealt expressly with the south end – the part that is about to get rebuilt, and how it ties into downtown and West Seattle.

We don’t editorialize so we have no position pro- or con-tunnel. But there has been an abundance of information available. We’ve had links, maps, articles, you name it. If you would like to review past coverage, the Alaskan Way Viaduct coverage category is here.

Regarding tolls, yes, the state expects to have tolls for the tunnel. Here’s our report from last January:

The South Portal Working Group meets again July 28, and as always, we will report what’s new either during the meeting or immediately afterward. The state has tons of information available at its website http://www.alaskanwayviaduct.org if you want to catch up on the various aspects of the project, besides reading our back articles.

P.S. To the issue of specifically how you would get into downtown, while it’s a little hard to wade through without context (and I still can’t completely explain it off the cuff despite having covered so much of this process), this is the presentation of the current “south portal alignment” showing the streets you would use to get into downtown.

An important point that should be reiterated here is that part of the intent of the new 4th Avenue offramp from the Spokane Street Viaduct’s eastbound side, is that some might use it to get into downtown rather than 99.

But yes, the bottom line remains, this will be much different from the convenient Seneca-offramp-dumping-you-right-into-downtown way things are now. The tunnel also will end further north than the Central Waterfront section ends now.

I’m glad (truly, unemployment stinks) that it sounds like things have turned around for you, but as acemotel pointed out above, but for the grace of god/goddess/dog/whatever, go I. And when you set the whole thing up with statements like “their life sucks and I’d be drinking too,” I just can’t give you much empathy. I’m happy to see I have other neighbors who know what that word means.

Oh, I wish I saw this post earlier! I wholeheartedly recommend Ryan Ashley from Ashley Construction and Remodeling (206-422-9344). Before he started his own company, he used to do a lot of drywall work for UW. What’s more, the drywall repairs and installation he completed around my house are impeccable — there isn’t a line or seam to be found anywhere.

Originally, Ryan came to me as a recommendation from my amazing realtor Scott Monroe (I love that man — see my review of Scott here: https://westseattleblog.com/forum/topic/the-real-deal-best-real-estate-agent-in-ws).

Over the course of my project Ryan:

1) Repaired at least 50+ holes that were made by my plumber, electrician, and the spray insulation installation. It should be noted that some of the holes he repaired were on 80 year old lath and plaster walls.

2) Installed new sheetrock in a number of closets, ceilings, walls, and stairways. He even installed sheetrock over some exposed AC heating vents in the basement.

2) Completed the carpentry work as well as sheetrocked and mudded a custom arch between my kitchen and dining room (it looks amazing btw — I’ll be happy to send pictures upon request).

On each, Ryan did impeccable work. I can’t see a line or seam anywhere and he even managed to match the texture that was on the walls nearby. Pricewise, Ryan is very reasonable and will likely come in lower than the bigger companies on this page. More importantly (in my opinion at least) he is a great communicator and very easy to work with. I honestly can’t recommend him enough.

He owns a general contracting company and can complete other projects around your house as well. All in all, highly recommended!

I’ve lived in Seattle my whole life and West Seattle for the past 4 years and have never been to the Hamilton Viewpoint before today. I can’t believe I’ve never heard of it before. It’s gorgeous up there!

One question though…Is it a complete waste of time to go up there with a group of 10 or more. In other words, does the park get packed every year for the show. Is it like another Gasworks Park scene?

As a hygienist I would warn against only looking for a practice with updated equipment. I’ve worked in some top-of-the-line offices with questionable diagnoses and billing practices (the money for the equipment has to come from somewhere). They also really like to push cosmetic procedures.

It’s best to research the dentist’s education and licensing history. You can look up any healthcare provider’s license on the DOH website:

Skylark has a lot of great menu items (WSB used to be mentioned on the menu – might still be – because the tater tots got a huge shoutout here three years ago) but they’re becoming legendary for weekend brunch. 9 am-3 pm, why gosh, that’s just an hour away. We also recommend the chocolate chip pancakes. Have never tried the carafe of mimosas; can’t really drink any more because in this job, you never know when some big breaking news story’s going to erupt.
