JenV…I took those terms directly form Caduceus’ post. Besides, isn’t that the terminology that you would use?

I’m also not trying to make anybody feel bad. If you truly believe what you believe, what do you have to feel bad about?

I’m glad you are happy with your life, no sarcasm intended. I just believe differently than you.

I don’t feel bad about my personal choices in life. But you all are using your emotionally charged terms like FETUS, EMBRYO to try to make people feel bad. I have no shame, no regrets for anything I have done.

I could have had a child- and then abandoned it like my mother abandoned me- would that make me a better or worse person??

You can all go to hell with your holier than thou attitudes. Look down on me all you want. I am happy with who I am and where I am in life. And I will continue to fight for women’s rights.

No one’s mind is going to be changed here.

Currently, the law protects a woman’s right to decide what happens to her body. I do not take this right for granted.

That is why I vote I do.

    That’s it.

Riany Day 1235…”Old Republican White Men”? Wow…what a generalization that is.

    How about this bumper sticker…

I’M GLAD I DIDN’T KILL MY UNBORN BABY BECAUSE NOW THEY ARE AN HONOR STUDENT AT WASHINGTON MIDDLE SCHOOL

Caduceus..I don’t think I have been vague at all and I guess my comments could be abrasive if you don’t agree with my opinion. Other people’s comment are abrasive to me because I don’t share their opinion. As far as meat goes, I was kinda thinking a fat Jak’s steak sounds pretty good right now…

    NewRes…word-up on that point.

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you’re “exotic,

    different.”

    * Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

    * If your name is Barack you’re a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

    * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you’re a maverick.

    * Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you’re well grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first

black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive

that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law

professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with

over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate’s Health and Human

Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a

state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the

Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran’s Affairs

committees, you don’t have any real leadership experience.

    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council

and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as

the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you’re qualified to

become the country’s second highest ranking executive.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2

beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you’re not a real

    Christian.

    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your

disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you’re a Christian.

    * If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the

proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

    * If, while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other

option in sex education in your state’s school system while your unwed teen

daughter ends up pregnant, you’re very responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a

prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community,

then gave that up to raise a family, your family’s values don’t represent

    America’s.

    * If you’re husband is nicknamed “First Dude,” with at least one DUI

conviction and no college education, who didn’t register to vote until age

25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska

from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

    OK, much clearer now.

One thing I find interesting, or maybe contradictory, is this:

If having an abortion is your “right” and no one can take that “right” away from you (you are protected by law), why would you feel “bad” about that “right”?

I’m certainly not demeaning anyone with this question, but trying to understand the logic behind this argument.

If you are adamant that an abortion is NOT “killing” another human life, a fetus is NOT connected to your body (but an entirely separate being in itself) and a fetus feels absolutely NO pain, what would there be to “feel bad” about?

There is a Planned Parenthood clinic across the street from the roxbury Safeway. PP does FAR more than just abortions – their mission is quite the opposite — it’s PLANNED parenthood, and it makes me cringe that someone would call it an abortion clinic. I would venture to guess that most folks are going to the clinic for other reasons — specifically access to low cost birth contol. I am all for free speech, but i wonder how many women, if any, who want to go to PP for birth control are steered away because of a protest — and then end up there anyway for the other reason? I have seen protestors there – they sit quietly on the other side of the street (on the safeway side) in chairs with their signs. Which provides me a great chance to talk to my daughters about 1) freedom of speech (even when we don’t agree) and 2) how women have fought over time for basic rights – including the right to make choices about their own bodies, and that there are people in this day in age who STILL want to take that right away.

LGB, I was pointing out if you’re going to be so adamant about saving the life of a group of newly formed cells, why not be adamant in saving the lives of everything that is…alive? My post was elaborating on yours, since your opinions are abrasive and vague. I was not reflecting my own philosphies in what I was asking or telling you hence me asking you a question or two.

A life is a life, anything further is apples, oranges and personal view-point.

And I couldn’t conciously join PETA, I love meat too much. :]

    >…in addition 70% of this 60% stated that they would NEVER have an abortion again.

And only 50% of “marriages” actually work, so should we take away people’s right to get married? People make choices every day. Some you stand by, some you regret. That will never change. It’s easy to “regret” a choice when you never had to deal with the reprecussions of the opposite deciosn. Anything can look rosey in hindsight.

