    Cardiff it doesn’t sound like New Native is defending bus drivers, her husband was hit by one at a cross walk then attempted to leave.Its high tide defendinding them. It’s not right that they damage someone’s car then leave. They are required by law to stick around and report it. Otherwise it’s hit and run. I would think parents of children on the bus would appreciate knowing their child’s driver is careless.Afterall the driving is carrying their precious cargo. Shame on those driver, Thank you to the drivers who are responsible, it’s not an easy job.

    What is it would you like to know?

    I’ve worked in long term care for 22 years and lived and worked in West Seattle for 10 of those years.
    There is a big difference between a Skilled Nursing Facility ( Nursing home) and Assisted Living.
    Skilled nursing is a placement of last resort usually as the level of care is the highest offered outside of the hospital. It is the least home like, most restricted and most expensive. Running $350-$600 a day
    Assisted Living can usually meet some ones physical needs and can cost anywhere from 3000 to 10,000 a month depending on the apt. style and care needed.

    Currently there are no assisted livings in West Seattle that accept Medicaid either straight in the door or after a certain amount of years private pay.

    Park West and Mt. St. Vincent have a limited ability to accept Medicaid in their skilled nursing. Not the Assisted Living Portion of The Mount.

    A good resource for finding out about quality of care for a skilled nursing facility is http://www.medicare.gov where you can find the most recent state survey or health inspection and over all care rating which is based on a 5 star rating. This takes into account health surveys, falls, pressure sores, use of anti psychotics medications.

    Adult Family homes which are privately owned and care for 6 residents at a time can often give a higher level of care then assisted living but not cost as much as a skilled nursing facility due to less over head.

Don’t be so damned condescending as to think you only know about these things. And don’t generalize…one protesting senior citizen(As is their right) does not equal every senior citizen that exists.(Are you sure you weren’t speaking of your dear president at one of his rallies? No comment about that?) More than that, now at the the ripe age of 71, life being as short as I have finally found out, I am simply saying that you’re so full of it, your chin is turning brown. Maybe someone needs to slap you silly, too. There, I, too, condoned violence. But you took your football and ran away when no one agreed with you, poor thing. You really have some serious personal negative feelings towards JoB, don’t you?)

    Thanks for the tips everyone! I also appreciate the offers to ride along with me to show me the route. That says a lot of good about the cycling community. I’m such a noob though, that I think I’ll try it myself as I have a lot to figure out and don’t want to slow anyone down. I haven’t ridden a bike in years and just got a used one today to start riding again. They say you never forget how to ride a bike, but I’ll tell you that it felt totally foreign to me riding today!

    Now a second question for the community; where’s the best bike shop to get gear/accessories, and get a tune up? I heard there was a shop in West Seattle that closed recently. Where does everyone go now?

    I would like to share some facts about toddlers from the scientific studies and research that have been done so far, breaking it down into categories such as; Educational, Cognitive, and Social areas of development. Toddlers show strong connections between rhythm skills and pre-reading abilities in toddlers (Educational). Music enhances the toddler’s fine motor skills, or the ability to use small, acute muscle movements to write, use a computer, and perform other physical tasks (Cognitive). Infants recognize the melody of a song long before they understand the words. They often try to mimic sounds and start moving to the music as soon as they are physically able. Toddlers love to dance and move to music. The key to toddler music is the repetition of songs which encourages the use of words and memorization. Silly songs make them laugh. Try singing a familiar song and inserting a silly word in the place of the correct word, like “Mary had a little spider” instead of lamb. Let them reproduce rhythms by clapping or tapping objects.

