No car key, but thanks for asking that because it turns out they are our housekeepers – all house keys and no car. Your question got me thinking.

Halloween horrors started for me yesterday when I dropped my wedding ring in the leaves directly underneath the heritage tree at Hiawatha park…thought I would post here on the off chance that it turns up. Gold ring with unique insignia on the inside. Please please please message me if you happen upon it when frolicking in the fall leaves. Thanks

To Apply: Please email a resume and cover letter to hr@launchindustries.biz.

Launch Industries is hiring a Senior HR Consultant & Project Manager to become the HR department for small businesses and nonprofits that do not have one. Our clients run 8 to 50 people, and many of them employ people in more than one state. They have an owner or an executive director, no HR staff, and real employment-law exposure that nobody is watching.

You carry a portfolio of assigned client accounts and you are the named HR partner for every one of them. You are not an advisor who sends a memo. You are the person who writes the handbook, stands up the payroll system, sits in the termination meeting, and picks up the phone when the state sends a notice.

You also help bring the next clients in the door. You join discovery calls, scope the work, build the quote, follow up, and close the account.
This is a hybrid role based in Seattle and in-person work is required. You must already live in the Seattle area and be able to work on site and travel to client locations.
Out-of-state candidates will not be considered, and this role cannot be performed remotely or from outside Washington State. Please do not apply if you are not currently local or are seeking a remote position.

The pay is $35.00 per hour for 30 to 40 hours per week. Benefits include up to $300 per month toward individual health insurance premiums (ICHRA), free 24/7 telehealth and EAP, accrual-based paid time off, paid Washington sick leave, nine paid company holidays plus a paid holiday for your birthday, a 401(k) with up to 4% company match, bereavement leave, a charitable donation match up to $1,000 a year, and funding for role-related training and certifications.

This role is not a fit if you want a narrow specialty, you need an established playbook before you can start, or you would rather send an opinion than own the outcome. On a Tuesday you might scope a new account, configure a Gusto implementation, and sit in a separation meeting.

Launch Industries LLC is an equal opportunity employer. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected class.

    Responsibilities
Business Development & Closing New Accounts
Join discovery calls with prospective clients and diagnose what they actually need
Scope and size engagements by headcount and complexity, and build the Managed HR and Managed Payroll quote, sometimes bundled with bookkeeping into a single proposal
Follow up on open quotes until you have a real answer, and close the account
Convert participants from our free technical assistance programs into paying direct clients as their program hours wind down
Spot when an existing client is ready for an additional service and make the case
Teach Launch & Learn sessions on handbooks, PTO policy, job descriptions, orientations, and the small business HR audit. These sessions are how a meaningful share of our clients find us.

Managing a Portfolio of Assigned Clients
Serve as the named HR partner for multiple assigned client accounts at once
Run recurring monthly HR check-ins, own the open items list for each account, and keep every client moving
Build the year-end HR compliance and benefits renewal calendar for each client and walk them through it
Stand up the client’s HR infrastructure: dedicated HR email, correct system permissions, clean employee files
Track your time accurately to the client, because it drives billing

    Handbooks & Policy
Write and rewrite employee handbooks from scratch or from documents five years out of date
Draft the specifics: holiday pay caps, mileage reimbursement at the IRS rate, company vehicle policies that separate employee liability for tickets from employer liability for repairs, training benefits, inclement weather and evacuation procedures
Build custom policies where a template will not do, including jurisdiction-specific leave and sick time, and write the employee communication that goes with the change
Document onboarding, offboarding, and recurring operational processes

    Gusto Payroll Setup & Benefits
Implement Gusto for new clients end to end: company setup, employee and contractor data migration, pay schedules, state tax agency registration, garnishment configuration, and connecting payroll to the client’s accounting system
Train the client’s staff to run their own payroll with confidence, and troubleshoot when something breaks
When something goes wrong, own it: call the employee, explain the fix, and tell the owner or executive director what happened
Manage open enrollment and benefits renewals, coordinate medical, ICHRA, and Medicare brokers, and explain the difference between an HSA and an FSA in language a client can actually use