My feeling is – you live your life and let me live mine. Old Republican white men will NOT control my body, my religion, or my very personal choices. And I am really hoping to have a baby someday!

JenV..I am not trying to make you feel bad. If you feel fine about your choices…so be it. Everybody else states their opinion and then people line up to pat them on the back.

I just have a different opinion on the matter. I stated “IMO” from the get go.

(not trying to threadjack, just referring back to a side comment) Zenguy, I know this was many comments back, but I did want to follow up because it sounded like you might have some information I wanted regarding the Voltaire quote. I found the same references you listed when I Googled, but because none of them lists a specific work, I’m aware they may be misattributions. Neither Oxford Quotations, nor Britannica, nor Roget’s list this under their Voltaire quotes, and those resources usually do their homework. What I’d like, if you know it, is where in Voltaire’s work I can find that line–translated or not. Do you know? TIA

good for you, LBG. Don’t have one then. But don’t use your emotionally charged WORDS to try to make us all feel badly about your choice. No one is going to have their minds changed here, as some people pointed out. But by all means, people, beat this into the ground if you want. I for one am off this discussion 100% – maybe I’ll go donate some more $$ to Planned Parenthood!

“You can choose to be part of the solution or you can choose to be part of the problem..” – JoB

How can I choose to be a part of the solution when I’m not completely educated or informed of what the problem is? I’m, at least, willing to admit that I have not educated myself on this issue enough to participate in the protest.

You can try and turn that into something negative about me personally, but I think it is the commendable choice to make.

Did you read all his books, JoB?

    Thanks JT and Jenny.

I have to say that I respect New Resident’s position on it – I would find it hard to protest something when I didn’t have personal knowledge of it. While reading the excerpts of this man’s book here and elsewhere, it certainly sounds like something worthy of protest. However, I’m sure you could also pull the right excerpts out of the book and make it look like the most loving, wonderful act on earth. (Note: I am NOT saying anyone manipulated this information posted here or has a particular agenda; I’m speaking generally.) But if I were protesting it and someone asked my opinion on something in the book, and I had to admit I hadn’t read any of it, I’d come off looking like an idiot. Being informed is important for all of us in any situation, especially when we’re speaking up about it.

My horse is at this barn, and I believe much of the manure has been composting on the bottom of the pile for quite some time. I took a small bag of it a few years ago and it was like gold.

Caduceus…are you actually comparing human life to bugs on the ground? If so, have fun with that. You should rush out and get a PETA membership right away.

You are wrong about the cells. Sorry. As soon as conception occurs, the BABY has it’s own life print(DNA). Again, misinformation.

You can choose to call it an EMBRYO or a FETUS if that helps you sleep at night. To me, it is a new life not an appendage..and that life is destroyed by an abortion.

Caduceus…I believe I said that men have a part in it if they are the established father…I think that was clear. It is still a personal choice between him and the woman he impregnated.

You, as a male, have no say in the choices I make with my body in general, but specifically about reproductive rights unless you are the one participating. And if you are participating, with anyone, I certainly hope you’re not leaving the decision of birth control up to your partner. It should go without saying that it should be foremost in your mind unless you are planning a child with your partner…agreed?

Cad – I agree. I don’t feel that it is fair to tell a man that he should not contribute to the discussion. All viewpoints are interesting to me.

GHO – I agree, also, that most of our minds are already made up on this issue. I find discussion, though, very fulfilling. I think members on this forum can choose to have an adult conversation about this delicate topic and others will choose to resort to insulting and nastiness.

Lastly, I always learn something new (whether it be what another member posts, or through research of my own in supporting my own opinion) when I participate in discussion here (most the time). So, I guess I’m being a little selfish by participating in this discussion.

Nothing anybody says will change any minds here.

This is one of those subjects that people will never come to an understanding about. I know that if I choose to have an abortion I couldn’t live with myself and would in any situation LOVE being a mom and things would work out fine. Leaving the politics out, that’s what it boils down to for me.

We get so fixated on these things that we lose perspective on the other stuff in life and in our world.

When using horse manure for compost it is important to let it compost completely as the use of chemical wormers remain in the manure. Some of the dewormers (e.g. Ivermectin) are quite nasty and can even prevent composting and kill off nematodes and red-worms for a while before they break down. However, once completely composted it is wonderful and is one of the only manures that will compost alone without additives.