    And as children do, they grow up to be teens. Students who take music in middle school score significantly higher on algebra assignments in 9th grade than their non-music counterparts (Cognitive). Dinorah Marquez, Program Director of the Latino Arts Strings Program says, “Our school has created a culture that considers the music education part of our programming, as a real partner in the full development and academic achievement for our students.” One teenager is quoted as saying, “Music is my life. It’s a safe haven.” Considering the stresses of today’s modern world and the increasing rates of violence and suicide in children, I feel music education is a possible solution for some in aiding them deal with their modern challenges. In the past, secondary students who participated in a music group at school reported the lowest lifetime and current use of all substances (tobacco, alcohol, and illicit drugs). Most likely, keeping oneself challenged and fulfilled in healthy ways will stem straying towards destructive behaviors in general, in my humble opinion.     I’m sure it’s nothing personal. Woodpeckers in general are less tolerant of humans than birds that are somewhat dependent on them, like crows. Just be glad they aren’t drilling holes through your siding! They are very beautiful, though. Ubiquitous in Arbor Heights. Put out some suet this winter and you may see more of them.

    you might ask yourself.. why that particular supreme court judge?
    i can probably answer that.. because he had paid his political not judicial dues and because a Yale alum.. George Bush.. campaigned for him in the background.

    you might ask yourself.. why now? Because once having settled on Kavanaugh there wasn’t time to get another justice seated before the midterms.

    So.. they doubled down on a troublesome candidate who might not have seen the last of his troubles yet. He has been charged with ethics violations in his last federal judgeship.

    will he be cleared of those charges? That remains to be seen. If he is not cleared of those charges, can he still keep his seat on the Supreme Court? That remains to be seen too. Either way he is currently sitting on the Supreme Court.

    Would i have had problems with any candidate the Federalist Society put forward. Of course.. and everyone on the short list that Kavanaugh was added to at the last minute was in fact put there by the federalist society.

    Would every candidate have faced ethics violations? Probably not.

    You see, i refuse to believe that every frat boy in the 80s behaved the way the Truth and Courage club .. otherwise known as the “tit and clit” club.. did. I refuse to believe that every frat boy in America boasted about their behavior in their yearbook.

    I refuse to believe that every frat boy in America who was a member of such a club and boasted about their youthful exploits wouldn’t have stood before the committee and apologized for the excesses of their youth.. excesses both they and their best friend documented…

    evading giving a truthful answer to direct questions made in that context is lying… and you know that.

    What else did he lie about? there are long lists but unless the other 98% of his records are released those lies will be difficult to prove.. won’t they.

    This supreme court nomination and the circus that has followed was shameful.

    As for whether he is my president or not… sorry.. he may be the President of the United States but i wanted nothing to do with him long before idiots allowed him to be elected… and his behavior as President hasn’t changed my mind.

    Actually, that’s a pretty good route. King street and second avenue in that area are real sleepers, traffic wise. I prefer Occidental, and ride through the two park areas when headed to Pioneer Square. Heading further into town, I pick up the protected bike lane on second at Yesler and take it all the way north through town.
    Trickiest intersection is getting from the Trail to East Marginal Way northbound. I like to use the ped/bike crossing to get across E Marginal and then turn north, avoids a Kamakazee run across from the trail/sidewalk on the left side to the marked bike lane on the right.
    Easy-Peezy 5 mile ride from Andover/Delridge to Pioneer square.

    Again, incorrect. Justice Neil Gorsuch sits in the seat that President Obama wanted to name Merrick Garland to. Justice Kavanaugh is sitting in retired Justice Kennedy’s seat.

    That aside, please see my first posting about a sitting lame duck president and the games that Congress plays. It is known colloquially as The “McConnell rule” but before now it was known as the “Biden rule”. It’s not a legitimate rule per se, but basically it states that a president shouldn’t appoint a supreme court nominee during the year leading up to an election year. It’s ridiculous and petty but it stands to reason, to the victor go the spoils.

    I guess we’ll see if RBG stays on and whether or not the president will be offered a third seat to fill. 2:30pm 10/11/2018

    Now that you know a little about us, let’s talk about you: Are you a personable, highly organized and customer-obsessed individual who would love to join our team as a retail associate? Are you excited about growing with a rapidly expanding small business and helping to take it to the next level?

    You’ll work part-time to start, a flexible schedule with some alternating weekends. We’d love it if you have familiarity or, better yet, some experience in one or more recreational activities (cycling, running, boating/kayaking, camping, hiking, snowboarding/skiing, etc.), and/or some team sports (soccer, baseball, etc.). Retail or consignment experience is preferred, but bottom line: If working with people energizes you and you feel confident about sales and customer service, that’s most important to us.

    Some light lifting of bikes, sporting goods and boxes are required.

    what lovely piece of double speak .. if Mr Trump was not mocking the victim … why did he not only acknowledge the laughter but participate in it?