    Employee Relations & Separations
Coach owners, executive directors, and boards through performance problems, corrective action, investigations, and accommodations
Run separation meetings and produce documentation that holds up
Know the edge of your competence and route genuine legal questions to outside counsel instead of guessing

    Compensation & Talent
Run salary survey benchmarking across a client job ladder and deliver the comparison
Write job descriptions, build interview guides, screen and interview candidates, and run new hire orientations

    Compliance
Multi-state compliance. Washington is home base, and our clients employ people across a growing number of states, so you need to be able to work in an unfamiliar jurisdiction and get it right.
Paid Sick Leave Act, PFML, wage and hour, worker classification, leave entitlements, recordkeeping, and state registration
Audit client practices and flag exposure before it becomes a claim

    Job Requirements
5+ years of hands-on HR generalist work, including supporting more than one employer at a time. Consulting, fractional HR, PEO, agency, or an in-house role where you were the entire department.
Demonstrated ability to manage several client accounts at once without anything falling through
Comfort with business development. You can sit in a discovery call, scope the work, build the quote, follow up, and ask for the sale without flinching.
Working command of federal employment law and multi-state compliance. Strong Washington State knowledge, and the research habits to come up to speed on any state a client hires in.
Handbook authorship you can show us. A writing sample is part of the interview.
Hands-on experience implementing or administering a full-service payroll platform, including company setup, state tax registration, and garnishments
You have personally run a termination meeting and written the documentation around it
Plain, clear written English. Most of what you produce is a document a business owner has to read once and act on.
Comfort being the only HR person in the room with a founder, an executive director, or a board
Self-managing. Your clients are yours, your calendar is yours, and your time is tracked accurately because it drives billing.
You currently live in the Seattle area and can work in person on a hybrid schedule. This is a hard requirement. Out-of-state candidates and remote-only applicants will not be considered.

    Technical Skills
Gusto strongly preferred, especially new-company implementation, or comparable full-service payroll and benefits platform
    Google Workspace
Comfort learning a CRM, a time-tracking system, and an e-signature platform and using them consistently
Willingness to work with AI. We use Claude and other AI tools behind the scenes to draft policy language, research multi-state requirements, summarize meetings, and cut the busywork out of client deliverables. You do not need to be technical, but you do need to be curious about these tools and comfortable reviewing and correcting AI-assisted work before it reaches a client.

    Preferred Skills
    SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR
Nonprofit HR, including board dynamics, grant-funded positions, and senior-services organizations
Deep multi-state compliance experience across several jurisdictions
    Compensation benchmarking
Benefits brokerage coordination, ICHRA, and HSA administration
Comfort teaching a room of small business owners and presenting to prospects

    Time Commitment
Full-time, 30 to 40 hours per week. Hybrid, with required in-person work in Seattle and occasional travel to client sites in the Puget Sound region. Standard business hours, with occasional early or late meetings when a client separation, a go-live, or a prospect’s schedule requires it.

    About Launch Industries
Launch Industries operates at the intersection of the public sector, mission-driven nonprofits, and purpose-driven small businesses. We provide everything from HR and compliance advisory to bookkeeping, branding, and licensing. Much of our work is funded through public technical assistance programs, allowing us to deliver high-value consulting to small business owners who otherwise couldn’t afford it. We are a close-knit, resourceful team of problem-solvers who bring an energetic “Founder Mindset” to work every day—and we care deeply about building workplaces that foster connection, equity, and joy.

    The Role
Small business owners come to Launch when they are stuck on something critical: a license, a contract, a set of books, or a strategic plan. But getting a client from “interested” to fully onboarded takes dozens of clear, reliable steps. This role owns that journey.

As our Client Services Coordinator & Account Executive, you will own everything that happens between a prospective client saying “yes” and ensuring they are stable and thriving 60 days in. You are the operational engine behind client intake, onboarding, scheduling, contracts, and business licensing queues.

Note: This is a high-ownership coordination and workflow role, not a business consulting position. You are the person making sure our clients are supported seamlessly so our consulting team can do what they do best!

