The Seattle Animal Shelter adopts out all adoptable animals to new homes regardless of breed or feral nature. There are no time or space limits for animals in the shelter’s care. We regularly adopt out, reunite with family or send to rescue over 90%* of the pets that come through our doors. Pets that are determined to be a health or safety risk to humans or other pets will not be placed for adoption. Additionally, pets that are unable to be helped by reasonable veterinary care may also not be placed for adoption.
While the Seattle Animal Shelter does not consider itself a “no kill” shelter, our save rate falls within the recommendation of the “No Kill Nation” advocacy organization.
* “Save Rate” calculation from the first 6 months of 2012. Calculation excludes owner requested euthanasia of terminally-ill animals.

‘It just keeps getting better,’ exclaims Teri Ensley, Furry Faces Leader, ‘Regional Animal Services of King County has confirmed that they will be onsite with adoptable dogs, cats and kittens. Tim Scallon, our official F3 musician, is gracing our senses with his guitar and vocals. Plus, it’s another opportunity for folks to get a new pet ID tag for their dog or cat as we will have our pet engraving machine and all warmed up! Remember, Tag You Pet…It Ain’t Graffiti!

OK, so the way things are now, this nice lady comes by my house every day and puts the mail in my mailbox, right outside my door. But with the NEW! IMPROVED! kootchman plan, all I’d have to do to get my mail is get in the car and go a mile down the road to the private ($$$) mailbox company.
Thanks for bright idea, kootch. I promise you we’ll give it all the consideration it deserves.

The weekend got crazy busy and I don’t want to rush back to do a triathlon.

Adoptions are going well–last weekend 26 cats and kittens were found forever homes! During the month of July 138 cats and kittens found loving homes!
Let’s keep this phenomenal trend going! Kitty Harbor will be open 12 – 6 pm, both Saturday and Sunday for your meet ‘n’ greet pleasures. Approx. 16 adults and 40 kittens are just waiting to charm you.

These cats and kittens come from rescue situations. Approximately:
• 1/3 come from King, Pierce and Snohomish Shelters (off of death row)
• 1/3 come from Kitty Harbor’s own rescue work in our local area
• 1/3 come from Eastern Washington where the Kill Rate is 70% – 90%, depending on the area/County.
‘Save nine lives’–adopt a cat!
I am sick of all the traffic revisions/changes to our roads that provide no incentive to carpoolers. Why not have them as HOV/Carpool/Bus lanes? A petition was started to do just that.

Changing our city’s bus-only lanes into more flexible bus/carpool/HOV lanes will incentivize drivers to reduce energy consumption and will lighten congestion in high-traffic areas – especially where bus-only lanes receive light use and where Seattle has provided no other incentive for individuals for whom riding a bus is not an option. A strategy whereby our city prioritizes bus ridership may sound appealing when spun as a catalyst for sustainable behavior, but our recent changes ignore the reality of Seattle traffic at the expense of our citizens’ sanity and our local economy. Join us in making your voice heard!