    You don’t approve unless you can somehow label that behavior “honesty”? Where was the honesty in his remarks?

    No, i can’t remember every event i attended. but i certainly do remember every time i was pressed with unwelcome sexual attention that made me uncomfortable.. or when i inflicted it on others..
    and although i am sure i have my share of drinking tales i could tell.. i never boasted about them in writing or in speeches. Never once have i glorified getting drunk to the point of stumbling home drunk or engaging in sexual high jinks… you really should look up the meaning of the terms in Kavanaugh’s yearbooks. I did.

    deflecting the blame on democrats does not change either the behavior of Kavanaugh or his belligerent behavior when questioned about it.

    as for whether i claim Mr Trump as my president.. nope i don’t. He happens to be the sitting President of the United States but there is a lot of question as to whether his election was the legitimate choice of the people and when the dust settles i don’t think this is going to be a President .. or a Congress.. anyone is proud to claim.

    Thank god the midterms aren’t far away. We will see what the people have to say then…

    Well, as it’s been almost 24 hours (this time) I’ll go ahead and attempt a repost.

    Again, and again. The deflection of the FACT that the democratic leadership had prejudicial information and did nothing with it. Glossed over and “forgotten” Just as the left will/has treated Dr Ford. SHAMEFUL

    I will NOT be an apologist for the president (point of clarification – he’s YOUR president too – unless you are a citizen of another country, in which case, welcome) But what I can say, rationally, is that if you open yourself to the public, be prepared to show all your shiny-ness and prettiness, but also be prepared to show all your warts and ugliness.     This is the second time you have brought that up, yet you say nothing about the abuse democrat leadership foisted upon Dr Ford by holding onto her letter and testimony. Whatever encouragement her congressional representative told her, as well as Sen. Feinstein’s office to delay her testimony. Hopefully Sen. Grassley will get a hold of that correspondence and make it public along with the findings of the FBI report. I don’t think that I will hold my breath for that.

    As for who Justice Kavanaugh associated with…We all run in circles. Sometimes those circles overlap with “others”. I know for one, that my circles overlapped when I was a teen. Did yours? We would go to (gasp) drinking parties and behave as teens do. Nobody “encouraged” anybody to go to them (well aside from some normal teenage “peer pressure”) And Justice Kavanaugh did not lie about his participation – so I don’t really know where you’re going with that….But I know for certain (and not to quote my age, but I am similar to Justice Kavanaugh’s) I can most certainly NOT remember the majority of the events at those parties. Not because of the beer, but because of the time since….Can you remember clearly ALL the events you attended? I think not, and clearly neither can anyone else related to the Kavanaugh investigation. Except Dr Ford and Justice Kavanaugh.

    You mention “lies told at the hearing”. I await any citations you can provide. If you have prejudicial information, please disclose it. I would do so publicly.

    And Hillary?? – You’re grasping….

    all i can do is sigh and hope that rationalizations like yours encourage people who don’t think this next election matters to vote.

    Your President mocked a woman who reluctantly came forward to tell her story and who stated that her most painful memory from that episode was the laughter of the young men. He not only allowed an entire audience of supports to laugh at her.. he encouraged them.

    i would love to hear how you rationalize that.

    as for the link to Think Progress.. what i linked to was the clip of Shaw saying exactly what the article reports he said…

    to paraphrase.. the FBI asked the questions the people who mattered thought were important.. the people controlling the process. The questions the democrats on the committee wanted answered weren’t important because they were just politically exploiting the situation.

    the “situation” the democrats were “exploiting” was accusations of sexual misconduct by Kavanaugh by more than one woman backed by sworn affidavits sent to the FBI by witnesses to the pattern of conduct… and lies told during the hearing.

    allegation and affidavits the FBI did not explore because they weren’t part of their mandate.. the mandate from people who mattered.

    Democrats didn’t encourage Kavanaugh to hang out with the crowd of frat boys who bragged about drinking to excess and sexually harassing women. Democrats didn’t lie about his participation.

    but hey.. maybe you can find a way to blame Hillary. She was older and wiser than Kavanaugh at the time and she didn’t stop him.