    Location Spotlight: West Seattle
This is an in-person, on-site role based out of our office in the heart of West Seattle. You’ll love coming to work here—our office is in a vibrant, walkable neighborhood packed with fantastic local cafes, coffee shops, bakeries, restaurants, and independent shops. It’s the perfect setting for grabbing morning espresso, walking to lunch with teammates, or running a quick errand during your break.

    What You’ll Do
    Business Development & Account Growth
Keep the pipeline full and moving
    Work referral and partner relationships
Staff our table at community outreach events, talking with small business owners about our programs and collecting leads
Attend networking events (chambers, business associations, local meetups) to build relationships and bring new inquiries back to the pipeline
Follow up on open opportunities until you have a real answer
Spot when an existing client is ready for the next service and bring the right consultant in

    Intake & Eligibility Screening
Welcome incoming inquiries and explain our programs
Conduct eligibility screenings for our technical assistance programs
Route business owners to the right consultant or resource, and redirect the ones we cannot serve

    Client Onboarding
Guide new clients through a consistent, seamless onboarding sequence
Send intake forms, confirm they come back, and open the client file
Lead New Client Orientation meetings and make warm handoffs to the consulting team

    Contracts & Agreements
Issue client contracts and follow up on outstanding signatures
Ensure fully executed agreements are accurately filed

Business Licensing & Registered Agent Support
Tag team with our Registered Agent Services Manager on the daily licensing queue, a source of referrals for our direct consulting clients
Handle new business registrations, renewals, trade name filings, and city licensing questions
A 15 to 30 minute daily routine that keeps clients in good standing

    Scheduling & Events
Coordinate client meetings and group orientations
Run the logistics for our Launch & Learn workshops and Service Seminars
Keep consultant calendars organized and client slots filled

    Client Care & Check-ins
Run a regular check-in calendar for active clients
    Answer simple operational questions directly
Route complex or stalled accounts to leadership

    Data Hygiene & CRM Management
Keep client records up to date across our software ecosystem
Make sure the whole team works from a single, reliable picture

    What We’re Looking For
Experience: 5+ years in a coordination, client services, account support, or office management role where you owned a process end-to-end (not just a task list).
Small Business Savvy: Direct experience working at, running, or serving small businesses (under 50 employees). You understand what a small business owner’s day actually looks like!
Caseload & Queue Management: Demonstrated success managing daily queues or deadlines where attention to detail is critical.
Great Communicator: Comfortable writing warm, professional, and clear client emails independently. Comfortable talking with new and existing clients a lot.
Tech-Comfortable: Quick to learn SaaS tools. We regularly use AI, our own SaaS ecosystem, project management tools like ClickUp, Harvest time tracking, Gusto, and Google Workspace.
On-Site Availability: Able to work full-time in person at our West Seattle office, Monday through Friday 9am-5pm.
Flexible Schedule: Comfortable tabling at community events and networking with strangers, including occasional evening or weekend events

Preferred (but not required): Experience with WA state/city business licensing, grant/publicly funded program support, or professional service environments. No college degree required—if you’ve successfully run the front and back office of a small company and loved it, we want to talk to you!

Why You’ll Love Working Here (Benefits & Perks)
We believe in supporting our team with great benefits, transparency, and a workplace that fosters joy.

Competitive Pay: $30.00 – $35.00/hour (paid weekly/bi-weekly, with overtime eligibility for hours over 40).
Commission: 5% commission on first-year services from new leads that come from outreach/networking events. Commission does not apply to leads who enter our technical assistance programs.
Health & Wellness Support: Up to $300/month pre-tax reimbursement toward individual health insurance premiums (ICHRA).
Free 24/7 Telehealth & EAP: Immediate, 100% free access to no-copay virtual medical care, mental health counseling, work-life services, and pet telehealth.
Generous Paid Time Off: Accrual-based PTO (up to 120 hours carryover)
Paid Holidays & Birthday Off: 9 paid company holidays per year, plus a dedicated paid personal holiday for your birthday! Unused holiday hours can also convert to floating holidays.
Retirement Savings: 401(k) plan with up to 4% dollar-for-dollar company matching (100% match on first 3%, 50% match on next 2%).
Compassionate Bereavement Leave: Up to 1 week (including 24 paid hours) for immediate family loss, plus up to 3 days (8 hours paid) for companion animals.
Charitable Match Program: Dollar-for-dollar match on eligible nonprofit donations up to $1,000 annually.
Professional Development: Financial support and funding for role-related training, courses, and certifications.

Are you an experienced barista who thinks saying “hi” to your regulars is the best part of the job? Do you have the confidence to work solo on quiet mornings, and also manage a busy counter with your coworkers during weekend peak hours? If you have a knack for making people feel at home the second they walk in, and the confidence to run a shift like it’s yours – we want to hear from you.

    What you’ll earn
    – Base: $22.04/hr
    – Tips: typically $6 – $12/hr, based on real shift averages (not a guarantee every shift, but it’s what our team actually brings home)
    Total: usually $28 – $34/hr

What you’ll get, beyond the paycheck
    – 1 week of training, learning the store from the person who built it, not from a binder
    – A hands-on session with our specialty coffee roaster, so you understand our espresso machine and what makes a cup worth drinking
    – Room to grow. We’re a small, growing neighborhood business, and we’d rather promote from within than hire from outside. That said, we’re upfront: trust gets built over time, not handed out on day one. Show us you’ve got it, and there’s more coming.

    What the job actually is
This isn’t a stand-behind-the-counter gig. You’re running the whole store on your shift: coffee, deli, ice cream, beer & wine, grocery. That means giving your crew clear direction, not just pitching in alongside them. When a call needs to be made in the moment, whether it’s how to handle a customer, how to divide up the work when it’s slammed, or what to prioritize when it’s slow, that call is yours to make. Your manager has your back, but you’re not waiting on someone else’s permission to do right by a customer or the team in front of you.

When it’s slammed, you’re jumping on sandwiches or scooping ice cream alongside the crew. When it’s quiet, you’re the one restocking shelves, entering inventory into Square, checking in a delivery, and keeping the store looking like somewhere you’d bring your own family. Some hours fly, some hours are slow and full of side work. We need someone who’s good with both.

You’ll be a great fit if you:
    – Like people, genuinely, and it shows without effort
    – Notice what needs doing and just do it, instead of waiting to be asked
    – Are comfortable giving direction to your team and making the call when something needs deciding
    – Want a role that can grow, and are willing to put in the work to earn that
    – Don’t mind moving around the whole store instead of camping at one station
    – Can roll with a pace that changes hour to hour

    Probably not for you if:
    – You want to stand in one spot for your whole shift
    – You’d rather be told exactly what to do than figure it out yourself
    – You need every day to look exactly the same

To apply: Send your resume to hello@highlandparkcornerstore.com – if it looks like a fit, we’ll reach out after October 20th to set up an interview.

    Must be 21+.

I have a 20 ft storage unit full of tools. Many are automotive. I have some aviation related tools.
I have sharpening tools for sharpening nail clippers, scissors, beauty shears, etc.
    I have a $700 automotive diagnostic scanner.
I have a full complete set of mens Callaway golf clubs.
I have several boxes of new nails left over from when I built a house 20 years ago. I have the nail gun for them as well.
I have more than can be listed here. I need to get this sold so my wife will not have to deal with it when I am gone. I am not putting a price on anything. Just make an offer.
I would really prefer if someone could take everything as a complete unit.
The unit is located at the south end of White Center.

For those experiencing the Hum, 2026 edition, does it have a quavering sound? I live above Alki and several years ago I heard an earlier version of the hum that sounded reminiscent of a “beat frequency” where two rotary motors are running at nearly the same rotational speed and the overlapping sound waves vary and cancel each other causing a resultant beat noise. I haven’t heard this version; at the time I reckoned a shallow inversion layer above West Seattle caused it to bounce over the hill from the Duwamish corridor.
